  1. Apologies for the delay Mark & Moosie. The mortise & tenon felling cut sequence as promised. Please note; a dead 20ft stick is not ideal for this cut so it went a bit tits up at the end! At least the sequence is pretty clear methinks....
  2. Give Sarah (spoolos) at Treefellers (01244 322328) a ring... They are always looking for quality guys.
  3. Personally, by the time the ladder is off the van & in position, my throwline & Pantin have got me to the height of the triples already. Best practise in the UK is to use ladders solely for access: http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/afag401.pdf (Para 51-55).
  4. Thanks for the replies gents. If you see three noobs at the APF asking daft questions about splitters & processors - that will be us!
  5. Hey Ryan, give Dewi a call at DJ Tree Services, Holywell. He may be able to offer you the odd day.. Good luck. PS Put something on your profile page - the more people know about you, the more they feel they know you....
  6. A mate of mine is looking to buy a processor to tackle the huge pile of timber we produce from tree surgery. As you can imagine, all our timber is of various species, lengths and diameters. Which processor, or type of processor, if any, would you recommend to help us get through all our arisings?
  7. Would like to PM you but your inbox is full!

  8. Let me add: You should hire this bloke... We've worked together many times. He's hard-working, very proficient, relaxed and well-mannered. Plus he's massive & has hands like shovels! Always a pleasure to work with. from me.
  9. Hopefully meeting up with him this week to discuss....

  10. Hey there Apbell

What is it you are clearing out exactly?

    Regards Chris..

  11. Check this guy out Lee. I want his work this side of the Mersey but Liverpool is a bit out of my way...

  12. I got myself a Sirius Multisaver recently. The 2m one. Initially I got it because it was shiny, but now it's my favourite bit of kit. I climb on a Lock-Jack & when chogging down a pole I used to switch to a prussick. It's much easier now with the adjustable integrated prussick to continue using the LJ as I descend. Much less faffing about. Also I've found that I actually use all 3 rings fairly often, having a floating anchor that little bit higher up the tree makes for even less friction - always good with DRT! Great piece of kit IMO. True Tom, you could make one up, but this comes with the CE & EN 795B certification. 13. I've just got myself a Kask - nice comfy helmet. I have a very large head (60cm) I can only just get the chin straps under my ears - there's no way to adjust that part that I can see. Also the clear visor/smoke/mirror is similarly NOT adjustable like the mesh visor is. It virtually rests on my eyeballs! I also have the Petzl Vertex non-Vent with the Sordin - SNR 31 dB muffs. These too caused me issues - the muffs wouldn't stay clamped to my massive head until I'd filed off the two little pegs on the back of the helmet mounts.
  14. Gimme a few days Mark & i'll put up a video - It's the easiest way to explain
  15. That's called a Mortise & Tenon felling cut.. The tree gets 'locked' into the stump due to the wedge shaped piece below the hinge line. You can just see the fibres of the hinge at the top of picture 2 after it has snapped and sat into the stump. Cut at chest height, this tree now forms a very secure bench on which to fell a rack or line of forestry trees.
  16. Not quite what you're expecting here, but technically it's a hinge! With thanks to Phil Dunford:thumbup1:
  17. I carry the 6” Emergency Trauma Dressing "Israeli Bandage" and a roll of Micropore. I hope I never have to use the former, but the latter often comes out... A roll of it will even hold a dodgy chipper chute in place for a day!
  18. The Italians make the best boots.... Go for the Pfanner Zermatt GTX.
  19. I helped a chap from Liverpool fill his car boot with ash logs... He gave me 4 packets of Viagra in return!
  20. Until the end of last year I hadn't practised an aerial rescue for 16years! Then the firm I was with called in Chris Cooper-Abbs who ran a CS38 refresher for us. Boy, things have moved on in a decade and a half! Some of the lads weren't to keen on a whole days course. However, Chris is a top bloke who got everyone enthused - one of the best days of instruction I've had.
  21. I've added a second DMM 34mm Anchor Ring to my bridge. Positives: Easy to rig a second mainline or attach your side strop when topping down. Negatives: It makes a terrible "Look at me - I'm a gear freak" jangling noise when I'm walking on the flat...
