  1. Went back to finish the pond I started last week, not a spring in sight but the rain water alone has filled it to 60% in 5 days. Whether it holds it in summer is another thing...
  2. Fair play Eddie- that says enough, specially pic 3!
  3. Something that tends to put me off- and it’s purely speculative as I’ve never used one. I don’t want to use the word abuse, but typical real world situation which I counter- grappling with boulders- digging out ditches and ponds etc- how would an engcon stand up to working immersered in water, that boulder/log that’s too big to lift so you end up rolling it around, big stump that needs coming out, I’m not saying I’m rough on machines- quite the opposite but there always seems to be the odd situation crops up where yeah you’d want a bigger machine but the job needs doing there and then so tend to push the machine through it. I just wonder how robust they are?
  4. Yeah you’d think so- when I first got my landrover 10 years ago the insurance reduced dramatically when adding my wife, which surprised me as I wouldn’t want her driving it for love or money!
  5. I guess you don’t miss what you haven’t had? In a nutshell though what are the advantages of an S couple and the Scandi buckets- I get why on a tilt rotator, but what’s the benefit as an alternative to standard pin grab hitches?
  6. Looks tidy- good engines in them- same as the Hitachi zx60usb.
  7. This is how I’m going to get my next grader/ bolt on lip and wear strips fitted underneath. Bolt on blade allows better bucket to blade contact when cleaning up etc too..
  8. I got Rhinox buckets as standard with newest Tak- I’ve found them to be very well made and like the fact the come with little hooks so it’s easy to move around with grading bucket. Digbits grading bucket I’ve worn through the bottom in 3 years- might just be my style of operating but metal could be thicker on the base IMO.
  9. Powetilt hitch will swing the bucket 180deg whereas the tilting buckets only get the bucket at a 45 deg angle. i have a powertilt on my 1.8t tak- it’s quite nice as its clutter free but I don’t keep it on all the time as it’s only on a semi quick hitch so doesn’t work will weld on pins attachments etc. Use a Harford wedgelock mostly.
  10. One step at a time with attachments- and start with the basic ‘manual’ attachments otherwise you can end up spending thousands on stuff that’s sits around rusting. I’d start with basic things like a root ripper/ decent rake, fixed grab etc- all stuff that makes your machine more versatile enables you to do tidy efficient work, after that you’ll get a feel for other attachments and which ones are really worth having.
  11. Would it be worth doing a higher rate for the first few hours in a day. Say £80 for the first hour and then drop to £28 after that. Gives you a bit more in a day but also if your day is shorter due to your efficiency then your still covering a bit more of your time spent prepping/yard time etc. Works out about the same as £35 per hour but customers will feel more inclined to fill the day and if they don’t then you haven’t lost out as much?
  12. If it’s too good to be true it usually is!?
  13. Only it never gets delivered! Phone them up- suss it out, but That is very cheap- too cheap.
  14. Fairly sure that is a regular on eBay- I certainly saw it about 4 months ago and deduced that it was a phoney- far too cheap for one thing, where is it located?
  15. I don’t know the direct nature of your business- I’m not disputing use of using red/tractors on the road when in a proven Agri/horti activity. The problem is if it’s non of the above, a if it’s a non agri/horti/forestry tractor you can’t use red, you need a C1E license. That was told to me by VOSA and HMRC website seems to back it up. Tree surgery isn’t forestry much like landscaping/groundwork’s isn’t Horti
  16. Hopefully some job offers then too!
  17. I agree. But unfortunately running a tractor on the is pretty hard to comply with the law. It’s agriculture, run it on red, if it’s not Agri, it should be on white and thus should be in a different taxation class which is aimed at LGV/HGV and thus pretty impossible to apply to a tractor. I believe a lorry is the only viable way to stay stay AND legal if hauling on the road.
  18. Safe maybe- legal- who knows?!
  19. Yeah agreed- but £1000 would sort the wheat from the chaff- £10k sounds fishy to me. Some items are less than a £1000- no bloody way I’d give them £10k up front even if I was serious about buying a high value item. What happened if Euro Auctions went bust overnight- for example...
  20. Your registered to bid? How much did you have to put down?
  21. Don’t get too excited about it- you need to put down £10k just to register as a bidder- plus various other stipulations, there something like 15million quids with of plant on auction- I think a lot of it will be exported.
  22. Not a bad idea at all! Often wish I had a remote control digger instead so I could stand next to the wall.
  23. Thanks for the compliment! Yes Dan, did it on my own with digger- have to get out every now and again to pin the rocks from behind and check alignment/batter. But certainly easier then using chains!
  24. That looks good, nice and basic idea That’s just the sort of answer I’m looking for. Only trouble being the Ford extends in a different way so wouldn’t have the same affect. The extension is from the top of the dipper if that makes sense. I absolutely love hydraulic thumbs- I know they’re pretty elementary my your standards but here is a before and after I did of a old spoil heap slump, I did it with a 6 tonner with hyd thumb and it was so simple just to be able to knock the rock around to get the good face, grip it into place and then use bucket to backfill behind- some of those rocks were a ton or so. this is quite a lot of the work I do and to be able to adequately set a backhoe up for it would be ideal.
