  1. I seem to live in a bit of a no mans land when it comes to Aspen! The 3 nearest biggish towns to me are Wrexham, Oswestry and Shrewsbury and there's no stockists.
  2. Me too, I always expect to be struck down in flames every time I step through the doors of a church lol
  3. You're right there, they are playing with a calm confidence at the moment. They definitely have the potential to get into the top 3 in the world rankings
  4. I was starting to get a bit worried, but they pulled it out of the bag!
  5. Awesome work!
  6. I did see they did deliver direct but couldn't see a delivery cost? I'll have to check it out, thanks Newtown is a bit far from me 45/50miles one way. I think i did see a supplier at Llay which is between Wrexham and Chester, which is more doable. I'll have to go back to the stockist list/map and ring around
  7. Hi, I thought I'd give Aspen a go as it seemed ideal for someone like me who isn't a regular chainsaw user. Thought it would be easier to just put the saw back in the shed and be able to leave it fueled up for a few weeks at a time. So I went on the Aspen site to find my nearest stockist, which was TFM in Shropshire. I was planning on going to pick some up tomorrow but I called them this afternoon just to check the price and that they had some in stock. The lad I spoke to had no idea what Aspen was! He double checked with another bloke and I overheard him say "oh we thought about getting it but decided not to" So seems like the stockist list needs updating? Lucky I did call else I would of made a 50+ mile round trip for nothing.
  8. I've just got that book to read too! I was told that ash regrows better if you leave a higher stump.
  9. I was talking to a guy recently who was brought up in Bristol and used to play a bit of snooker in his youth. He told me he entered a tournament at his local club when he was 16 and ended up playing an 8 year old boy called Judd Trump. The 8yr old won! and next round Judd played a 19yr old and beat him too!! lol
  10. Thanks for the link! Thats seems a cleaner and less labour intensive way! I have seen a nice shiny 7lb Elwell axe in a local junk shop, but its been cleaned up too well because the stamp isn't 100% readable anymore, Hence the £25 price tag.....I'm still tempted though! lol
  11. Thing is, if I make it too shiny,I won't want to get it dirty again!
  12. I've just seen a sanding and polishing kit for angle grinders for a tenner, so will give that a go. I've also got a scythe and draw knife that might get a clean up too
  13. I recently came across my old axe/hatchet in the shed, that I was given to me when I was a kid by my dad to keep me out of his way when he was busy lol Anyway when I was checking it over I realised it's an Elwell! SoI've decided I'm going to rehandle it and give the head a good clean up. Just wondered if anyone has got any tips on cleaning up an axe head, or is it just a matter of plenty of elbow grease with wire wool and some wet and dry? Cheers
  14. Thats on my doorstep,I'll keep my eyes open!
  15. When I left school in the early 90s there was no training schemes widely available for school leavers but my brother and sister who finished school in the late 80s both went into YTS. My other halfs son is currently at college full time and in his first year recieved £30 a week for doing a level 1 NVQ, Now he has gone to another college to do level 2/3 NVQs and now gets £50 a week. Seems like I got a raw deal when I left school! lol
  16. Good find!
  17. Thanks for the replies guys, Yeah I won't be spraying now,I'll be waiting until I see signs of regrowth in the spring then give it a good dose then.
  18. Hi guys, I've got a query over using Glyphosate, I'm pretty sure I know the answer but just want confirmation. I've just cleared approx 100M2 of garden of a very aggressive suckering Prunus "Victoria" but was asked to leave a "row" of suckers along one side as a border and for privacy. When I get chance I was going to spray the area with Glyphosate to kill off the mass of ivy left covering the ground and the small stumps that were too established to dig up with ease. Am I right in thinking that when i spray the remaining stumps that the Glyphosate will travel through the root system and kill off the suckers left, in time? Cheers
  19. I don't know if this helps anyone? NetRegs - Waste Directory - Directory home
  20. haha I know what you mean! I've got these loppers for reducing about 150 yards of hedge at home, mainly hawthorn with some holly and blackthorn mixed in (There's gonna be blood spilt! lol) Due to a ditch on one side and steep 8ft bank the other, petrol power is out of the equation for me lol
  21. Does anyone use or has used the EasyKut ratchet, telescopic lopping shears? I bought a pair today because they did look well built and because of the ratchet system I though they would be better for my old man to use since they are supposed to take less effort to cut with. Normally I research a bit before I buy something but bought them on a whim because they looked the part lol Just wondering if they are likely to last,or they are going to go the same way as the last 3 pairs of loppers the old man has broke! lol
  22. The course is at Green Wood Centre near Ironbridge so about an hour-ish away from me. I think thats the one I will go for, as long as I can get those dates off work!
  23. I drink the Tesco brand Vx? 1 litre bottles,I've been known to neck 2 bottles and still fall asleep,so not sure it works lol
  24. Thanks for the reply Rover, I have been checking out the NHLS site out for training local to me but nothing has come up as yet. I'm not a total novice as such, I have helped my grandad and dad laying hedges in my younger days. I do love being outdoors, my first job was working on a large scale forest tree nursery, growing trrees from seed and harvesting by the million every winter to go for forest plantations and hedges. The tutor for the 5 day course is a guy called Karl Leibscher, he seems well respected in the hedge laying world and advertises that he does work on Prince Charles Highgrove estate. So I think thats the one I'm going to try to get onto if nothing come up with the NHLS in the next couple of weeks.
  25. Hi, I was just wondering if anyone had any knowledge on different hedge laying qualifications? I've been looking around for a short course to attend over the winter. So far I have found 2 courses relatively local to me, one is a level 2 NCFE course over 3 days priced at £75 and a level 2 OCN course over 5 days priced at £400. What would the major difference between these 2 courses be? (apart from £325!) Thanks
