  1. If we are doing self closing gates we tend to us a 6x6"x8 ft square post and offset the hinges to which ever way you want the gate to close. You can just about see what i mean in the picture. But the ones the gate suppliers are crap. As are the screws they supply. We use Centrewire for our metal framed gates but buy the gate gear from a local agri merchant as it is cheaper and easier. The gate and corral were supplied by Centrewire but came without instructions and dimensions which was not very helpful.
  2. Looks like an old Inonotus dryadeus to me
  3. Started to burn up in the fire pit today. Atleast 2 days of burning up and another day of just general sweeping up. Got about a trailer load of waste wood to burn up down in our "hanger".
  4. Some shots of of fungi found in an Oak plantation on the deadwood. 1-3 - Witches Butter 4-5 - Yellow Brain fungus
  5. We get our fillet steaks from the local butcher but we don't buy the full on fillet unless it is a special occasion. If it is just us eating it we get two Fillet tails ( ends which are too small for steaks but too big and good for mincing) and cut them in half.
  6. Our next outing is the 18th May. Planning on doing South dorset/Purbeck lanes. Same as our last outing just a litte less muddy and several water crossings (not very deep). As per last green laning trip scratches may be involved in places but only gorse wounds. Not Blackthorn gouges. And for thoses of you interested the North Dorset Trailway is being officially opened on 19th May.
  7. 3 Sleeper bridges to be replaced in a farmers field. Just glad he said it was ok to drive around his field.
  8. Sorry about those mate. Hopefully they will come out. I found scratch remover pens work well to get the deep ones out. Are they very noticeable to the untrained eye?
  9. Any luck getting the scratches out?
  10. The White disco is on the definative line but the disco behind is also on the definnative line but is going around the puddle via the well worn rutted "escape route". There are several points on the plain where there are deep puddles and people have gone a safer route and thus caused more ruts. The only way it can be stopped is if the water filled holes are filled with stone and drainage ditches added.
  11. 7 out of the 8 videos from today. The last video i will load tomorrow. 12. The videos are slowly loading. Upto 6 out of 8 now.
  13. Sorry about the scratchy bit mate. I was told it was flailed back at the A354 end but it blatantly wasnt. Fingers crossed the polish with get rid of the scratches. Was a cracking day though.
  14. Some of the pics from todays outing. Was a cracking day for it. Also have some video which is loading at the moment.
  15. One of my bosses lads (4 year old) whilst getting a kebab with his dad saw a dark skinned man in a hoodie who smiled at him and yelled out "Look daddy. Its the cat from Alice in Wonderland"
  16. I prefer my steak mooing on the plate. Basically blue or very rare. People cant understand how i can eat steak that rare. But it has to be fillet steal. I have my sirloin rare same with the rump.
  17. Glad i checked under the bonnet earlier. The air intake pipe wasnt attached in anyway to the snorkel. It was just shoved down between the snorkel and the front bulkhead. Now all attached and siliconed up and checked for water tightness.
  18. Does it still have snow on it? Or has the snow gone and it is still nearly on the deck?
  19. One of our apprentices is having a stacked trailer and truck load of it for his massive (73cm wide hearth) Villager woodburner. He would cut it in the "hanger" with me stacking in the trailer. He said he wants as much as he can get from now until he finishes so the boss has said not a problem. He will burn anything in it from fresh tanalised offcuts, sleeper ends, telegraph pole off cuts, kitchen work top off cuts, etc, etc. He doesn't worry about the resulting chimney fire as the chimney has been lined with fire proof engineering bricks so when it roars into life he just stokes the fire more and more to get the tar burning out of it.
  20. This is the heap of rotten wood from stiles, bridges, gate posts, etc. This is only 6 months worth of timber. We will salvage what we can but what we cant gets slung on a dirty great fire.
  21. Just had it confirmed they have expired. The signs are still up as the RoW dept havent taken them down yet. They are driveable but soggy in places but it has a good flint base along its length so it is just the surface mud which gets chewed up. And we never go off the beaten track unless getting over for bikers or fellow off roaders.
  22. Just finding out if the VTRO (Voluntary Traffic Regulation Order) on the Ox drove is still in place. I think it was closed from first Oct to 31 March but my dad will be passing there possibly tomorrow night in the ambulance so will stop off n find out. I'm a member of the a couple of off roading forums and they are unsure as well. Usually Wilts CC puts up about VTROs on their site but there has been squat all winter.
