  1. Ah!, thats why our insurance is so fecking expensive then!, us with zero claims since 1987 when we first bought a dwelling.
  2. That statement about not investigating sub letting(in respect of the Grenfell fire) cannot surely be correct. Since numbers(of persons at risk) is key to fire safety planning, and any such plans rendered useless, or certainly less useful, foolproof or "robust" by illict subletting/overcrowding, in the event of a fire. In this case I care not re the tenants/occupants legal immigration status. mth
  3. Erm, would a brushless 18V Milwaukee (1/2 or 3/4 drive) impact driver, with a chuck on not be suitable for this brute work, or would the impact/chattering ruin or interfere with the drilling, the necessary torque ud be there. Thy appear to be quite the wrist breaking animal, per several comments on the farming forum.
  4. curved glass at £300.00(ish) a pop though!
  5. I understood the ward boundaries were over-due a re-jig, to more fairly approportion the votes cast against the representitives/MP's elected. Which re-jig, by a neutral body, which would have the effect of benifiting the Conservatives, but this was scuppered by the deal with the DUP who in NI would have lost their majority of MP's elected to SF's gain.
  6. thanks for the heads up KJ, re the reduced VAT for pure woofburners, btw. I called in with Wilson's showroom in Coleraine this morning, since they stock Morso, and chuffed to find they are in the process of clearing out any/all other brands and for stocking the full Morso line only. Not that the guy I spoke to was in any way disparaging or badmouthing the other brands, simply a long headed business decision to concentrate on Morso. cheers mth
  7. Any substance, i.e. specific details, to the "copycat" flat burnings. mth
  8. logs in = Kw OUT, Regardess of the published KW output
  9. NO!, but I am! Quite Seriously, Not the fat bloke down the pub, but an Ex Local Government/Civil Servant, who witnessed a Bonus Scheme Supervisor(i.e me!|) starting at a post being graded at scale 4/5. And with my diligence, and reluctant Union involvement finally climbing to SO2.(and questionably/arguably PO1) & Subsequently watching a very cognatively challenged Chargehand, be awarded Scale 5. And! 'e reckoned e was worth more! FFS! mth
  10. I appreciate Trump simply cannot be completely the buffon so naturally appears, and Obama definately should NOT have awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, and despite being a conservative Conservative by inclination. I much prefer Obama to Trump in every respect, though I suspect Obama lacked the absolute vision and resolve to be a great leader, when under pressure, preferring to perhaps to play to the audience, i.e. smell the wind and court public opinion. cheers mth
  11. No point in running with doors open, as the heat is only sucked up the flue with the excess air. TBH I find the cast iron mass of the Morso allows for short hot clean burns, and intervening periods of re-radiated heat from the cast iron, and the walls behind. And in that respect better slightly oversized than under, i.e simply fire less often.. Also the first thing I look at is the weight of the stove, heavier is better, other things being equal. BTW our flue has not been cleaned in 20 years and still as clean as a whistle. P.S. I incorporated a 4" duct below the subfloor to the corner where the new woodstove is going, since the newbuild extension is so airtight. keep it simple.
  12. needs the gyro stablizing wotsit technology the founder of Spearhead(but sold firm & moved on), has incorporated in his latest tractor mount hedgecutter, (which also uses discs to cut btw). And actually with the plethora of drones about, surely such stablizing technology is now dirt cheap, i.e. simply use the "gyro" generated motor stablizing voltage/signal to operate a hydraulic valve.
  13. About 10 to 15 % of the population should be funded through University, the brightest 10 to 15%, regardless of income, this process should start with a screening process to identify the brightest early on and educate them appropriatly. Then the next "x" % provided with proper trade training, and some of the harder working tradesmen will go on outearn (some of) the University lot. Then the rest of the working population. Then the underclass/scroungers. Politicans should NOT be allowed to be elected to run the country, until they have proven themselves in the real world, not direct from University Students Union or Community Activist jobs. i.e. an apprenticeship in looking & sounding good, making airy promises and mostly spending other peoples money. But that wont happen.
  14. The key to morning after embers is; (i) virtually any hardwood (ii) pref unsplit of say 6" to 9" thick section, and as long as one can squeeze in. Set the block in on the dying fire or embers(depending on how dry it is) Walk away. Ergo I keep back suitable chunks for this job.
  15. Bingo! Politics in peacetime, like picking allies/backing insurgents in wartime, sure makes for some strange, if not downright distasteful, bedfollows. mth
  16. We are currently picking a stove for the garden room, having run a Morso Panther for 20+ years, Morso are well up there.(Cos they appear to be indestructible , despite my fondness for overfiring bytimes) However I am impressed by the Clearview offerings, a Newcastle based chimmny sweep/stove dealer(who I decided I liked on first meeting) chooses to sell ONLY Clearview, which tells me a lot. Austroflamm also produce some nice(but pricey) stoves. But since we want an oven stove, with a cooktop, our choice is limited. The Nectre Baker is also under consideration btw. But like Commando above the Clearview with their inherent technology and double glazing would be hard to beat, expecially having view one burning in a showroom last week, with spotlessly clean, and uncleaned glass. mth
  17. 026 Stihl, run on red Stihl 2 stroke mix, could sit in the saw or a jar for 4 months. Never any issues. OK The saw can be a tad harder to start, on first firing, but after that, scheesh. imho!
  18. Why do I find thissun "just right", iffen I hadney o bought the Kioti, see link, light, well shod, fat tyres, etc etc. Renault
  19. Well, again, FFS!, Anyone with an owt(with a nod to the sagacious Yorkshire types) o (un)common sense knew that a weaker pound would help exports, and indeed perhaps help to persuade Brits to spend the holidays nearer home, which would also boost the local economies. And import less from abroad, that can be more locally sourced. And yes, thanks Matelot, indeed the Magna Carta predated the EC/EU by a fair wheen o years. Grow a set o balls and stand on your own 2 feet, AND answer for your own shortcomings instead of hiding behind/among the greater masses. P.S. This post was brought to you courtsey of; (i) Southwold Jack (ii) Old Peculier beers which can hold their own again owt the rest of the world can offer. hic-the-hat
  20. From a "stuck in the middle" Norther Ireland perspective, re Policing. On balance, despite a mostly hostile(BBC) press the RUC did a very good job throughout the troubles. I know some genuinley decent Ex RUC Officers. I also know/know of some/more than some complete alcoholic fornicating rouges of Police Officers who know and use ever dodge, legal and illegal to facilitate their own ends and lives, mostly choosing to live well beyond their means in a trail of *flashy debt. And simply screw the innocent colleteral victims and damage. Also all very very good ant knowing their "rights" and absolutly maximizing PI and other insurance claims.(like the current crop of back injuries, due to "unsuitable" Police cars) From the perspective of a well reared property owning law abiding Presbyterian background. *Not so much now the unlimited overtime and fatalistic lifestyle choices of the troubles are behind us. mth.
  21. FFS! As a farmers(non farming, cos ah didnt get the farm) Son, no sector of society is any different, they ALL want more dosh, & for less work, better pensions, etc, etc, etc. be they Police Nurses Railwaymen Firemen or indeed Farmers
  22. Ah wonder wot size o a hoose has Lily Allen got? Her also being so concerned 'n all. jat mth
  23. How did you fare with the big Leibherr repair Eddie? I dont seem to have seen you about this while? Cheers mth
  24. Thank you KJ, I was expressing frustration and disgust with Corbyn's loathsome populist tactics this morning. Also shame on TM for not being prepared to face the public. This awful event was probably the result of a perfect storm of circumstances, including flammable "green" cladding, the lack of fire doors?,& had Bucksee, non-compliant doors been fitted, and by whom?, perhaps the nos of persons residing, officially or otherwise in this block, contributed to the death toll, 17 in 1 flat(I Saw quoted). Mattresses in corridors, who was responsible for that, management/mis-managment* or the person who deposited it? I fully understand the advice to stay put until rescued, the flats "should" have been self contained fire resistant zones, and mass panic i.e. self-evacuation is more like to cause a stampede/crush on the stairs, especially if toddlers and the elderly are involved. Many factors all contributing. But probably mostly the cladding, including the way it was fitted, was it installed to spec, prob not, from my observations of tradespersons taking shortcuts down through the years. Hysterical finger pointing and blaming cuts to Council funding(Councils who friviously spend oodles on LBGT agenda, Arts and other nonsense) is plain downright wrong. mth P.S. I spent 32 years in LG and knows how they ABSOLUTLY waste funding on made up jobs, the Arts and other vanity projects while neglecting the unsexy key services. Obviously my sincerest condolences to those involved, but whilst I felt obligated to say this, it is really meaninglesss because I did not know any of them.
