Hey Steve, was busy last night but not doing a great deal today so will make a few post's and will include the previous post i made of adding hardware such as lowering devices and pulleys,butt tieing tip tieing, and balancing with and without the use of other hardware, and/or slings also i may do a piece on what cuts to use where if i get a chance. got a couple of jobs to look at first so watch this space.....

my Helmet stinks and i wouldn't have it no other way.... i try buy a hygiene ear muff kit at least once a year and i'm already on my second lot of padding in my stein......so i guess you could say its kept in good condition....

Take SRT for example mate, that would be 1:1 then you would have a climbing system, then that would be a 2:1 adding 2 pulleys into a system makes 3 moving legs into the system creating the 3:1 hope this is more explanatory than it looks to me....

you count the legs of line (rope) mate, there are 2 pulleys which create a 3 legs at the moving block there for making it 3:1..... Great post Rupe and very accurate......

Rigging Hitches and knots...... I'm quite surprised that nobody has mentioned this yet but thought i would do a small piece on it and it will be very small. Bob that sound's quite a scary moment, did the groundies walk away from the rigging line? as i've already stated Communication is Key! Thanks Paul, i Intend to keep it up..... you wil see plenty of my rigging set ups soon, and hopefully others to... Glad you like the Thread Ed, 3 strand is not really practical anymore but there's no saying you can't use it in some applications a cheap tag line for 1 or lowering small pieces, 3 strand has a lot of stretch which can compromise some rigging scenarios.... I like to use the rigging plate as it keeps a system neat, i don't always use all three slings at once and i do sometimes just use a bowline and 1 sling. then set up another sling as the branch is being sorted on the floor, this way adds speed to the work....

I really didn't mean it as a back up, i meant as you describe .....sorry:blushing: as for the cary falling thing i thought is was because he let the system come under him causing to much slack and no friction? Great post onlab

i'm very happy to have you aboard Bob and thank you for the input, my next piece will be about managing friction with the use of devices and the introduction of pulleys...... post as you like mate if it helps me out you more than welcome to highjack it. its been a manic couple of days since this thread has been up and running and i'm surprised at the amount of support i'm getting from guys like yourself. Nick Pott, (arbjobsnick) has been great...... and along with others the support and advice is second to none.....Thank you. just as long as the thread is doing its job then i'm happy. Adam

thats a cracking diagram mate.... yes in tag lines you could use the 3:1 ratio not only because the groundy might trip up, but keep the line taught at all time may be beneficial to miss targets. but again its using hardware which later on in the thread we will get into, just tring to cover the basic's first but will use this picture again later mate, nice one for the input.........

if you read my post again mate you will see i said to add friction to the system.... if using the hitch purely on its own then pulling down to release the hitch without any friction to help aid it grab again then the hitch may not grab and we all know what happens then..... this also can happen with the wrench attached as carry gibson fount out when he never kept the system taught.... using a hitch on its own srt is dangerous DON'T try it...... sorry if it sounds abit abrupt simon.....

think you just answered your own question there mate its the added friction in Ddrt that make the hitch grip all the time. SRT there is no movement in the rope there for friction is needed else where hence the need for back up. climbing around the tree SRT using a hitch, has only been made possible with the wrench. this acts as the friction replacement.

the hitch would be fine, its the fact that if it did not grip you have no back up mate. using any srt system requires a back up, like the rope wrench... or a belay device would work grigri something similar.....

Haha woooaaahh there boy! we only just started don't want to complicate things just yet with speedlines, will be a good talk on that though and some video footage.....thanks on the picture front i was wondering if they were clear enough though? Will if you have something to add that will be on any help to anyone then fire away mate, i've just read through the whole thread again just to refresh myself so i can get the next episode together.....

the use of tag lines.... if there is a problem finding a suitable redirect and an extra groundsman is on site then with out adding any hardware just another rope, you can help guide your limb away from any obstacles..... here i am demonstrating just how easy it is to lower and pull away from the base of the tree using just 2 ropes.

firstly is the rope new or old? if its been used do you know how its been treated do you know what kind of life its had where its been stored? if its new what Rope is it? 18mm will be a bit over the top for small tree's but then it depends what you call small! large Isc 19mm pulley will set you back about £100 and the large Dmm will set you back about £230, depends what you want to spend really.
