Had an apprentice who called in sick saying he had been spewing his ring up all night. Funnily enough we saw him in his local KFC stuffing his face, his face was a picture when we rolled up in the petrol station next door. He was told to have the rest of the week of and told to buck his ideas up.

More pics. Nothing work related yet but will get some tomorrow. Only chipping but got a fair bit to chip. -
Looks like the ground has been raised around the tree and is now suffering. Soon to become firewood i recon.

Love doing a bit of timber work on a Friday. Really happy with how the stile came out as was the first time i put one in to incorporate an access point for a flail for future maintenance. Also got arty with the truck we had today. -

As i am a verge cutter during the summer we tend to get hit by our fair share. It gets worse in the summer and especially around the housing estates. Last year i had a clear visor and a snood protecting my mouth. One trick we did last year was carry a can of bright spray paint (pink worked very well) and every dog egg we either ran over with the mower or nearly strimmed we blasted a big circle round it. One verge we marked out 68 nuggets and it was an area which children play in. Certainly got the message across thats for sure.

We've been having a local tree surgeon down a local stretch of trailway dropping trees for us. One of the trees was a good shout to have down. Not only was it squirrel damaged in the top but the bottom was rotted out. Only a scabby sycamore though so no massive loss. Got two massive ash stools to drop next week and a little oak further up the track and thats it for the winter. -

Not been a good day emotionally for me. It would of been my mates 22nd birthday. Went for a long walk this morning with the boys and had my camera at the ready. Got alot of pictures of tits as well as Robins and Dunnocks. Rest in Peace Joner DJ4 -
Yes you saw right. Surely we dont have the right growing conditions for Leylandii to self seed. What is even more amazing is what it is growing in. Road planings...... Its true it will literally grow anywhere and in any soil ....

Cracking day yesterday. Two gates, corrals and a stile all knocked out in a day. Farmer will be happy, as will the ramblers. -
I did wonder that. We did think about running the hammers so they are on opposite sides to eachother. So the paddles would be on the "North and South" and the Y hammers on "East and West" eyes. All paddles would put extra strain on the clutch due to the weight, and the Y hammers dont leave as fine a cut. We did look at the T hammers but due to the rights of way work it would beat the seven bells out of them before the week is done.

We run a Yanmar deisel BCS 740 WS flail with the standard reversible Y hammers. They have done a summer and are beaten to pieces despite not being abused in any way. Both the working edge and back edge have dinks taken out of them (more so on the back) from where the hammers have hit heavier debris and bent back and connected with the blade behind. The question i am asking is Can you get paddle style hammers (like on trimax flails) to fit the BCS and can you run both Y and paddle hammers on the same drum? As we want the flail to be both used for rights of way work and finer cutting.

The first pic just about summed up Thursday. Raining, nearly every tree getting hung up. Had a better finish to the week with a relaxed Friday. Been out with my camera today in between doing housework. -

Cracking start to the week, cut my thumb on a kitchen sink while clearing out around an old garage. Got an 8 yarder arriving tomorrow morning to put the crap in. Will be making a sawhorse out of old timber ready to cut the lengths into log sized bits for the wood fuelled boiler. Will get it fired up ready too and hopefully keep it going to clear the flue. Spent today with a team of volunteers and apprentices clearing a local pond and putting up phase 1 of the post and rail fencing. Forgot waders but never mind got most of it cleared out. -

20 mpg on short runs and about 30 on long trips. Will be slightly more thirsty when the filters are done. -

Our red beast has got 152,000 on the clock. Still runs like a dream. Rear diff needs replacing as banging like a barn door in a gale lol -

Absolute madness. Spotted this critter out sunbathing yesterday. Not normally seen until April/May and it was a fresh one. -
