  2. Thanks catweazel nice to get a second opinion on the situation, all ideas welcomed Thanks again
  3. I friend of mine has a few acres of ancient oak woodland/ woodland pasture approx 50 years old. And at least 50% of the trees are showing severe signs of this diease, i.e - many dead trees - die-back (not just usual stag heading) on young - lots of new growth on the main stem where the main branches have died back - black sap like liquid running drown parts of main stem This has all been made worse as a large percentage of trees have been damaged by cattle damaging bark when they rub/ scratch against them approx 10-15 years ago, causing infection. Any idea's what he could do. I suggested he may have to get a felling licence to take out most of the dead/ dangerous trees and possibly some of the more severe cases to reduce spread of the diease, we have both read up as much as we can about it. Thanks for any input in advance
  4. What do other woodland owners have in there woodlands. Just to get an idea of what maybe permissible, in the way of designs/ size/ etc Thanks for all the replies so far!
  5. Just looking to manage the woodland and store my tractors, saw bench, splitters, logs etc. The building I'm looking to erect is not much bigger than 'timbercutterdartmoor's' building. Personally I cant see too much of an issue with the size of the building i'm looking at putting up and it will be in keeping with the wood, however what I think and what the planners think maybe too different things. Cheers
  6. Thats ok i'm just looking to erect a plain open sided building approx 30 meter by 20 meter to season logs and store machinery. Still worried about them coming back within the 28 days though! Thanks for the replies
  7. I'm looking to put a small building up in my woodland only 6 acres to store firewood/ saw logs in either timber (pole barn) or steel frame (rsj). Just wondering what types of buildings others have, as I'm not sure I would be allowed steel framed due to planning. Anyone any answers cheers

  14. Anyone got any postgraduate awards on here like an MSc, postgraduate diploma/ certificate? What were your experiences of the course and did they help you get a job. The distance learning MSc in Forestry looked good offered by Bangor university Reason for asking is that ive got a BSc (hons) in environmental management but like many others im finding it hard to get a job (also have cs30-31) and since graduating iv set up a firewood business and am getting a lot more interested in forestry in general (just like being out in the woods really) Cheers for any guidance on the subject

  22. I may have to start putting my prices up next season, currently weve been selling good hardwoods (oak/ash/alder) for £80 1.2 cubic meters (delivered 10 mile radius) and the margins are getting ever smaller now with the fuel price rise/ vat etc. That price is pretty standard around where I am west gloucestershire, are prices regionally different?
