    If anyone is struggling to sell good size hardwood logs near me I pay good prices for: Ash, Elm, Sycamore, Walnut, Yew, and even Alder and Birch. The only hardwoods I really don't want are Poplar and Willow, and I do have plenty of Oak at the moment. Sycamore and Ash I am especially low on, so any stems at least 8 foot long and 18 inches diameter give me a call and I will pay around £70 per ton if you will deliver them to me. PM me or ring 01633 400720 during business hours. I will also buy a mixed load which includes firewood size logs and milling size logs, but I pay a bit less for that!

    I like the look of some of those elm butts. Anybody got any nice ones for sale without the rot going up the middle? If so I may pay good money for them.... I took delivery of 30 tons of nice chestnut butts today, but I always need oak and elm.

    Hi, did you get any information on registering a truck as agricultural? It seems to be a very difficult thing to get any info on. I have more or less given up and am looking out for a truck that is already ag registered to avoid the hassle and risk of failure! Gavin

    Hi Lindisfarnecharcoal, that's fine, I have had some helpful replies, and maybe one or two leads. The questions about red diesel on the road are interesting ones and seem to keep coming up. I recently bought a book entitled "Agricultural Vehicles on the Road" by Mike Braithwaite, who apparently is the UK's leading expert on the matter. I haven't read it all yet, but as far as I can see you can only use red on the road up to a maximum of 1 mile when travelling between two pieces of land owned (or rented) by you or your employer. Now I have asked a few farmers about this, and frankly it is nonsense to suggest they even come close to complying, and everyone I ask tells me a different story. I assume that if I buy an ag registered 4X4 truck this rule will apply to me (which is fine), but would anyone like to correct me on this?

    Thanks for the replies, I do need a lorry rather than a Land Rover size vehicle, but good luck with selling the disco. I also did spot the bedford advertised in classifieds, but that sold a few weeks ago. I will be selling my old Bedford MK when I find a replacement, but that needs quite a bit of work, and is not ag registered. Will be a great source of parts for someone though. Cab is rotten, engine not the best, but everything still works....

    Hi, yes may be interested in big cedar, but probably only if I can tie it in with a collection of a load of logs. Can you get me a pic or two, and rough dimensions? Also what is the access and what chance that there could be nails in the trunk? Gavin

    Is anyone selling their ag registered 4x4 truck? I need something with a carrying capacity of 4 tons or so, possibly one of the bedfords, but preferably something a bit more up to date and easier to drive. If it has a meaty crane fitted that is great, but if not I will get one fitted. I have maybe £4000 to £6000 to spend. I understand the Layland Daf army trucks are good, but they never seem to be ag registered. I will need it to do road speeds occasionally, so tractors are out. Any offers?

    Hi, my details are 01633 412554 or 07977 909720. I would pay around £400 - £450 for the log you describe if it is a nice one. Distance could be an issue, but if you have a few maybe we could put together a load for a timber lorry to keep transport costs down. Also of course access could be important.     Hi guys I am a new member, and I want to see if anyone has good size oak logs they want to sell for a good price. I don't mean firewood type money but a decent price for decent logs for milling. I have a mobile sawmill and I am always looking for good oak logs, but also walnut, cedar of labanon, and maybe others. I really only like logs at least 18" diameter at the mid point, but I don't mind a few knots or bends. I am sure plenty of you guys must have logs too good to chop up that you would like to get some cash for? I am in South East Wales, and can collect within the area, or if you have a few I can arrange for a professional haulier to get them for me. Let me know what you have.
