1. Sizeable pop limb socket failure over the weekend above a busy public footpath. .
2. Mycorrhizal Amanita rubescens (the blusher) possibly fruiting where the mycelium is collecting the water run off from the bark. .
3. Long time colonisation of Inonotus hispidus on weeping ash. Canopy gets a hair cut every now and again. .
4. Spindle shank (Collybia fusipes) here fruiting on the buttresses of this sessile oak and not from the sinuses from between the buttressss. Canopy still full of vigour, though just shed a large lower lateral branch. .
5. From my experience I have found that association not as significant as that of P. fraxinea and ash, although your example (due to the size of fruitbodies) does look like a long term colonisation. Have you carried out any decay mapping? .
6. Fruiting development of various species over the last couple of days. Volveriella bombycina, the silky rosegill Ganoderma resinaceum Pleurotus ostreatus Inonotus hispidus .
7. Need to know if the pancake has gills or pores. If pores, then it's likely to be dryads saddle, if gills then something else. .
8. Nice composition John, is it holly ? .
9. Surprised that hadn't already split apart ! Looked an interesting dismantle .
10. Did it look like this by any chance? Laetiporus sulphureus - Chicken of the wood/Sulphur Polypore - David Humphries’s Fungi Directory - Arbtalk.co.uk | Discussion Forum for Arborists .
11. Although only a short chip up of some storm damaged willow from last week, this job became a bit of a nightmare as in the interim a near by Poplar spouted out its annual fluff and settled in to the stacked willow. My bad for not having masks at hand in the Landy, so we had to suffer a mini coughathon. .
12. So Oliver Cromwell was obviously an early practitioner of the pulling test as can be witnessed here when he was 'etched' whilst evaluating the Boscobel Oak. Though his early attempts may have been slightly floored, the lack of access to elastometer and inclinometers (which wouldn't have been invented for another 300 years or so) meant that the chaps he got to cut in to the trunk to assess the wood fibres under load may have actually done more harm than good. I guess these ground breaking tree assessments had to start somewhere .
13. Not something I've been involved with Kev, but I saw a presentation on research here in the UK and Germany a few years ago on radio tracking males to monitor their migration patterns. https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Ulrich_Sinsch/publication/229790333_Radio-telemetric_monitoring_of_dispersing_stag_beetles_Implications_for_conservation/links/5592afa808ae1e9cb4297048/Radio-telemetric-monitoring-of-dispersing-stag-beetles-Implications-for-conservation.pdf . .
14. Concur with Kev, that they are pedominantly in the south east with London being a bit of a hotspot. I have concerns that Cyberdine Systems have been quietly creating a new series T-800 .
15. Good move by the AA and yes, very long over due, but better late than never, well done. Nice to see our very own Steve Bullman on page 14 receiving the 2013 AA Award in recognition of Arbtalk .
16. Not sure why it won't work for you Kev, it's just a YouTube link. There's another link to it from within this Guardian piece https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/jun/10/hampstead-hermit-harry-hallowes-mystery-diane-keaton-brendan-gleeson .
17. Film of Harry's life is now coming out, here's the trailer. [ame] [/ame] .
18. Any shots of the gills/pores? If on oak it's likely to be Daedalea quercina, the oak mazegill. .
19. Tidy work Johny, was that an Eruv ? .
