  1. Very noble of you Bren and the VOWBF is a worthy cause indeed. Your generosity has been an inspiration to me, and I have decided to double the prize fund to TWO pieces of charcoal!! One lump going to the VOWBF and the second to a new initiative of which I am the figurehead, the Throttling Wizards- Idiots Training Scheme. I trust that you approve.
  2. I shall dispatch your charcoal without delay via carrier tortoise. Will be with you well before the summer. One lump or two? And you can keep the tortoise.
  3. Not sure Bren. I'm not too hot on my plant ID. These came up after removing the understory in a cpt. but leaving the canopy. An eagle eyed visitor to the wood recently spotted the ancient woodland indicator pictured below. Free piece of charcoal to the first with a correct identification!
  4. It's an Antonio Carraro 'alpine tractor', only 27hp but a good little tug, especially as it now has agricultural tyres on. It is very low ground pressure so not too damaging on the ancient woodland soils. As with a lot of these type of tractors you can reverse the positions of the seat and the steering console and drive facing backwards, good for loader and flail work.
  5. Thanks Shavey, kind words indeed. I'm sure all old woodlands have got many tales to tell!
  6. No need to apologise, I'm pretty good a derailing my own threads:001_rolleyes: Those pictures are brilliant! That 'tree house tree' is amazing.
  7. Well, that game didn't last very long did it! Well done Mr Wood Wasp:thumbup:
  8. That's one of the WW2 structures that came to light during the ride widening. I believe it was the bomb arming shed. Here it is in use.
  9. I can't remember the make of the forwarder, it belongs to Treewood Harvesting. I think it is quite an old one but well maintained.
  10. Just when you thought it was safe...
  11. Would be interested to hear how you get on, I'm looking to streamline the production process.
  12. Does the sawbench produce a wide enough slit for good airflow?
  13. Hi hedgesparrow, Thanks for the message, plenty of good ideas in there. Unfortunately it is not terribly woody around these parts so there is no coppice group as such and few people doing what I do apart from the Wildlife Trust and Woodland Trust sites which don't have to be so concerned with financial viability. Have done a fair bit of faggotting😊 and it is a good earner, although it conflicts with my cutting time and I tend to need the brash for protecting the stools. I would like to get into other woodland products like the ones you suggest. I've just been majoring on the firewood and charcoal so far.
  14. Happy new year all! I've seen rubbish ones in a garden centre near me for £16. Mine retail for £9.95 through a farm shop. Re. firelighters, I use 'Flamers' wood wool ones and stick it just below the top:thumbup:
  15. That sounds great, then there'll be enough people to move the sticks back where they came from again. Serious production:thumbup: Have a great celebration too Paul and look forward to meeting you in the Spring:thumbup:
