  1. i stripped it down yesterday to have a look, i could see the little metal arm that moves round which then turns the oil pump, with the clutch drum off i turned the clutch/engine and it would turn with it but sometimes stick and not turn.... i took the clutch off and everything seem'd tight asin the metal arm and the plastic piece tight not slipping? i didn't think it seem'd to oil to bad when i checked it maybe its intermittant? bar just gets hot n smokes i hate messing with old gear
  2. My 044 is a big let down to me, its probabilly my fault due to buying it second hand. Its a 2000 model and i gave 150.00 for it. Tried using it today, it would bog down when trying to cross cut with a 16" bar, but ok when boring. I keep having a re occuring problem with oiling bar heats up, i've checked it over, maybe parts old and worn. I've just ordered a 20" bar for a 440/044. The 16" bar seems too small to me for the saw? so ordered the above 20" Anyway, its let me down today so not happy I currently only have my cs30 & 31, am keen at this as a career venture. i have a few jobs to do but this isn't my main job as i work for a landscaping company, it comes in handy though. Do i get the 044 fixed? Buy a brand new 441? Moneys not good but i may find it...... Buy second hand again seen 2009 361 but it looks like its been worked hard'ish...... once bitten twice shy? Help it puts a big downer on things
  3. excellent i shall give you a ring in the morning then i'm after a few other bits too and some advice so that'd be appreciated Cheers Chris
  4. Just looking for a new bar for my ms260, i currently have a 13" bar and chain on it, but have purchased 2 15" stihl chains for it (got them cheap) Seen some bars on ebay, there's stihl at £34 and oregon at £24 Do you always fit stihl bars to your saws? or is it ok to go for the oregon? also will the 260 be comfortable with the 15"? Cheers all
  5. what about the husky? or dare i say the ama? worth a shot at £150
  6. yep thats the one, and yeah, bob's up here somewhere lol i'll have to get in touch and see if he knows anywhere, there is the one in preston also 30 miles away
  7. i see what you mean, might aswell crack on and get searching for somewhere else then just been enquiring about my tractor test and pesticides too, as main job is landscaping
  8. i'm based near craven college skipton, and can't really go anywhere else due to the fact i get funding towards the courses up to 65%
  9. I completed my cs 30 & 31 back in april and had my cs38 booked for the 24th of may, on the 21st of may the training company rang up to say that they couldn't run the course due to only me applying for it and the re booked it for the 21st of june, So put back a month but thats not too bad is it..... Got a phone call this week to say theyre mostlikely going to have to cancel it yet again due to lack of numbers and they wanted to know if i still was wanting to do it! Really gutted, how am i supposed to get on and working when the courses keep getting canceled
  10. i'd be up for this, though i've not done very much climbing, still awaiting cs38 so i'm a beginner lol
  11. curious to know what use you have for the 170 i take it you mean stihl ms170? if you don't mind me asking?
  12. currently work for a landscape gardener, usually hard landscaping etc, we do get some tree jobs etc but we have a friend that comes to do them, i'm just getting into this area of work and am only 21 so i'm at the bottom of the ladder but keen and a hard grafter
  13. Hey no worries, i know what your saying i just bought the 017 and the 390 and the 023 when i didn't have the knowledge etc about them, i got the 390 because i wanted a bigger saw but couldn't afford much at the time
  14. well current list is: 020t 200t 260 044 390 023 017 i was thinking of getting shut of the 017 and 023, but its handy to have a cheaper saw for fence posts etc was not sure weather to keep the 390 or not as the 044 is leagues ahead, or just to keep as backup? or get some maintenance parts for the other saws etc and different size guide bars
  15. Evening all Silly question really but is it possible to have too many chainsaws in your opinion? How many do you currently have and actually use and do you keep spares etc? Was thinking of thinning out my small collection but was wondering what the general opinion was of saws to cover the different areas they are needed for
  16. possibly depends on the price of the course?? mine was £645.00 they provided everything
  17. 15" is the maximum guide bar length for that course. I did mine with a ms260 that the college provided and a 13" bar hope it goes well
  18. good informational video cheers
  19. As a total newbie, can someone point me in the direction of some good photo's? maybe before after? for the correct thinning etc Cheers all
