  1. The VRO was lifted at the end of April. We only did lanes that had been driven previously. The Chitterne Down video was difficult to film as it was so slippery thanks to a group of off roaders in front doing donuts and repeatedly going through the puddles. We don't drive down a lane if we know it is going to be cut up severely. if there are ruts we stay in them and dont make fresh tracks.
  2. The final video [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVYwHgRqtp0&feature=plcp]Chitterne Down - YouTube[/ame]
  3. Yup. Wont need to water it for about 2 months ha ha
  4. My local river in the past 24 hours has risen about 6 ft. It is still rising and its crown lifting the trees on the river banks so it can flow easier. Several trunk roads in the west of the county are closed as are the local minor roads. One of the villages has been blocked off by the flood water which is at its highest since 1979 when it breached the flood barriers.
  5. Well we had a good day despite starting with 3 vehicles and finishing with 2. One of them broke a shock mount and had a dodgy starter earth. Still it was a good day got very muddy in places but we washed it off going through the puddles. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ponFwfpinMU&feature=plcp]Yarnbury Castle Byway - YouTube[/ame]
  6. Monsoon season in town at the moment. The river is well over its banks ans its still rising with more rain. It may excede 1979 levels (when the river came well over its banks and breached the flood walls). We have been told the 1979 floods are a 200 year event i think it may be a tad early.
  7. Been clearing a culvert today. The showers avoided us but the big lump of torrential rain didn't. Luckily we had finished by then and watched our hard work work to its fullest potential. We cleared the arch 4 times the starting width which is why the rec flooded everytime a gnat urinated up stream. Now it is flowing nice and freely... for now. So yes i did get soaked.
  8. Ha ha you seen the vids of when we went through it last time. it is about 2 feet higher again. We checked it after work by driving in from the hut end and down to it. As our doors leak like seives (no door sills) we wont have a go at it and two people out with us don't have snorkels.
  9. Now got 4 vehicles which is the max in an ideal world but if anyone wants to join us then PM me by 9pm (GMT) tomorrow. As per last message we wont be doing the first mile of the ox drove due to excessive surface water. Unless you have a Mog or a tank you aint getting through.
  10. Just bumped into a friend of mine who works for the local EA. He is on call out and said that he has been helping the east somerset team with grip clearance as alot of the streams were bringing down summer vegetation and clogging the grates that go under the little bridges. The local river is on flood warning on the upper stretches but currently watching the local levels rise at the water level point in town and about 5 miles up stream at Hammoon. It is rising at about an inch/hour and the rain has got heavier. Glad we have a snorkel on the 110 now. Splashy spalshy.
  11. Our 110 now has a new appendage. We can now go into deeper water than we could before. Next plan is new door bottoms all round except the back door and get the leak down the A posts sorted. Hopefully some black bathroom sealant liberally applied will sort that.
  12. Here are a couple of pics of the good points and bad points behind the flail head on our BCS Flail. Please note the last two pics were when we decided to call it a day. Its at the bottom of the page http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/picture-forum/31511-not-strictly-tree-related-but-countryside-related-4.html
  13. We wont be doing the first mile of the ox drove due to the depth of the puddle. Even with a snorkel you would struggle to get a decent bow wave. But we shall be going to do a few lanes up on the plain which we didn't do last time as one of the guys came out with 1/2 tank of fuel in a 2.5 deisel jeep.
  14. Had a another productive day. Finished off a couple of footpaths in a nearby village then cleared a very overgrown bridleway. The next bridleway we went to clear we only did 3/4 of it as it was full of chain link fence that the flail was happilly eating.
  15. Currently running it on higher octane fuel and it has made a massive difference. The revs are more constant and it doesn't struggle as much on wet grass. It is greased at the start of the day and at the end to make sure it is well and truly lubed. Had the cylinder head gasket replaced as it started to leak a bit of oil as one of the bolts had been overtightened from a previous strip and degrease.
  16. Our litle project today. Install one pedestrian gate complete with stock proof fencing to the right hand side. Install latch onto post so field gate can close.
  17. Looks more like Ganoderma australe/lipsense IMO especially if its on Beech. Only way to find out is through microscope.
  18. That last shot has that "I made that! " look about it ha ha.
  19. 1-6 - Clavaria sp growing on small unearthed hawthorn roots 7-11 - Coprinus disseminatus on well rotting Ash stump
  20. Ha ha maybe so. I'm going to be sending some shots into the Countryfile calender comp this year. Not all of otters but of various other things.
  21. 5FDP (Five Finger Death Punch) sound very much luck Disturbed now IMO [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptzzU7jFQwo&feature=branded]Five Finger Death Punch - Coming Down - YouTube[/ame]
  22. Thursdays sightings. Really happy with how the shots came out as they were a fair way out into the river. Two videos as well [ame] [/ame] [ame] [/ame]
  23. Hello folks My old man, myself and a couple of friends are going out again for another green laning day. We shall be doing the same lanes that we did on the previous day. We shall be the lead vehicle and will have no fear testing the depth of the water now we have a snorkel as the last puddle (see Ox Drove Lake videos on youtube - name is DorsetOffRoader) was a tad deep. Let me know if you can make it.
  24. ha ha no worries bud. should have phoned ya earlier in the week. we may be green laning again a week tomorrow. it depends what the old man wants to do as he is on hol until monday
