  1. CLH Trailers in South West Wales, speak to Chris, he'll make you anything you want and is cheap compared to the mainstream brands. You can specify any details you want and choose wheel/tyre size, height of tailgate etc within reason. His stuff is all hand made, properly welded and galvanized. Built like tanks mate! Another good one over my way (Worcestershire) is Hazlewood Trailers, ask for Stuart. Not as cheap as CLH but very good quality, and again you can customise it of needs be. Good luck!
  2. Good call. You may already know, but Makita saws are made in Germany by Dolmar (Fomerly Dolmar Sachs) who Makita bought out. I know a couple of the guys on here sell imported Dolmars (Orange rather than quirky blue) if you prefer, and report they are slightly 'better' in some ways than their Makita equivalent, due to some carburettor differences or something. I'm sure to a noob like us we'd struggle to perceive any differnce if blindfolded (not recommended). Going from an MS 181 I'm sure you'll feel like a chainsaw God using a DCS 5121! You're going from 31.8cc to 50cc and 2hp to 3.3hp. That means you currently have only 64% of the engine and 60% of the power of the DCS5121 currently. I think you'll notice a difference even before it's run in properly.
  3. Haha, thanks. See, even us noobs have our uses on Arbtalk lol.
  4. Get the Makita 5121 for around £350 delivered then. I bet you'll love it, if you don't sell it on eBay once the 'Promo' stock is depleted for what you paid for it and buy a 60cc Husqvarna or Stihl. Simples.
  5. I'm going to vote for the Makita 5121. An absolute bargain. Augmented my 4301 with a little more firepower, came with a steel case as part of the 'Promo' deal and will probably last me a lifetime. I nearly went for a Husqvarna 365 X-Torque but at £540 for a casual user it seemed a bit extravagant. I'm a big fan of Makita, but having set my heart on a Stihl (due to good experiences with brushcutters) I was reticent to buy one, when first getting a chainsaw. Once I weighed up the spec sheets it became evident I'd bought a good tool for a fair price. I've had my 4301 for a good few years, and other than some issues with the recoil starter which I easily resolved, it's been a little trooper. The 5121 is the same, but more. I still hanker for a DCS9010 for no better reason than I like them. They look well made and 'old school'. Maybe I should buy one before they replace it with some new emissions friendly replacement? I wouldn't rule out other manufacturers either, such as Echo, Shindaiwa, Solo etc. Echo and Shindaiwa are Japanese and I can vouch for the Shindaiwa hedge trimmers. Solo are German and seem to be revered in the USA but unheard of generally in Britain. I'm not the best qualified person on saws on this forum by a country mile, but can offer my humble opinion based in your limited usage needs and current saw. Ultimately you will ignore the advice on this forum and buy what makes sense in your own mind, but at least we can serve up some offerings for consideration! Final word: No chinese unbranded off ebay, been there, done that.
  6. It's all good fun until you get struck by lightning or hit an overhead power cable. Give me tennis elbow over being burnt to a crisp any day!
  7. I see a disqualification coming on. Lol.
  8. What a lovely bed. Good to see something made by hand.
  9. I do hope so, because then wood will be cheaper again.
  10. Fabulous! Who makes that bench you're using?
  11. Lol @ your signature block. Love it! thanks jon:thumbup:
  12. Not a very helpful comment I'm afraid, but this is why I stopped buying Ryobi junk years ago. Took forever to start, then shook my nerves to death with nasty vibration. Ryobi must mean 'curse of uselessness' in some language, possibly Chinese.
  13. My guess. EGR problem. Exhaust Manifold Gasket Failure Turbo bearings worn Just some guesses.
  14. I'd just rather look at talk about chainsaws than watch so called 'celebrities' being annoying, like my other half enjoys.
  15. That's told me then, Bren. I can see why you were named Bren, since you seem to enjoy shooting holes in people! Joking aside. You're right. I will make a bigger effort to kit up and stay alive. Just need to slow down on the motorbikes and I'll be the perfect man!
  16. I must admit I was cutting some firewood yesterday with just jeans and husqvarna forestry helmet and gloves. I have a pair of Stihl Economy trousers and Hiax boots as well as Husqvarna gloves. How essential are the boots and gloves? Should I upgrade my trousers (and I would have worn them but couldn't locate them).
  17. Always best to make your own 'processed' meat products. The quality of meat used in the supermarket pork pies / scotch eggs etc isn't really fit for a dog. I bought a Santos meat mincer years ago and now make my own mince, burgers, meatballs, etc. Not tried sausages yet as I've not got the casings and a stuffer yet, but will get round to it. Reason why I stopped eating shop bought cack is a contractor I was working with years ago had done some work in the loft space of a large food factory who made amongst other things sausage meat for scotch eggs. They were working directly above the hopper which the 'meat' was being fed into along with lots of 'fillers' and additives. Anyway, his mate put his foot through the ceiling and sent a load of roofing board debris, rat droppings and other nasties flying down into the hopper. They rushed to the floor supervisor in a panic to tell him expecting him to stop the machine and have the hopper emptied. "Ah, don't worry about that, it'll all get ground up and nobody will be able to tell!"
  18. How do people find out that Doritos and Pringles make good firefighters?
  19. Honda - red body white fuel tank. At that price, not Honda. Trust me.
  20. Ok looks through my tired eyes to be a Chinese 'Loncin' type engine. Not necessarily a bad thing since you can always look out for an equivalent Honda engine on eBay so when it inevitable implodes you can replace it with a decent one. The rest will be a gamble, but nothing that can't be tightened up on delivery and checked regularly. Chinese crap has a habit of disassembling itself in my experience.
  21. Yes. Ring ding ding ding bang. I'll go and have a look.
