  1. Sounds like it may be Kretzschmaria deusta IMO. Damage may have been already done to the Whitebeam. How old is it?
  2. Is it forming a crust with other FBs around the base? Is it spongy or hard?
  3. We planted this young English Oak for the queens diamond jubilee. It hasnt had the easiest start in life. Two weeks after it was planted it was flooded by the river and about 3 weeks ago it was pretty much drowned by the river. This past week it has started to go yellow and the tips of the leaves are brown. We have put mulch around the base of it and havent watered it because the water table is still very very high. I'm thinking waterlogged roots may be the cause of it looking unhappy with life.
  4. Todays jobs. Clear around bridge prior to rebuild and take pictures of state of bridge. Then install two full BS standard stile kits at different locations. Broke a hammer on the second job removing a 4 inch nail which bent badly when it hit a knot.
  5. Had a knee op 3 years ago as i snapped most of the ligaments and tendons in my right knee. The tendons after they were tidied up were too short to stitch back together so had them tidied up hoping that a nice person would donate some ligaments and tendons so i could walk again. I now have another mans ligaments and tendons in. I can walk fine and can run without any problems. If am walking on an uneven surface or a steep slope for more than 3 hours it begins to ache to will have to be careful for years yet.
  6. Im 5'11" and weigh a feeble 68kg. I'm not anorexic just a thin being with muscle in certain places. I don't go to the gym as i would rather let my body grown naturally. On a crap diet (takeaways, bbqs, n few bottles of beer each night). But balance it out with lots of physical work and exercise. I don't like be stood/sat around doing nothing i always want to be doing something active. This past week i have notcied my shoulder muscles have grown after shovelling about 20 ton of stone by hand then carting it with a wheel barrow about 300 metres.
  7. Had a report of a bridge off its mounts after the flooding. We found how bad it was this afternoon. A new bridge is in order according to the RoW ranger. I think 4, 4"x4" legs driven in will be sufficient.
  8. Will be looking at buying this album soon. Rather a fan of the White Stripes/Jack white. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s92smjLq_38&feature=BFa&list=HL1343334369]Jack White - Freedom At 21 - YouTube[/ame] Hoping to be buying Shinedowns new album too [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7NVxAMQn_I&feature=autoplay&list=HL1343334369&playnext=1]Shinedown - Bully (Official Music Video) - YouTube[/ame]
  9. Dad and i's P reg 110 has done just over 132k. It was used as a towing vehicle alot of its life so the engine has seen some serious use. It is on its 1st clutch, full set of bushes, new sump plug, 2 new back tyres, new battery (then found dodgy earth was cause), new brake discs, calipers and pads all round, new master cylinder since we've had it 9coming up to a year. Before we bought it, it was in a shocking state. The rear crossmember had been ripped out (towing 3,500 with handbrake on and chained to gatepost concreted in 4 ft), the back door was on by one hinge and most of the suspension need to be replaced which is was with 130 shocks and springs F.O.C. Shame they didnt replace the bushes but no problems there. Since our Discovery we have always stuck with Defenders as we began with an ex army 2.25 petrol lightweight and fell in love with it.
  10. Our flagship hay crop. The first time it has been hay cut properly for 2 years.
  11. Just heard about it over the radio. Doesnt look promising for the 22 year old under several hundred tons of rubble. They can't use thermal imaging because of the weather coniditons. BBC News - Landslip on Dorset coast: Person trapped under rocks
  12. Oakleys or Dirty Dog. Got a pair of both. There is a shop near you jon which stocks them both you may know the shop i'm on about.
  13. Happy birthday m8. Have a cracking evening. Feel free to have a few sherries.
  14. Glad i cleaned one of the local estates fleet (2 New Holland CR9090, 3 CR 8000 and 2 TC5000). Spent two weeks cleaning that lot after last years harvest. Was a good laugh getting absolutely caked in dust from air lining them out then getting covered in muddy water when i was cleaning it with everything running.
  15. Not sure but it was running high on the revs as i drove by belching thick black smoke but it wasnt coming from the manifold more from the thresher/ chaff exit.
  16. Saw the first field of rape being cut along the trailway as i was mowing. Just typical i didnt have my camera with me as when i came back the field had gone but so had the combine. Nothing but a burnt shell of the combine and smouldering ash where the rape crop was.
  17. Some more of the chilled out stuff i listen to. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzhAS_GnJIc&feature=bf_next&list=HL1342987713]Taylor Swift ft. The Civil Wars - Safe & Sound (The Hunger Games) - YouTube[/ame] Not sure what to make of this cover of "All along the watchtower" [ame] [/ame]
  18. Yup the tops are browning off just waiting for the stems to finish off. Its only in the organic fields on the estate i shoot on the conventionals have another 2 weeks left atleast.
  19. The fields of rape around us are browning off nicely. the winter wheat and barley is ready to go. Just waiting for the beans, spring wheat and barley and the poppies (opium popies too). Got hay crops ready to be cut next week. Going to be very very dusty with all the river silt in the bottom of the grass.
  20. Alder with Ganoderma lipense/australe and spot on with the white rot. Is it on an old coppice stool?
  21. Lets begin....Right knee (working on uneven slopes), right shoulder (rotator cuff), left ankle (as right knee), lower back just above pelvis. Only 22 as well
  22. Spent the last three days shifting road planings on a footpath diversion which has been going on since the 2001 foot and mouth outbreak. The deal was the farmer dropped off two 50 ton heaps of road planings in the desired locations for us to use. My colleague in top of one of the heaps as a scale. This heap was only about 15 ton if not less.
  23. If the pic didn't say Staffs Fire and Rescue i would mistake that for a Damory coach. They stick to their routes come rain, shine or snow.
  24. We have just cut the rides on a a big shoot i beat, shoot and generally help out on. We normally use a largish JD (Dont ask model as don't have a clue) with a 10 ft deck forthe tighter spots. As there are alot of stumps hiding in the brambles the chain drive on a slip clutch (custom design made on the estate) works wonders. We have a deck we put on the back of a quadbike when doing the really tight bits and have a 30 ft deck (3 x 10ft decks) for when we top the covercrops at the end of the season and when we need to top and side up at the same time. We find tyres for a past time in the woods next to the estate roads. I found a phosphorus bomb a couple of seasons back. The tractor nearly stalled when it hit it. I thought it was a powder fire extinguisher i had just clipped.
