  1. Great shot there kveldsanger, and thanks for the pm'd offer. I'm not often down your way but will keep it in mind. On the subject of this thread a little birdy tells me Mrs Boddy says the Laetiporus found on yew is not sulphureus, and is yet to be named. Tree fungi interactions are still so little understood...
  2. Cheers fellas. Tutor is Dave, had Andy for the tech cert a few years ago...
  3. First off thanks to all who helped me make the decision to go for it, Gary, Chris and Mr Gale especially. So, who's starting the level 6 at Barcham tomorrow? I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous or excited! Kev...
  4. A.f is quite pale, on my phone the pics look pink tinged and the brackets look old (i can also only view the first two). I claim no certainty!
  5. To anyone who cares sorry I've not been on for a while, I've been very busy with moving house and general 'life things' (and yes, I know arbtalk should be a priority!). A quick look shows some good interesting topics since I was last on Now, who does and who doesn't include RPAs on their TPPs? I've just been requested by a neighbouring lpa to add to my TPP before they'll approve it - even though it was all shown and work within RPAs justified and approved in the AIA! I feel it isn't necessary a lot of the time and and that it clutters the drawing for those on the ground (hopefully) following it. Thoughts...
  6. Anyone's experiences... Please see here - http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/97157-edfirst-anyone-used-them.html
  7. Here we go, check out this blog post on treelife's site... https://treelifeac.wordpress.com/2016/02/05/a-windy-blog-2016/
  8. Cost isn't quite as bad as I thought then, cheers. [email protected] I'll look forward to it! Does sound like a lot of work on top of 'proper work' and home life! I do have a lot of the big books and AA journal membership, which is a plus. Critical evaluation writing is a skill I guess I'll need to pick up along the way. Thanks for all the replies so far
  9. From their website: Owing to recently posed questions concerning the longevity or our delivery of the ABC level 6 diploma in arboriculture Tree Life would like to *clarify the situation. Tree Life hopes that delivery of this fine qualification will continue from the centre at a range of venues. However, regrettably this year [2015] will be the last intake of students that will come under the direct tutorship of Dave and Andy. Both of us have served arboriculture for approx. 40 years each and all good things must come to an end. The last intake will commence studies this October*[2015] and are assured of our commitment for a five year period.
  10. It means more than any other post here so far! I also see that this current year is the last Dave and Andy will teach, I wonder who will step in? How much more of the level 4 do you have, and who are you with? I had Andy for the tech cert, top teacher...
  11. Can anyone doing/done the l6 through treelife (at a venue, or by treemail) please let me know the total cost incurred? I'm trying to work out if it's financially viable for me at the moment. Also, if any kind soul wouldn't mind sending me a sample of what work a completed module entails, I'd be very grateful - I've not done any quals in the new format, and never was very great with coursework, preferring to just study and do an exam. I'm hoping it won't scare me off! Many thanks in advance, Kev...
  12. Surely training to enable you to carry out your job/cpd is a business expense?! Keep us posted please...
  13. Give treelife an email, I reckon they'll sort you out...
  14. Mileage around 110,000, I've had it a year and a half and do mostly 10-20 mile runs every other day, with a good motorway run once or twice a month. Last proper service was about 7-10,000 miles ago (which reminds me the front brakes need doing before its mot in the summer). Sounds expensive! Cheers everyone for the advice, much appreciated
  15. Fair enough! I've never been up when it's that bad
  16. The oil does look fairly nasty, probably overdue a service. I'll try an oil and filter, plugs etc change and see how it goes. If no change I'll pop it down the garage. Cheers all
  17. Sure people can and do get in trouble on any route up Snowdon, but it is mostly just a long steep walk! As a kid (10ish) we'd go up any route in a t shirt and trainers on a whim, often taking the dogs with us. Crib Gogh is a about the only one we'd not do in icy weather. I used to love visiting family up there, haven't been up snowdon for years now though. Go for it, use common sense and turn back if need be. You can always try another route the next day. You will get wet, you will get cold, but the local pubs have good fires
  18. Hi all, hopefully an easy one for someone! My family-mobile (2001 Seat Alhambra, 1.8 petrol) has developed an issue. The first cold start of the day takes a fair bit of ignition, then when I stop turning the key the oil (oil pressue?) light on the dash flashes and beeps. Then the engines starts next turn of the key, and is fine when warm. Oil was fairly low so I topped it up, but it's no better. What could it be, and should I be just getting it to the local garage?! Cheers...
  19. I'm finding the alt berg ones pretty good...

    Lamb

Slow cooked stew with plenty of root veg, some pearl barley and herby dumplings. Easy, delicious, seasonal... Ask butcher for trimmed and ready to go sewing steak. In a casserole dish fry a couple of crushed garlic cloves and a big onion chopped chunky over a low heat in veg oil. Toss the meat in plain flour to coat it, fry that till its browned. Add half pint of stout or a 1/4 pint red wine and bring to a boil. Add a pint or two of water with a stock cube in, chuck in a handful of pearl barley. Chuck the lot in the oven with lid on, on about gas mark 2 or 3 for 2 or 3 hours. Then chuck in chunky chopped root veg, all different sorts - swede, spud, turnip, carrot, etc. Stir it up. Leave another 2 or 3 hours. Half hour before serving make up some suet dumplings with lots of fresh chopped rosemary. Follow packet instructions, just mix with flour salt and water, easy... throw em on top of the stew with the lid on for 30mins. Enjoy, then make your move...
  21. On Mersea island where I live there are no grey, a couple of years ago they introduced reds. So far, it seems they are starting to breed, so a success...
  22. Anyone into making their own bread? After 'farming' yeast for beer for a while now I started in bread a few months ago, it's quite addictive! After a week of waiting for my starter to get going, I'm just now waiting for my first sourdough loaf to prove...
