  1. Powetilt hitch will swing the bucket 180deg whereas the tilting buckets only get the bucket at a 45 deg angle. i have a powertilt on my 1.8t tak- it’s quite nice as its clutter free but I don’t keep it on all the time as it’s only on a semi quick hitch so doesn’t work will weld on pins attachments etc. Use a Harford wedgelock mostly.
  2. One step at a time with attachments- and start with the basic ‘manual’ attachments otherwise you can end up spending thousands on stuff that’s sits around rusting. I’d start with basic things like a root ripper/ decent rake, fixed grab etc- all stuff that makes your machine more versatile enables you to do tidy efficient work, after that you’ll get a feel for other attachments and which ones are really worth having.
  3. Would it be worth doing a higher rate for the first few hours in a day. Say £80 for the first hour and then drop to £28 after that. Gives you a bit more in a day but also if your day is shorter due to your efficiency then your still covering a bit more of your time spent prepping/yard time etc. Works out about the same as £35 per hour but customers will feel more inclined to fill the day and if they don’t then you haven’t lost out as much?
  4. If it’s too good to be true it usually is!?
  5. Only it never gets delivered! Phone them up- suss it out, but That is very cheap- too cheap.
  6. Fairly sure that is a regular on eBay- I certainly saw it about 4 months ago and deduced that it was a phoney- far too cheap for one thing, where is it located?
  7. I don’t know the direct nature of your business- I’m not disputing use of using red/tractors on the road when in a proven Agri/horti activity. The problem is if it’s non of the above, a if it’s a non agri/horti/forestry tractor you can’t use red, you need a C1E license. That was told to me by VOSA and HMRC website seems to back it up. Tree surgery isn’t forestry much like landscaping/groundwork’s isn’t Horti
  8. Hopefully some job offers then too!
  9. I agree. But unfortunately running a tractor on the is pretty hard to comply with the law. It’s agriculture, run it on red, if it’s not Agri, it should be on white and thus should be in a different taxation class which is aimed at LGV/HGV and thus pretty impossible to apply to a tractor. I believe a lorry is the only viable way to stay stay AND legal if hauling on the road.
  10. Safe maybe- legal- who knows?!
  11. Yeah agreed- but £1000 would sort the wheat from the chaff- £10k sounds fishy to me. Some items are less than a £1000- no bloody way I’d give them £10k up front even if I was serious about buying a high value item. What happened if Euro Auctions went bust overnight- for example...
  12. Your registered to bid? How much did you have to put down?
  13. Don’t get too excited about it- you need to put down £10k just to register as a bidder- plus various other stipulations, there something like 15million quids with of plant on auction- I think a lot of it will be exported.
  14. Not a bad idea at all! Often wish I had a remote control digger instead so I could stand next to the wall.
  15. Thanks for the compliment! Yes Dan, did it on my own with digger- have to get out every now and again to pin the rocks from behind and check alignment/batter. But certainly easier then using chains!
  16. That looks good, nice and basic idea That’s just the sort of answer I’m looking for. Only trouble being the Ford extends in a different way so wouldn’t have the same affect. The extension is from the top of the dipper if that makes sense. I absolutely love hydraulic thumbs- I know they’re pretty elementary my your standards but here is a before and after I did of a old spoil heap slump, I did it with a 6 tonner with hyd thumb and it was so simple just to be able to knock the rock around to get the good face, grip it into place and then use bucket to backfill behind- some of those rocks were a ton or so. this is quite a lot of the work I do and to be able to adequately set a backhoe up for it would be ideal.
  17. Looking good- is the rotator pretty robust- could you grub out small stumps with it or is that a bit harsh?
  18. Yeah the Volvo BL71 looks like a nice machine with the wider front tyres and servo controls- but finding one seems to be a bit of a hens teeth scenario. That Ford is £8k which wouldn’t go far on a more modern machine- but might be a good exercise in seeing if backhoes work out for my needs and wouldn’t think I’d loose much on it. Got no 3rd service on the backactor so not sure what might be involved in fitting one for the hydraulic thumb- perhaps a diverter on the extending dipper?
  19. Yes well spotted. Looks like the same hitch you get on telehandlers etc?
  20. Theres a reasonably tidy Ford 675D come up for sale. It’s definitely older then I’d ideally like and would probably prefers servos rather than sticks, but given that I’m just dipping a toe into the backhoe route ATM I wonder if it’s worth going for as I doubt I’d loose more than a grand or two if I wanted to shift it on/didn’t work out for me. I’d just want a hydraulic thumb on it I think- if it’s all a success then perhaps look at 4cx further down the line. Have you ever had much to do with these old Fords Eddie? Or should I avoid on the basis that it might put me off backhoes altogether!
  21. I sold my very tidy TB016 back in 2013 and reckon it would be the same if not more now had I held on to it, the downside I learnt it got stolen a few years after- obviously quite desirable for theives too!
  22. It’s the only way! I work entirely on my own now- don’t even bother with subbies now- just me and my machines- if the job requires more hands I politely turn it down. My life is almost stress free as a result!
  23. Is it only £2k difference between micro and mini? You wonder why anyone goes for micro- let’s face it you only have a micro if space is desperate I manage to get my mini in most places but I suppose a doorway might pose a problem. This was a little tight especially with a glazed cab?
  24. Started another pond today. Back next week to dig out a bit more and smooth it out- then wait for the rain! pic 3 was the before photo- just a little trial hole to see if it held water.
