  1. Need bloody hard ground to carry that backactor(without getting laired) fitted to an otherwise very desirable loader tractor, much rather have a rougher rubber tracked digger in addition to the tractor loader, which would then be able to pull a trailer.
  2. I applaud that pragmatic approach by Ford in the US. Especially if a larger capacity alternator/battery/batteries is standard or can be specced as an option.
  3. Ah! Ha! Me specialist subject. I form a firebox of thinner section split conifer, picked from the box of sticks, around at least three sides of the stove, stuff the middle with paper, cardboard and perhaps some plastic packaging, then light and put another stick or two on top, leaving the door "on the snib" for extra draught until properly lit, this never fails, and gives a hot fire in about 10 to 15 mins.
  4. I imagine hiring in a local hedge cutting contractor to be the best/most cost effective solution to the hedge-cutting task, as to the other stuff, either a larger compact tractor or an older smaller traditional tractor, per other sage advice offered. mth
  5. J, In no way in the nature of a snippy comment, but what are the property taxes like? Since everything else appears to be disproportinately cheap property purchase and maintenance wise, I am aware of the significent taxes on earned income, and the costs of alcohol/eating out. And I presume the properties you feature are not near desirable urban centres, or what drives such low property prices. Best wishes, Marcus

I think I remember a Scottish Woodlands wheeze, where they got well paid to take tonnes and tonnes and tonnes of sewage cake or sludge away, and "utilized" it by burying in BIG DEEP trenches to fertilize the conifers that they were for planting. Or such was the story in the local community, who, again, from recall, put a stop to this scheme. It sounded more like a "I have a cunning plan, let's dig a hole and bury it" to me, but hey! What do I know. P.S. I do not recall how far they were drawing it, or how, away from the County road.
  8. Bugger that, a bolt on front wing is £1,181.00 +VAT. But a rear bumper is only £186.00 And the grill £177.00
  9. Need a return to the traditional multi generational household, where the grandparents looked after the grandchildren, while the parents worked to earn to pay for the heat and meat. And one heated space provided for multiple bodies, unlike today's fractured society where every difficult to please "strong independent person" expects to be able to keep(or more correctly, to be kept in), a dwelling for themselves only to live in, and heated to T shirt wearing levels of comfort.

I had figured that all the talk about cloning, is perhaps not relevant, since the DVLA would immediately(I hope?) pick up on a 2nd identical VIN, so clone the number plates to avoid speed camera fines, yes, fine, but those cloned number plates will most likely be affixed to an otherwise kosher DVLA registered vehicle, yes?

I figured the auctioneer wisley removed the VIN plate, to prevent "interested parties" from photographing or otherwise copying it while obstensibly viewing the vehicle with a claimed interest in bidding. After I wondered why he did simply not blank it over with tape. And then reaffixed the plate once the vehicle was sold. There has also been some soul searching about classic rare Ferraris, being resurrected from little more than the (presumably brass) chassis plate, like one that was fished out of an Alpine lake after many years immersion.

His VIN will not lead him to the throttle assembly gubbins as fitted to my rather rare RHD turbodiesel, (being only 1 of 30 sold in the UK, and the rest were near all car types except the few sold to Sussex Fire Brigade, which again were different in respect of payloads, extra long wheelbases, HD axles etc, my van being essentially the same running gear as the standard 5 door car type, except with kastenwagen=van bodywork ), which throttle assembly gubbins he wishes to mate to the electronic controlled IP on the OM606 transplant engine. He appears to be a bonafide long time contributor the the gwagen forum, and is re-engining an older vehicle(a very common occurance) and wishes to access particular MB part nos unique to the very few RHD turbodiesels, for which I understand, from my dealership experience, you do need to start with the matching VIN? I am also not unaware that a VERY expensive rebuild of a particular V8 by a reputable bloke, involved replacing the complete chassis, around the cut out and saved VIN from the rotten chassis, on the one hand a complete adminstrative/legal no-no, but imho pragmatically completely kosher. EDIT: Spent a while am today checking out "yer man" on the forum, he is imho completely genuine, offering helpful detailed advice on other builds, and also the "borrowing" of VIN's appears to be a common enough approach, including some very respectable long established knowledable blokes. cheers Marcus
  16. Lik a bloke in the club that I dont know has asked for the VIN for the Steyr Puch van, so he can source bits from MB for his modified build, I cant see why not since the VIN is displayed for all to see on most newer windscreens, so hardly a secret? Or am I missing sommat? Thoughts?
  17. Seeing as I have settled on "MarcusTheHat" on other forums, tis deeply appropiate. MTHG being my initials, and having it relayed to me that in my early days in a local club, where there was some confusion as to who I was, someone said, you know, Marcus, the Hat! Btw. my "difflock" monicker on here stemmed from my G-Wagen infatuation, with their USP being factory fitted difflocks, and I felt I actually needed multiple cognative difflocks to prevent my easily distracted nature from wandering off the straight and narrow.

See pics, I fabricated a "break/brake? press", and then realized after folding the 2 opposing sides that I could not get at the remaining two sides, nor could I use it to return the top lip, so, near-enough as somebody suggested, I should simply have cut a wooden blank the inner size and "beat" the copper round it on all four sides. So I did the other 2 sides over clamped in situ battens, and ditto for the top return. The 4 corners are soldered and watertight. Regardless when finished millimetric perfect and sat 4-square on a flat surface. Though I boobed and cut off the portion I needed to retain to fill in the gap at the 4 outer corners in the horizontal lip. Bugger! But on balance I was pleased enough. It was a pleasure working with the copper tbh.
  19. So £11,000.00*10*3 =330,000.00 GULP! But precisely correct re the "workingman's G Wagens" aka the 461 Series. With the 120BHP Sprinter engine etc etc.

  21. Well the idiot chargehand sagely agreed with the cunning-as-a-fox digger driver, when in answer to the question of disposing of the dug out subsoil from a play area construction job said, "Simple, we will dig a hole and bury it" Doh!
  22. Chinese crane scales are cheap, or at least affordable, and sufficently accurate for such purposes.
  23. The grille and bumper are the worst afflicted, shame on me that I could not motivate myself to even spray the grille and bumper with Fertan. New grill now ordered. I suggested hot dip galvanizing the bumpers, but to no avail. Sigh.
