  1. More likely resinaceum on the oak? Pop looks interesting, can't make it out in the shots, was the decay central? Windy up there by any chance...
  2. Classic
  3. Have you checked the switch contact, may be dirty or corroded?
  4. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/9532631/How-to-make-a-cheap-violin-sound-like-a-Stradivarius.html
  5. Circumference divided by 3.14 will give the diameter. Or look at buying a diameter/dbh tape to make it a little easier. Then that x12 is the rpa radius from the center of the tree, eg a 1.5m diameter tree would the rpa radius - 75cm from the tree surface. Does that make sense written down? Multiple stem trees get interesting, you have access to the bs presumably? Can your tutor help clear things up?
  6. Hmm, what to say? You have been a valuable asset to arbtalk, I and many others have learnt a lot from you. It will be a real shame if you leave for good. I hope its not the argumentative few who have chipped away at you repeatedly that make you feel your time here is over. Your enthusiasm is infectious, some take offence to that for some reason. Perhaps in time you will reconsider not returning, many lurkers as well as those that reply will have gained a new direction in their arb careers after reading some of your posts and threads. I hope you return at least to read this, and the many similar posts Im sure will follow. Don't be a stranger...

  10. Fantastic
  11. Very nicely done
  12. Call to the LA is in order methinks...
  13. Seems to be, may just be that I am looking for it now though...
  14. I can see the theory, but an odd way in the long term to tag the trees on this site...
  15. Viburnum (tinus?)
  16. Wow. Properly big, sorry for doubting you!
  17. Here...
  18. Or that some camera focus/perspective trickery hasn't been employed? Like these orchid flowers Im holding, which are larger than my hands. Honestly.....
  19. How soon do you need it? I think there is a copy in Hamadryads book club. Also (AA Techy might confirm) I think I read the AA have just acquired the rights to print this book and the others in the series. Don't know how long that will take if correct though...
  20. Place a leaf guard over the gutter! Chicken wire works well and can bday placed outbof site. Problem solved, tree left as is to avoid endless cost with cyclical re-pruning
  21. I believe it is a lapsed pollard. And had some reduction in the past, elder removed from the pollard head this last year and bats roosting under dead bark, apparently. I may jump up and have a look next time
  22. That sir, is a spectacular tree! Squamosus?
  23. I pass it the second Tuesday of each month at the moment. Can I ask why when the leaves have gone? And yes, I will be getting monthly shots
  24. I noticed a little bulb one month ago at the base of this oak, here it is with a fine addition of an unexpected Leati. The bulb turned out to be a little resinaceum. The owners were a breath of fresh air. After coming out to make sure I wasnt damaging their 'pretty mushrooms' I left happy to have chatted and they were happy to know what they where I'm suprised the chicken hadnt been knocked off as the road is used as a school run!
