  1. Cheers for the reply, I will be reading the "Updated Field Guide for visual Tree Assessment" in the next few weeks. I agree, there is alot of useful information and pictures in all the books but I could do with a scanner!
  2. Would anyone be able to help me out with my RFS assigment? I've been asked to define a number of terms, "Ribs" being one. I have used included bark and "V" union pictures to death and i think my lecturer might die if I show her anymore .. so if anyone has any nice picture of a longitudinal rib foirmation on a stem or branch that would be a great help! thanks in advance, Gareth.... or a web address with some on would be good! ive been trawling for a while now!
  3. duct tape is pretty quick..
  4. 3 words of wisdom!
  5. Thanks for the replies.. He is smart (although won't move to a more conventional harness) and would not get it done unless weaver could do it. Was yours a do it yourself job mike or company? Cheers for the concern Nigel but i don't modify my kit! It's a work friend .. This was just a general interest thread. A short prussik would do it to be honest
  6. A friend at work uses one of these leather creations but wants to get the bridge shortened... i tried to convince him to try out a new harness with an adjustable bridge but doesnt wanna hear it! it looks fairly simple... just pop the two rivets off and re rivet on each side a little bit further along... has any body attempted this? or know of a company that can do it to a safe work standard?? for some strange reason we all think it should be done proffesionally cheers, Gareth
  7. ahh yes i do agree! the loop under the knee is my favourite.... but if it could! batman himself would envy the retractability of the device and dyson would be asking for a cut.
  8. waheeey that things pretty neat! a bit out there! and a sure way of getting out of doing the hoovering... is it strong enough to pull it through the friction knot? or can it only take the loose end? Cheers, Gareth
  9. good vid!... my only issue is with the through bolt. Cobra bracing should be used if possible as it does not open the tree to infection. cheers for posting.
  10. surprised they made it that far
  11. Hey, i was running the same set up... xtc with a couple of loops a little while back. i started using a VT hitchclimber set up with Ocean polyester friction cord on it and it was really nice.. self tends well and its still a big rope and easier on the hands. also have a 60 meter yale imori VT set up with armor prus friction cord on but needs abit of tweaking to get it to self tend better armor prus is grippy and imori is very light ... the Imori is like no other, its still very shiney but for a 11.7 smaller rope it is nice to your hands! no tourble with fatigue so far the only down side is i can't see it lasting that long! it is too soft!
  12. a guy at work wears the "fly eyes" and does looks a complete plonker! though the jokes is on me when im trying to walk blind towards the eye wash from a shower of saw dust! he only has good things to say about them and we get a laugh out of it... give them a try!
  13. Cheers Andy, sent my application through last night after my boss said he would sponsor for the course. just by chance do you work there?
  14. I have also been looking into the Diploma courses at Merrist wood and had a hunch somebody might have threaded something! Have you found out any additional information about the course since you last posted? p.s. i can't help you with either of those im affraid... unless by "Tree crane" they mean the trolley device used for moving large Potted Trees. ...A crane, is a crane whether its shifting Trees or Building materials.
  15. Hi matt, a mate of mine thought he was towing a chipper less than 750kg for over a year with a normal driving licence and the police finally cought up with him and corrected him... not to mention the full load on board. its alot of money but once its done its done! Cat C then C+E it is then... better get the old highway code out and brush up on a few things!! cheers for the help
  16. very helpfull! thats the sort of site im looking for! cheers Mozza
  17. I've been looking into sorting out a trailer licence but was wandering if any body knows what catagory you need and what it entitles you to? got a normal Driving licence, Passed in 2008 so im not one of the lucky ones to pass before 1997... my little mum can tow a trailer over 750 kg and i cant.. i feel belittled as a man and need to sort this out for work! can anbody explain the licence types in plain english unlike the direct gov website? thankyouplease
  18. waheey alright phil ma man! Glad to here your climbing had the same trouble the other week... it got covered in the stuff! bit of a hairy climb so sap on the rope was last thing on my mind pillow case in the washing machine, bit of the liquid stuff in the tray and i stuck mine on a cold wash just to be safe! came out Really clean... abit too clean if anything but thats good for you ex army types get in touch about the show! have a pint or two! cheers Gareth
  19. Gecko's for me! velcro is the way forward.. or the top wrap atleast. Check out ebay for good deals.. the carbon fibre ones come in small medium and large so i would go to a local dealer first to see which fits best. only downfall for the geckos is the under foot L shaped bit.. its alot bigger than the bashlin so its all tip toes and heel when your squirreling out to the robin pearches
  20. larry the lamb!! hows the work going mate? meet you at Richards 2nd, 2nd house for a lovely cup of char and field camp out.. toodle pip haha "jobs a fish"
  21. Yo! finished merrist wood 10 week course a few months back, live in Warfield next to ascot and im used to the drive into guildford! Worked with Wentworth tree care for a day (haha a day!), calibra on and off recently but they cant offer me full time work. Been doing a few small private jobs to make ends meet so ive got my own climbing kit and PPE passed 30, 31 38, 39 good tree and shrub knowledge .... Im sure Jack K would give you a reference from merrist wood if you wanted to do a background check. 07890085165 or 01344 301207 Cheers, Gareth Thorpe-Jones
