  1. Lets face it, we have all had some/lots of contact with airbourne dust/wood chip, to some degree or other, no matter how long we've been in the game. I am assuming that no one regularly uses face masks whilst Chipping/Cutting.........................or do you? I'm trying to look at this from both LA and commercial, cause we are all in the same boat, with regards to exposure, whether or not you write and stick to R/A or not. I don't know of any research in to the toxicology of contaminated wood chip/dust....................anyone? Is anyone concerned as to the long term negative health aspects we are potentially exposing ourselves to? Or should we all take up/restart smoking, to give our lungs a good thick coat of tar to ward off any nasty cancerous wood particles Picture courtesy of Layton Thompson
  2. Some may be aware and have read, some may not. A little late in posting but still current. Interesting points to consider/debate? http://www.hse.gov.uk/agriculture/pdf/twnewsjune08.pdf .
  3. Had to know what was going on underneath so near to target. It's somehow retrenching down through the ivy canopy. So stripped completely, guys over dead wooded - 'understatement' But have left to see what, if any regrowth is facilitated, or whether over exposure to temp change/sunlight will do for the old girl good an propper. .
  4. Lets post what you've seen. Saw this yesterday travelling between jobs. Cultivar 'Frisia' and parent Robinia psuedoacacia. Looks to me as if the rootstock has overtaken the cultivar. Unsure as to why, unknown history. .
  5. Gotta agree with ya compadre. But someone probably condemmed it based on the Fb's .
  6. Careful you don't dip the end of your rope in the icy Braan, below the big Dougie just down from Ossian's Hall. Been there a couple of times in the afternoons following Hogmonay. No fit state to even consider an ascent .
  7. I haven't really been following this thread John, but there appears to be young fruiting bodies protruding between the butresses of the first vid Pete posted above at approx 3:25 mins. Possibly Gano sp or Innonotus dryadeus? Maybe basal decay has been identified. Agreed, shame to lose such a cracking Oak .
  8. These are from the Beech mentioned by Rebecca. (Not sure if you had all these Bec) First is from '99 Second and third are from Sep '04, I understand, and last two are from last week .
  9. Memories of turning The Royal Albert Hall in to a mosh pit back in 94. "Blister in the sun" gets me all pimply. [ame]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra8VTlXVqUQ[/ame] .
  10. 32 members on line this Sunday morning at 0740. Guess I'm not the only one who forgot the time change last night.......doh Currently switching bitwixt "the Talk" and Ratatouille with the boys. The better 'alfs probably got at least another couple of hours of r&r to go. .
  11. I beg to differ Jason. Although not possessing an encyclopeadic knowledge on the subject, I have come across a wealth of annual statistical annalysis compiled by the HSE. R.I.D.D.O.R is becoming particularly robust, possibly not comprehensive admittedly, I'd imagine a fair number of occurances get under the radar. But stats are being recorded, and are industry specific. Quote "...the HSE consider climbing Arborists to run an annual risk of 1/120 of serious injury" In bold as this fact needs to be absorbed by us all, green or hardened. .
  12. Deans more an over and over type of guy, you not seen 'is old avatar? Sorry D, couldn't resist. .
  13. Maybe in my next life [ame]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=kCJYrASzTFo&feature=related[/ame] .
  14. Like the second one particularly, how long Bob ? .
  15. Have got the H50 Cyber Shot meself. Had it a month or so, must of taken hundreds of shots so far. Went and clattered it on the blinkin mewp cage yesterday Can stilll use it, but the retracting LCD screen is mullered. Gonna try and send it back to Sony for repair. Not holding out for warranty though .
  16. I doth me cap to ya cap'n. Can't say I've ever had a mewp in such an extreme environment. Few very tight set ups and access, but that's about it. .
  17. Alright John, yeah we work the accumulated time off, but work 39, paid 38. Find it hard to fit the time off, in covering the shortfalls within the team. Must be crazy .
  18. Saw this ivy covered hedgerow Oak, on the way home from work this evening. Interesting that the successional growth smothering the canopy has not particularly got hold of the scafold on the northern side of the tree. Always thought Ivy would grow in partially shaded environment .
  19. Pretty much the same as John.......... 'old on a mo........we don't finish at 3.45, it's 4.30 mon - thurs, 3.30, on friday for us. What hours per week do you do John? Lots of Judges and the like round my manor, no C saws ripped in anger to at least 8.30 .
  20. Even if it was Carla Sarkozy ? Think of all the political gossip you could chat about .
  21. Acer and Liquidamber on the way home this evening .
  22. There's me thinking the strange places thing had something to do with Hampstead Heath. Cause that is one mightiliy strange place, you should see some of dem crazy tings they do down there. Guess you meant sommit more down these lines though .
  23. Really nice shots Steve, what's your hardware? Last one could be Ganoderma applanatum, basing this on host being Beech? and fruiting body appearing to be on disfunctional heart wood. .
