  1. The tree is indeed based on the original although Paul is also right that there have been a few very minor tweeks. Having seen a few "other versions" I believe it was right to base the tree on the old logo, it also gives a connection to the past while moving forward. Both the RFS & ICF along with other organisations have changed logos in recent times, some being quite different. Ours is 40 years old so ready for an update! With regards opening the discussion up to the membership on the logo; you guys can't agree if Stihl or Husky's are better, what chance would we have with a logo For anyone who wishes to be more proactive and "have a say" in the association the Media & Comms Committee have space for a few more members, we could do with some new blood! SB

  5. If it's not quality of work then how is your quality of customer care? Speaking of our experience our domestic side is as strong as ever. We are not the cheapest around by a country mile but they still come back year after year and we are constantly picking up new business. Try and talk to the customers you have lost to find out why. 9. Check out http://www.C-Track.co.uk Cost is about £150 per item for installation then a contract of £10-£15 per item a month for 3 years. The software is awesome, you can see where vehicles are, where they have been and how they have been driven. Ideal for addressing driver behavior which can reduce fuel and maintenance costs meaning more cash to invest on kit and training. You can set geo-fences (i.e. your worksite) which will alert you if the vehicle moves out of the "fence", ideal when you leave kit on site. Steve
  10. Quite true but more qualifications is good for the CV and being taught right in the first place cuts out bad habits and gives more confidence to a climber. We see that with our guys. From a recruitment point of view you can ask for more ££££ with more tickets
  11. Thanks everyone, we got sorted :-)

  14. You would do well to take some time and read the following from Citizens Advice regarding the law and "off premises sales" (which covers us as tree surgeons): Citizens Advice - Off-premises sales T&C are good business practice, they let the client know where they stand and provides you with a way of extracting money from difficult clients (such as in your case). If your worried about the impact on your business just remember to sell it in a positive way; it shows your professional, its protecting the client, you're being open, honest and transparent. Also, it's the law!

  16. Nevermind the personal winnings (never won on lotto but had plenty on scratch cards), just think of all the heritage we've saved as a result of the Heritage Lottery Fund. Having been persoanally involved in a £3.2m historic garden restoration project with an arb contract of over £380,000 and about to be involved in a c£1m restoration project I know at first hand what the lottery can do for our historic monuments, parks, gardens and other sites which, without that money would either still be on the English Heritage "At Risk" register or be lost already. Keep on spending guys; your saving our history and paying my wages

  19. That's google, not ebay. Google reads your cookies, sees you've been on ebay, then when you search arbtalk it links the two and shows ebay. Yes ebay are paying for advertising but don't just blame them. Google is a very powerful beast, do not underestimate how much information it harvests from you and feeds back to you when searching.

  22. Don't do it through Yell (Hibu), get some training and do it yourself. Can be effective if done right but we found paying £500 a month to Hibu generated us about £600 a month in work (excluding time to quote all the jobs) and even then couldn't tell for certain if they had just found us on google anyway. We are now looking at running our own ad words and maximising our website. Try Moz.com and their learning centre and use google analytics
