  1. I've just been going through some old photos and found these 2 from a few years ago in the days when I was still chainsaw milling and could stack the boards in the order they came off. First one is of a tree I did for a customer second is of Oak stacked at my place 5yrs ago, I unstacked them a couple of months ago, the wide 1" boards at the bottom are lovely and flat.
  2. I think you must mean £130 cubic foot and that's a bit steep but if you can get it, well done you. If they were longer boards you my be in with a chance of getting that price but 6' is a short board in furniture terms.
  3. Static would suggest its a saw mill as in commercial premises where you take the trees to them rather then mobile where they come to you. I would stay with two categories; mobile and static Chainsaw mills are mobile so wouldn't need its own category and again we're talking general public who won't necessarily understand what a chainsaw mill is but will be able to distinguish between Mobile mill and Static mill, and if they can't then we don't really need that sort of customer!
  4. If this directory is for general public to use too you don't want to confuse them, in general Joe Public isn't known for their intelligence!
  5. Just looked at that thread again, now I know what we're talking about. So, I'm the one he thinks will offer him £1000s then, could be an interesting conversation!
  6. They are indeed. I wondered where he got my number from.
  7. Anyone up on the going rate of redwood per cube?
  8. Righto, I'm just going through some now, I'll send them over. Where they going to?
  9. High quality i've got, what in particular do you want? trees, planks, chainsaw mill, bandsaw mill I've got about 50gig of images
  10. Not milled any London plane for ages but was on site last week and the client had a lump that was felled a couple of years ago, he couldn't decide whether to put it through the biomass or have it milled. I talked him into having it milled, pleased with the results.
  11. I've had an enquiry for 16 cu/ft of 1" yew boards. Has anyone got any available, I've only got 1.5" & 2"
  12. Have we got any further with this or are we still in the planning stage.
  13. If there's a committee involved I'm not surprised one tree has been dead for 7 yrs.
  14. Based on your measurements that's about 150 hoppus ft. Not sure what the going rate of Oak per hoppus ft is, I did read somewhere roadside was around £6.5 per h/ft. Big J would be the best guy to ask.
  15. Having read this before about drying Sycamore I thought I'd check out my boards as I have only ever sticked them out horizontally straight after milling. As far as I can see there are sticker marks or blue/black staining. The only reason I can find for this is that I don't mill the trees as soon as they are felled, it's normally a couple of months before I get to them. Granted they're not great photos but from what I can see there are no marks. Anyone else got a theory?
  16. Today we started with Cherry then Sweet Chestnut then on to a few Oaks. Long day, hard day, lots of planks made so ended up being a good day
  17. Milled some Oak and London Plane today. All destined for ringing up for the biomass boiler if I couldn't do it.
  18. I would suggest in the interest of security any photos sent in that shows your vehicle you try to block out the reg number. I know some might think that's a bit OTT but I'd rather be on the safe side.
  19. I'm in. Great idea, go for it. When a directory is set out by area it makes it so much easier to find someone in your area.
  20. Panther look to be the new generation of the old alaskan mills. I've sent you a pm
  21. It's about 6" which can be reduced a bit if you take the dogs of the saw. Most people when they start chainsaw milling for the first time start a bit smaller and work up. Chainsaw milling is seriously knackering on the back. I've got a bar with chains (new and unused) and mill rails that will give me a 5' cut that I bought for a large London Plane that when it came to it I never used as the client had the trunk ringed up for firewood, let me know if you interested.
  22. You have to drill into the bar but best off talk to RobD and check out his videos on youtube. Having said that you won't need an oiler until you get a bar over 47" that's providing you're using an 880 or similar
  23. What Big J says is all true but I think everyone getting into milling should go the chainsaw route first. Otherwise you'll never appreciate just how less painful bandsaw milling is! As long as you are sensible and don't go overboard with the chainsaw milling gear like I did you'll be Ok, mind you the problem of having to much was solved when it was stolen
  24. This is just some of the 2" & 3" Oak & spaltered Beech boards that made up the 800 bd/ft I milled on Thursday in Derbyshire for a client who wants to fit out his shop with solid wood counter tops etc. Good days work, back suffered the following day though!
  25. That's Sweet Chestnut not Horse Chestnut
