  1. There was a picture of one on a swb fourtrak or jeep on here a while back, looked like a good set up. Perhaps some clever person can put a link up? seem to remember it was sign writen " firewood man"? Good luck, and post a photo to inspire us all once you have it installed.
  2. then theres a good chance it will rob some nitro, being that its used as compost
  3. I like the magazine, my wife purchased my subscription for my christmas present, and enjoy recieving it every month. I do feel that the FJ and EA could benefit from some more reviews of a wide ranging line-up of kit. I would like to offer my services of reviewing any kit you can put my way, for example the new breed of chainsaws could do with a fair test for the benefit of your readers.
  4. White finger would as the name sujests, show as white tips and blotches on the fingers, tingleing sensation like pins and needles, worse in the cold. I'm 29, been doing forestry/ estate work since I was 14. My hands tingle most days and worse in the cold. Using old strimmers, and chainsaws a lot of that time has taken its effect. I love what I do so will live with it, but if your starting out in the bussiness and feeling it allready then you should think about your choice of career. Speak to your doctor and get some advice, keep your hands warm- it seems to help, check the AV on your saw.... just because it has av, doesn't make it vibe proof. Newer saws are getting better and the models with heated handles are a help. keep the chain sharp, and top up the fuel and oil as often as you can- it soaks up a little vibe IMO. People will tell you its part of the job and to man up, but imagine what your mitts will feel like when your 60?
  5. It makes good humus in our heavy clay, so rotting down isn't that important. All the nitrogen in the chickens do dah, should counter that which is robbed as the wood chip decays, pumpkins seem to like it!
  6. Thanks Steve, Had second thoughts about posting my mug, so settled for the last artists impression crimewatch ran on me! Keep up the good work Sir!
  7. I have used it for the last 7 years with no problems, makes nice addition to the compost heap once "befouled". I prefer the ribbons from ripping with a sharp chain!
  8. Im a complete idiot when it comes to posting photos etc. Can anyone help me to get my profile picture to appear on my posts? Also when posting a photo on a thread, when i tried it last night it just put a link to the url, how do i get the picky up likr you guys do?
  9. No regs as such, just watch the pre war trees. I have encountered shrapnel in many a tree here! also rocks up in forks, probably blown up by some bomb, makes life fun!
  10. Is that design c? sounds like a good deal for des' a. so c would be a real bargain
  11. I have heard of back handers when it comes to officials but if the inspector insists on the above you should call for help, remember harrasment in the work place shouldn't be tollerated.
  12. What a great idea! I have been wanting a setup like this for ages. will start saving the pennies. Well done!
  13. Have to agree, if your starting out and will be running just one saw go for the tried and true 346xp, you will have enough on your plate to be test piloting a new saw. Its like when you had to really drive a car, kids today cant drive for s**t. same with saws, when you progress to a 390xp? and the carb needs a tickle, will you reach for your ipod, or do it the old way? 550 is a great saw, but if i had to rely on just one saw for the next 12 months, 346xpg.

  17. Here is a picky of the set up for breffni I'm a noob to the dynamic climbing system so forgive the basic nature of the thread. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/members/normandylumberjack-albums-work-picture5239-snb22988.jpg
  18. I see, will leave the gaffa tape where it belongs! Will post a photo soon!
  19. Thanks for that, good tip too. Getting the gaffa tape from the glovebox now!
  20. Had a go at a low cost, low skill friction saver. I took a lyon 18mm webbing strap tied a dmm ring in one end with a larks' and fixed a revolver to the other. Is this a safe set up? It seems to work well in a dynamic setup. I will be purchaseing a proper one at some point soon, but wonder if i should continue with this set up for the moment?
  21. Had a bit more of a play today, and found that using a self locking footloop helped tend the slack and also shared the load between arms and legs. will try a pantin-m-bob as i think that would self advance better. Finding the trouble with low and slow is there aint a lot of rope below to add weight.
  22. How many top wraps and cross-overs did you tie in it and how long was bottom section? I use 4 top wraps and 2 cross-overs and from the bottom karabiner to the top of the prussik its about 10". Some people use 3 top wraps, some 5, and have it shorter or longer with more crosses. I went with 4 wraps and 2 cross overs, I think that when it opened on the ascent i failed to re set it. I later tried a shwabish prussik and found it a lot more forgiveing, low and slow is what I'm doing, and will be until i know the system up and down.
  23. Hi there, I'm trying different methods out to find which i like, and have been trying the friction climber rig today. I found the VT to not be very grippy when advanceing, and had a uick trip to the deck. I found the swabish prussik to be much easier, is this down to rope choice, 13mm marlow geko+ 8mm ocean e2e, or me being a noob and not practicing the knot better? Also can the slack be better tended, as it seems to bunch up.
  24. Makes sense on a big expensive bar, less so on a 25". From memory stihl do 2 sizes of nose on the rollo e, the larger one better suits monster saws!
  25. They should get oxygen masks and parachutes as PPE! And the groundies should get umbrellas for the falling brown stuff, you gotta be brave to do that!
