  1. I think u gotta be careful u could end up being resented by the staff if u have a too rigid start an finish time that too can be counter productive as soon as your backs turned their on phones etc there has to be a bit of give an take we have short days/ long days thats the job oh and as for mobiles phones and young lads i'd ban em drives me nuts
  2. or maybe if the arb industry was looked at as a bona fide profession rather than a extension of agricultural work, what we need is a professional body that has the arborist's interests at heart OH SORRY WE DO couldn't resist cheap dig
  3. CJM dont be so narrow minded people have second jobs for various reasons mostly to get by, i personally am a trained plaster but down here in cornwall its hard to get work ' full time' i went to uni then college i'm qualified and certified and insured id love to be in the position of full time arb work. but as for stealing work of full time arb businesses i call it competition.

  7. pruning and reductions are for the skilled artistic arborists, dont see wot all the fuss is meant to be about, some trees can take a good prune others not u only learn through experience IMO

  12. had a large poplar to dismantle, took the crown out easy enuf, sectional felling main stem, slowly, due too size of landing zone. Decided to fell large section, had a wire strop on, gob cut fine, half way through back cut and it split with the trunk pushing against my stomach before breaking off, shat myself, got down an had to take breather before finishing the job. Was shaking all over, almost gave treework up, but hey ho still goin!!
  13. twas just me observing the fact that there does or is a need for such a resource don't you think , just needed to stimulate a response and the vet analogy seemed fair........
  14. thx for info john, for me conifers and shrubs can be a problem, but was thinking it would be nice all under one roof, now for the controversial bit : i thought the tree directory would be handy after a couple of posts asking for help identifying some common natives, was taken aback by lack of tree ident skills, its like a vet not knowing what type of dog he's looking at lol rant over argh deep breath
  15. dont know if 'ive missed it, but as you have knot guide and fungi directory has anyone considered a native tree directory to help id ( for those who don't know their natives lol ) not knowing some off the obvious one's looks very unprofessional IMO.
  16. so, sounds like its quite tough got mine to look forward too june next year reading list getting bigger by the day lol
