  1. Cheers mate that looks really good. Once you place the film on does it need replacing regularly or does it last a while?
  2. Cool will check them out
  3. Haha they make you look like some sort of fly based super arb:thumbup:! Do you not find it annoying having mesh vision?
  4. I'm sure he explained it in a lot more detail. But there was so much knowledge to guy had to impart in such a short space of time my sponge brain became rapidly saturated! Looks cool though 'duuuuh' I love this thread Thanks to everyone who has contributed. Ben
  5. Really cool pictures John. Long exposure and bounce camera upwards?
  6. Cheers. I though that as soon as they started steaming up. Should have got the cheapo ones. Seemed like a good idea at the time to go with ones that would stop crud getting in. Ah well, Gives me something to moan about
  7. Nice one Dave. Will give it a go now. If that does not do the trick for the next time they get used I will just gob on them
  8. Cheers man. I know it works for diving masks but never thought to try it! There is a lot of moisture in there though! Literally dribbling down the lense! Never thought I was that sweaty!!
  9. As the title says my new Bolle tracker safety glasses are steaming up. Thought they would be the mutts nutts being sealed around the eye by foam to stop any crud getting in. Guess that is part of the problem. Anyone got any experience with these glasses and any genius ideas to stop them steaming up? Ive heard you can get spray for motorcycle visors.. would that work?
  10. According to Tony Kirkham they are not reiterative roots but were grafted on to an area where the bark was damaged:001_huh:. Just to clarify the first picture is a different tree to the second two.
  11. Nothing particularly exciting. A few photos from my trip to Kew last summer.
  12. Velcro is probably a good shout Drew, cheers. Probably better for me as I have a few different pairs of boots.
  13. I would be interested to see this too as the loosening can be a right pita:cursing:

    Plane trees

I think the 'seed' balls on them are to blame too. Especially the new ones in june/july in the Northern hemisphere. I say 'seed' cos they are infertile but i presume the balls would be the seed pods if they could reproduce naturally? Stay away in mid summer! I hate them
  16. Cheers Drew. I still have my reservations though and i know its a PITA to get installed from the ground with a throwline. Guess I will just have to use SRT for access all the time Ben
  17. Ron isnt a bad old stick. He hangs out on the tree climbers coalition forum called canopy chatter. Yank rec climbing forum.
  18. Does anyone know where you can buy the standard pulley that comes with the old rope guide. Im really keen to try Drew's poor man rope guide but I just dont have the money for a cocoon at the moment..
  19. That second picture is pretty cool Drew. Like the idea for the poor man rope guide too. May have to try that with a micro pulley and see if I like it enough to splash out on a cocoon

  21. Check your mail.
  22. i will have a look and see what i can find. pm me your email address but dont tell my uni!
  23. It is very interesting Tony. To be honest though my study is very specific to pollution and lichens rather than the whole nutrient cycling business. I suppose they are part of the carbon and nitrogen cycles? Have you got access to Silletts papers? I can get a few of them in PDF from science direct. Or do you already have an account?
  24. John, we met with hadleigh at the splicing "stand" at Jonsies show. I am currently halfway through a dissertation on "lichens as bio-indicators of air pollution on oak trees between Reading and Nettlebed". There is a wealth of knowledge on the subject of epiphytes. Try joining (in fact you should be able to get access through the institution you are studying with) ScienceDirect - Home and having a look around. Lots of great, peer-reviewed papers on anything you take an interest in (plenty of steve silletts papers too). There is also a good book called forest canopies which contains plenty of info on data collection methods in canopies and some examples. Forest canopies [book] If you want to give me a call and have a chat about some of the methods I have used and findings so far you are very welcome to PM me and I will give you my phone number. Good luck with it! it is a really interesting subject! Ben
  25. Couldnt you hyperthetically just take the loose end up tied on your harness. If the bight of rope touches the floor when you get to the climber you have enough rope to get back down??
