  1. i used spider jack 2 for awhile 6 months ish and found it good but just not as nice climbing with a hitch. as i prefer to work with rope. then i have recenlty got back on it, and for takedowns its awsome, the best thing i think u can use to be honest. but as for pruning and getting right out on the ends of branches i dont feel you can get the same gentleness or if you do it cost you little bit of time. I.e having to use your left hand with instead of right. i do tree comps with it and without it, i think its smooth but smoother with a hitch as it really counts on time when ur out on the ends of branches. and if the rope runs over a branch and then into SJ on steep angle can be pain to get down, thus making you have to pull rope through. All in all for work awsome, for comp climbing not so much. but hats off to joe Harris with it, takes alot alot of pratice and skill to get like that.
  2. is they anything saying what is apporiate in afga guides best pratice or other reading types? i dont think there is. So the best why is to dicuss and share knowledge. but in Trees there can be No Rule Of Thumb in any sistuation because they are all different.
  3. This is probs what i would say too. but then what if u are climbing carefully/ even weight on tree and anchor point but a branch fails underneath you? then you could have heaps of load on the anchor Point no? i think the best thing is, a Proper VTA first know your tree speices and strenghts. And check your achor all the way up from the ground for defects. if you cant get the anchor point you want with being a little dodgey then you can also go higher/smaller but back it up. there are ways to do this, i am sure the link is on Here. use prussik and rope cambium savers. if you think it is that unsafe, then ask your self THE question! is it really worth it? just go and bit lower or take the branch back abit further, then you live/climb another day to ask yourself the same question.
  4. you need the figure of 8 or similar above ur hitch bro, as that takes out the friction that would of gone onto your hitch.
  5. Yeah ross! just got mine back up and working, like u say back to square one and see what happens i am going to give it full year and see how that goes. seems to be working well and i took joes idea with the x2 bineers so u dont have to undo the velco each time u want to change branch and throw ur splice up and over. defo brings back climbing the tree more i say:) and not prussiking around.
  6. yeah bro thats the one, theres a few options ya can do. i reckon Small Pinto wont work as a splice mite fit through? suppose guess on what size rope and how big the splice. Rig Pinto is nice to climb on but i also use it my for lowering light stuff and Coocon with apline butterfly in rope. MOG aka Matt Glen;p
  7. yeah so thats a bit of a bummer. i reckon you could try a bigger shackle so it would run down the rope easier and not get caught up. Also you could stiften the line with either small tubbing or tape etc. this would also heap to keep the shackle lower and even could add bit of weight i.e fishing weight but that be last restort. Less weight the better in everything! Hope that helps to prevent it happening again. MOG
  8. i can tell u 100% mate that its not speeded up. climbed with him this wkend and he is that gd i am afraid. Also heaps climbing the tree lots of times too. i defo going to have a go soon on it and i take a Video and see what time i can do it in. Maybe a few pratice runs first too tho. Nar ross i didnt get any vid's of him this wkend. trev (my boss TREEGEAR.com.au) has tho and think he going to edit they all and put em togther. i link it too ya's when he does it. MOG
  9. Yo ross, caught up with joe this wkend. Is awsome to watch him climb on it and i gonna give mine another go. 11mm line all the way dude, i also found velocity the best. Gd luck man and keep at it. rememeber how long u been climbing on a prussik so will take awhile to suss it.
  10. Mate i would be alot more worried about the branch/tree u are tied into! ropeguides and other rated gear are rated for a reason. i reckon ur body would fail well before a rope guide did. U get used to it! higher the better:)
  11. Awsome way to preach bad pratice mate. How long does it take to back up ur figure 8 and swap climb line to tag line! these are both easy and obvious things to do, and takes another link out of our dangerous job. which is a plus to everybody in the Industry. use ur feet descending on single line....... well smart that one!:congrats:
  12. because it 1-1 instead of 2-1 on the rope. Single and Double systems, so u would move twice as fast on single than u would on double. so u dont havent time to react if the hitch opens up etc etc, also way more wear on hitch and rope. So just remember twice the movement on Single line systems than u would get on double. hope that makes sense cheers MOG
  13. thanks but cant make it now, as flights are too dear and other things are booked in. Hope you all have a amazing wkend and it goes well. Hopefully next year we get bit more notice than 2 months. thanks again for ur Knowledge tho.
  14. Good drawing mate
  15. hmmm doesnt sound right to me. i used to climb on one but with 11.7mm rope and ran free as a bird guessing 13mm would be defo way more frition but yeah maybe its the rope i say. try and smaller size and see what happens.
  16. Yeah true rossy, very good idea about sharing the loading on the tree. does work and treat and safer is the main thing. MOG
  17. Hey, yeah i dont climb on it after haha not that dumb mate. i made a purpose one up for rigging like a heavy duty one with the Pinto Rig pulley. But yeah i never install one from the ground due to 4x4 factor. that is a heap of force say branch is 100kg = 400kg max. if you change angles and add friction over branches it changes the 100% of force/times load on the rope. Also works very well for re-dircets for lowering branch so thay dont swing as far and u can fully lock it off on stem, if no crotch. MOG
  18. So yeah as title say's, i now use a Rope guide for Lowering block. Obivsously not for massive peice as would not be a good use for it or shockloading. but works great for everyday lowering pruning and small removals that sometimes guys can pull back up peices with easy. and then fully retivable from ground. and so quick to setup better than tieing knots i reckon! just a idea and works well for me, cant see any downsides in it. but i am sure someone can haha. Cheers MOG

    Weight of Ropes

sweet as cheers guys, i think velocity is heavier. but anyway was just wondering if there was some sercet rope out there thats light as, but i probs go with Blaze or tachyon. Rupe nar its also the Size dm of the rope too, wanna pack it into a very small bag. cheers tho
  20. Hello, so just running a few things. What is the lightest climbing rope out there? i say 11mm gotta be lightest. i found Blaze 2.6kg for 30m, Tachyon 2.6kg for 30m. i looked through a few but needs to need a good climbing line and the thinner the better or one that compacts down alot like tachyon. any pointers would be great. Cheers MOG
  21. hey, awsome idea. mega keen on getting some i reckon awsome laugh and very gd for safety. whats the best brand to buy u reckon?
  22. Sounds gd, "hopefully" we get to know the dates then:biggrin:
  23. wicked idea ropeknight, and awsome for sharing it with us. i fully get ya point, but i gernally like felx as in most case this reduce's the force on the rigging point/anchor point. but if it work in some case awsome, i will remember that one for sure. we should always have a climber/groundy even if its someone watching... we get best pratice guides by sharing ideas....
  24. haha yeah i think its just a random guess by everybody, a standing joke really. ah well nevermind. hope taki comp goes well dude, would been great to be there. catch up with rossy and grant tomz be nice.
  25. Hey so could ready do with knowing when the comp is ay??? flights are dear as! Cheers Matt glen
