    They are the packers that allow the blades to be sandwiched but as the blades wear the gap increases and they part rather than shear. I have changed blades on the long reach, shortened shafts and welded cutter teeth back on so cant see any reason why you cant fix it, what you got to loose if its broken anyway. Keep us posted with a few pics if you do pluck up the courage

    Not sure but I took the play in the blades out of my 42" hs 85 today by machining down the packers by .75 mm and its now pucker again.

    Maybe it should be reported to the local bee keeping club. Lots of effort is going into research of the loss of bees and it might be of intrest.
