  2. What a god awful noise .
  3. No gratuitous climbing or cutting here I'm afraid, some sounding and a couple of Resistographs taken up on the upper trunk. Posted it already but was buried in the tree health care forum [ame] [/ame] .
  4. I'll offer Psuedotrametes gibbosa as a starter for ten..... any one care to up the ante? .
  5. Fine looking tree from the photos, how much cabling is there up in the canopy? How long has it been installed? .
  6. What a great looking list it is too. Great work Mr B .
  7. Looks like a Phellinus sp to me Guy .
  8. That's good news indeed Craig Have/will you be sending a letter to the LTOA? I know they would be interested in having a stand. .
  9. Sorry Craig, being a bit dense here. Are you saying there will be an (ISA) event at Capel next year? Cheers David .
  10. Here, an oak within a Victorian park in north London. Relatively high target frequency, particularly in the spring & summer months. Alerted to a small hanging branch which was a result of the high winds during late October. Evidence of previous storm damage within the canopy (including the 1987 hurricane) and it has been subject to a lightning strike at some point in the last 10 years. On closer look we noted a young forming fruiting body on the west side of the trunk at approximately 8 meters. As a result of the climbing inspection, the tree will be scheduled for a small reduction (within 12 months) by a couple meters in height, to reduce the sail. Click on the link if you'd like to see the inspection and Resistographs....... [ame] [/ame] .
  11. Fine thread idea Jules We had a play for a short while at work looking at pores etc, but never took it particularly seriously or any further. Send all our lab stuff off to the Jodrell lab at Kew http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/ecology/29030-towards-next-level.html .
  12. I would imagine the training program in Sweden will be in Swedish Guy, but Vikki Bengstsson, who will no doubt be involved speaks both Swedish & English I'm sure she would be happy to answer any queries [email protected] .
  13. They stain ya hands something rotten, but oh so sweet .
  14. one of my favourites is the Mulberry, gnarly old things with great depth of character and fantastic fruit. We're pretty privilaged to look after the trees at The museum of Keats down in Hampstead. That one went over many decades ago & now sits on brick pillars, its vitality is strong and looks set for a good while yet. .
  15. Literally just down the road from me, I'd be keen on a visit if you could get me in also ? Inspection/feasibility report from Civic Trees http://plan.scambs.gov.uk/swiftlg/MediaTemp/1128767-457029.pdf .
  16. Great find Paul Really well put together documentry of the prep & lift. Agree, would have been interesting to have seen the replant whole exercise must of cost a kings ransome. Some collective detective work in order me thinks .
  17. Calendar of training events....... Vetree - Veteran Tree Network .
  18. Hmmm, odd that there's such a deafing hush of response to an area that usually provokes warm debate. I'm sure myself & the HH team would be happy to assist in the review process where we can. Lets hope others step up also Come on Arbtalkers this is 'your' oportunity to get involved with 'our' industry in a process that is likely to effect the majority of us in one way or another. .
  19. Hi Paul any interest expressed via Pm's ? .
  20. was it you two at it again Sperm whale explodes as man tries to open stomach - video | World news | theguardian.com .
  21. I think its a really well put together document that's been set out clearly & offers a proportionate & balanced approach to what is a significant urban issue. helps that there's some nice pictures & tables to look at, eh Dean .
  22. In the shot above there is a sleeve which is then filled with loose shingle, I guess this is a way to control the risk of the bonded resin from ring barking the stem. Like most things, its down to the spec of installation, maintenance (weed killing etc....) .
  23. The London Tree Officers Association have just released a guidance document on managing Massaria Downloads | Massaria Disease of Plane . Managing_Massaria[1].pdf
  24. Management guidance from the LTOA has now been released. Downloads | Massaria Disease of Plane . Managing_Massaria[1].pdf
