  1. Just found out two local lads were killed in a car accident involving one car and a large Oak tree. There are rumours flying around that the car was stolen and they were both drunk. A friend of mine has told me they were travelling southbound but hit the oak tree on the northbound carriageway. The details of the lads havent been released yet but speed looks to have been a factor. 2. Same here. Was fine one minute then just changed. Edit: Now all good
  3. The tree was covered in them. It would be a wood turners paradise if it came down.
  4. No need to throw your toys out of the pram. I was only trying to help. Its getting a bit boring with people getting hostile over silly things.
  5. Cheers Tony. When i looked at the multiforme picture i didnt look right but was too late to edit it.
  6. Some fung found in a large block of mixed (predominantly Ash and Sitka Spruce) plantation with a few meaty Beech dotted about. I shall have a stab at I.Ding some of them. 1-4 - Found growing on a well rotted Beech stem. 5-6 - Hypoxylon multiforme on an old fallen Beech limb 7-10 - Funky looking number growing on a rotting Beech lump 11-17 - Ash stump with Coriolus versicolor, Xylaria hypoxylon,Xylaria polymorpha 18-20 - Stropharia aeruginosa
  7. Could be the flywheel bearing is on its last legs. The smell of clutch is the heat coming from the collapsing bearings radiating into the clutch.
  8. Whats the access like as Knighton Countryside have one for hire? PM Mark Gibbens on here
  9. I walked into the boss's office and handed him a pear. He asked,Whats this for? A pay rise.My wife told me to grow it first and then ask you.......
  10. We felled a hawthorn last year and the bags had been the tree so long some had be included into the tree. As we were only taking the chippings to the fire pit we chipped the lot bags and all. Word of advice..Make sure if you do it you are standing upwind of it. Most of the time my colleagues and are are strong stomached but that made us all wretch. We found some flytipped Lavender and Rosemary bushes so they went through the chipper to get rid of the smell. It drives me up the wall when you are within 50 metres of a bright red poo bin and they still fling it high into the shrubbery. Got a flail job with the BCS to "look forward to". I know there are about 150 poo bags in the brambles but the trouble is you cant get them out without ripping the bags and emptying all their contents all over the black binsack.
  11. We had someone come to the office about that par-charring technique. He said he would be able to get grant money by mid october and be up and running by november. We haven't heard diddly from him recently about him starting the thinning works. Although it would work they were on about selling the stuff which is only 2-4 inch diametre for £15 a bag which only held 5 kg. According to him it was to cover the cost of the fuel, haulage and labour to make it.
  12. 110 is sweet as a nut m8. Had to inform insurance company that we have had a brand new chassis fitted (don't ask why) which put the premium up by 50 quid. It brakes extremely well now it has a working master cylinder. Still have to open the bonnet each time to start it but the little problem can wait until december. Just want some deep puddles to go splashing in.
  13. It is absolutely belting it down out there. It has been for the past 2 hours. No lightning just very gusty winds and about 2 inches of rain so far.
  14. Got a bit soggy walking back home from helping out a contractor on a new stretch of trailway. Just typical it didnt rain all day until i got within 150 metres of home then it chucked it down.
  15. On some of the partridge pens at a local shoot with a nearby traveller site we set up anti theft tripwires. They are wired to a spring loaded hammer which sets of a shotgun cartidge with 3 wads inside. Its non-lethal but gives whoever tries and steal stuff a nasty bruise depending on the trajectory. We normally have it aimed at shin height but one of them had been knocked by a deer and was at nut height. I forgot about it and ended up on the deck feeling like my nuts were in the next county. It works well because of the loud bang and the shock of the wad hitting you.
  16. This is Floyd's groin after having a sharp stick ripped him a new one. It was 2mm away from the femoral artery. It was found today by my dad but the vet recons it may have been done monday. 17 stitches inside and out. No running about for 7-10 days and only light exercise for the week after that. Will be able to chase pheasants near xmas.
  17. I volunteer on a daily basis for my local ranger service. Not because i am forced to but because i enjoy it. You can't tell people not to have fun whilst doing a menial task like litter picking, clearing areas of scrub or painting benches all day long. The reason i volunteer is it keeps my working head on and nowadays you need as much expirience as possible to even have a sniff of any job. I get uniform, work boots, water proofs and training courses all paid for which all helps in the long run. The base is in the town so i don't need to use fuel to get to where i need to be. If it wasn't for volunteers some libraries wont be open, TIC's wouldn't be open, OXFAM, Red Cross and St John Ambulance would be non-existant.
  18. It goes down the side in a piece of rubber pipe that is attached to the chassis with cable ties. Had the AA out this evening as the bugger wouldn't crank. Turns out the immobiliser/ignition system was dead so can bypass that via a fly wire to the alternator.
  19. Found this funky number growing on a Cedar of Lebanon log used as a "youth bench". Cant find anything on Rogers Mushrooms which comes close. It looks similar to Schizopora paradoxa in the top picture but the bottom two don't match up.
  20. Its a cracking truck now. It barely smokes at all, drives smooth with only a little clunk when taking up drive. There is no after bump wallow from the suspension and the truck doesn't roll like mad like it used to. The only good part of the old chassis was the 3 year old rear crossmember which we will probably selling on.
  21. Well here are the pics of the new chassis.
  22. Pics shall be up tomorrow evening as too dark to get decent pics.
