  1. Is it the only book on statics? It's not something I have ever really looked into, but I'm getting curious...
  2. Ooh, what is it? I do kit beers, and the occasional wine kit too. Got a porter and American hopped ipa in barrels at the moment. Would love to have a go at all grain brewing, or wine from gathered fruits, but the all grain set up is expensive and I haven't wanted bad enough to look into fruit wines!
  3. It's great isn't it. Knocked up a sourdough foccaccia this morning, throw some toppings on when I get back this afternoon and into the oven it'll go
  4. Fantastic, have to do that with the kids. Cheers...
  5. Is it made of red Leicester? Not sure I'd want a cheesy helmet...
  6. Looks great for a first attempt at bread, nice one! I've been baking yeasty things for about 6 years now, and haven't had to buy any bread in about 4. It's so easy to fit in with whatever your schedule is and tastes much nicer than bland shop bought stuff. Homemade butter though, very impressive - howdya do that then?
  7. p.s. can you tell that part of my background is design engineering... ... Yes! I'm having trouble visualising this to be honest. But thank you for trying nonetheless. If I get a chance later I'll have a measure up and post a pic of one in pieces, in case it helps. I really don't want to be spending a total of almost £400 to get four almost silent running wheels with bearings that may last a good while, or a total of almost £150 for 'heavy duty' non bearing ones which may well wear out quickly anyway. So spending £15/20 a wheel making what I have quiet and long lasting might be worthwhile. The noise is driving me mad! Once they start to wear and rattle you can barely have a conversation in the same room...
  8. ... small animal wheel? Another odd request! I currently have in my house 4 running wheels, for lots of degus. They are noisy, and last a couple of months before starting to wear out and break completely by 4-6 months. And at £20 each I'm fed up with them! You can get 'better' ones for £30, £90ish for solid ones which run on bearings. I am wondering if I can retrofit an axle using a bearing to the existing plastic wheel. The wheel (a large Savic) is 28cm diameter and about 9-10cm deep. It already has a moulded 'sleeve' in the centre with 20-25mm ish diameter hole. It needs to bolt through a 12mm thick cage wall, or through a mesh side. Any suggestions how or if this may be possible cheaply using off the shelf items? I have a good bearing supplier near me, or Internet delivery. I was thinking maybe a suitable sized needle bearing to sleeve the bolt which slides through the centre of the wheel. Any issues with this or better suggests most appreciated! Cheers...

    Gold Torc

Wow, lucky guy! I was under the impression that an archaeological / historical artifact like that was automatically property of someone else somehow, and that the finder received nothing more than their name to the find. Seems odd now I think about. I suppose he could have just melted it down and put it under his mattress for a rainy day!
  10. Nearly ten years on, has he run? Hope not... PS, I vote this 'most random very old thread revival'!
  11. Happy ending it seems, final bill paid on time with thanks TO agreed to felling and replanting with more suitable species a few meters away (better long term location). Cheers...
  12. Cheers, the surrounding location looks nice too...
  13. Check the conditions on the approval, if in doubt check with the la...
  14. I've never come across any gano fruiting at that sort of height. Does the circle show the location, or is it a hoola hoop?
  15. Good thread. Kveld, do you carry out your own microscopy now?

    Rowan tree

Whenever I've seen rowan die with bark peeling that that, honey fungus rhizomorphs are usually in soil around the roots, and fruiting the next autumn or a few years later. Not sure if the honey is the cause of death, or taking advantage of the already stressed tree though...

  20. And make me a sandwich woman, or I'll be whipping me some pussy! Agree with your last para though
  21. Yep, I went (on recommendation) with a local chartered accountant, and my 2nd and 3rd years trading together came to under £400, and saved me endless hours struggling to do it myself!
  22. This. I think there may be something along the lines the op is thinking, but I am far from an accountant!
