  1. Bought a Sthil watch at the Trade Fair last year. £50 no complaints so far.
  2. Forget the tirfor approach. Get your self one of these babies. Igland 9 t Used it yesterday to take out a hung up Ash from a Veteran Oak. Tirors definately have their place though, used one the previous day to get a grassed wheeled tractor up a steep bank.
  3. With your 15 + of pure muscle, no wonder the Mewp toppled .
  4. Not quite as lardyarsed as Dean yet, but well on the way. I'm generally a big time number 1, ( not always hot though) then nil by mouth till the evening. If I was still climbing day in day out, then this would obviously be different. Little and often should be the preferred way to go, Keep up those energy levels with regular boosts. Thats my opinion, for all that it's worth. .
  5. Yes Christopher, you must keep up with your house keeping you naughty batty boy
  6. John, the gun is used to stretch small rubber pipe sections on to ropes/carabiners to stop slippage/movement. I'm sure Nod will have some in stock at the trade fair. Also used in the subtle art of castration, I believe.
  7. Good ole Quercus robur, OM Smells like teen Spirit We got a great little cottage industry going here, Two hundred years to grow, couple of hours of mucking about with a saw to produce the finished article. We take on commisions. Trouble is, were running out of decent size old oaks to fell. .

  14. So many courses so little money. It's always difficult to assess which ones to juimp on. This looks potentionaly like GVFM interms of how often people rave about it. Many thanks Bundle. .
  15. Substitute Speed........................ for SAFE
  16. All reasoned and fair points again Huck, but what is your (and any one elses) opinion on the below part of my original quote. IMO and experience, the working environment is far safer whilst rigging dead trees from a platform, due to the facts that you can evacuate the cutting zone easier and that you can rig to the exact point required, something not always possible from rope access. FTR I agree with this point entirely Plus climbing is fun, humping logs ain't
  17. Shrub beds, horse rides, local police stable, Tree planting & Veteran Tree mulch. Me allotment as well.
  18. Be keen to hear feedback on the course Bundle. How much is it btw ?
  19. Nothing Specific in my Denka manual on wind speed. I try to stick to the below ; 2. Demonstrate knowledge of conditions when the platform should not be raised Weather conditions unsuitable: - High wind - Poor visibility - Electrical storms Taken from http://www.nptc.org.uk/assessment-schedules/ LEVEL 2 CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCE IN THE SAFE USE AND OPERATION OF MOBILE ELEVATED WORK PLATFORMS ASSESSMENT SCHEDULE Ooh, I'm such a big girls blouse
  20. I found their last seminar on Trees and Roots very informative. Some of you may benefit from attending. Worth going just for the location - Great Trees Managing People and Trees: Priorities, Compromises and Differences Woburn Abbey 25th June 2008 Subject The seminar will provide important information to anyone who has responsibility for or has practical involvement in the care and maintenance of trees in: highways, parks, or woodlands with a high degree of public access. When the activities of people come into close contact with trees there is often a perception of negative issues that affect both trees and people. These are rarely balanced with the positive benefits that can be gained. Worries over the damage trees might cause can often be over emphasised and human activities are sometimes given an over inflated priority. This seminar will examine: practical methodologies to avoid damage to trees; methods for assessing and reducing risk from trees and the need for tree work; and balancing risk against heritage and landscape value. Speakers Brian Crane, Avenue management. Dr Marcus Bellett-Travers, Assessment of linear highway features.. Andrew Cowan, Tree roots and people. Ted Green (TBC) The heritage value of trees, a powerful tool.
