  1. It still has potential to outlive us, looks an ideal tree and location to monolith, perhaps with a small informative sign beside it, along with its replacement... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  2. Should have read the first line - down for the 30% reduction. Seems like it could well be a sensible recommendation... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. Was there no explanatory report accompanying the tomograph, with management recommendations/options? It's impossible to give valid opinions on what to do with this tree based on those pics. What I would say is beech with fungi absolutely are not at the end of their lives. Be a great shame if this tree was felled purely on the basis it has fungi, granted quite a lot of it! At the very least this would make an awesome habitat stem/monolith with great ecological value... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app

    Beer price's

After a birthday gift in March I now brew my own. For the princely sum of about twenty quid I can 40 pints on tap at home. You can get cheaper or more expensive kits, but that's a great pint at a great price. The set up cost isn't too much either, £40-50 will get all you need or around £60 for one with a Woodfordes Wherry kit included. My 'job' for this rainy day... Rhytisma?

Rhytisma acerenium grows only on Acer, specifically sycamore. That looks like it could be a leaf miner... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  6. At height? Around 1.5m Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  7. Nope, only rarely come across them to be honest. At Hatfield, and one area around the south west of Colchester, mostly built on now. Mostly Ganos and fistis low on oak round here... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  8. Diddy little things aren't they! Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  9. Terrible. Surely in a busy place, with witnesses, someone should or could have tackled the offender to the ground... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  10. Look on the consulting arborist society site, or ask Paul Barton on here Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  11. That'd be great, any others in line for the investigative treatment or post failure disection? Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  12. The new CAS TPO course might be a good start, and ask your local TO... Good luck Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  13. Looks like a great opportunity to investigate. Would you agree with the simultaneous white rot? Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  14. Buggered if I know! It does seem odd though, as it is a widespread, easily recognised fungi... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  15. Meripilus it is then. Be good to get a follow up on the management plan, when decided... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  16. Crikey that's a big ask! Can't even tell if it's gilled or pored, so going by host and colour alone, a wild slightly educated guess would be chicken of the woods Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  17. PM sent... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  18. Marnic chainsaw carving (Rusty?) is based in the Hythe, was cleared out a few months ago and not sure if he's up and running again. If I find out his number I'll pm you... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  19. Not sure if this has already been posted http://petzlsolutions.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Zombie-Experience-Web.jpg http://petzlsolutions.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Zombie-Experience-Web.jpg Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  20. I have once a couple of years ago to assist me in assessing the stability of a silver maple which had been deeply trenched around. To be honest it was buggered anyway, and used only to help illustrate this point to those responsible. I couldn't at the time see how to use it to great effect if only say 2 opposite or right angled sides had been trenched, like is seen on roadside verges etc - another arboricultural area for further research! Fungi I.D.

I took the photo to look more like tiered brackets on the stem. But does look like drying merip, doesn't it... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  23. Woolley aphid I'd guess... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  24. Our very own arbtalk fungi guide is a good start. I think to be honest if you are stumping up money for the pti, to help you pass and help in future, find the funds for a few good books - Principles of Tree Hazard Assessment and Management, Diagnosis of Ill Health in Trees, something like the AA Fungi Guide, and either the VTA Handbook or the Body Language of Trees could be considered as essential for inspection/surveying as chainsaws are for tree surgery. Good luck... Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
  25. There's a lantra course for wire fencing? Whatever next!? Sent from my GT-I9100 using Arbtalk mobile app
