  1. Currently just a two man band mostly ground maintenance in summer with tree work in the winter. We also do a lot of hedge cutting jobs. Just wandering what everyone's views are on expanding a business? I've been offered some more work but not enough to employ another person but to much for just the two of us to do. But hate turning down work! How would you take the work on? sub contractors or part time worker? Or would you just keep it as a two man band and turn the work down? Any views are always helpful!
  2. OK thanks for that would it be OK to oil the wood after it has greyed naturally then?
  3. Sorry do you mean oil will stop greying completely or just prevent it from going grey as quickly? Cheers! James
  4. Ok thanks would the wood still be protected enough if the oil is applied later? would you use tung oil or osmo? i don't really want a gloss finish either.
  5. would tung or osmo oil allow the wood to darken in colour after it has been applied? i.e go grey? as this would be the look I eventually want for the door.
  6. the newer shape i believe, where the black bumper bit goes right up to the bonnet.
  7. never more than a couple of days, maybe a week at worst. Thats the thing i could not afford to have my truck off the road for more than say a couple of days during the summer when i am busiest.
  8. that's what i thought if i could get a reasonable amount for it now, i could pay of a good bit towards a newer truck now which i hope would last me a good few years to come.. on auto trader they seem to go for around 5k which seems like good money to me?
  9. It is a tipper, just doesn't have high sides like most tree work trucks.
  10. what year is your one then? had any problems/issues with it?
  11. Mainly due to the mileage we rack up in a year... whats wrongs with the new ones then? Been looking at getting a 13/14 plate (not the brand new ones with the new style front)
  12. I've been thinking about selling my current transit and buying a newer/lower mileage one. But just wandered what the value of my current one would be. I know if i part exchanged it I would not get much so thinking of selling it privately. Its a 56plate t350 transit tipper with 117000 on the clock what do you reckon i should aim to sell it for? it doesn't have high sides its just the standard pick up bed on the back of it as well.

OK thanks what brand/make of cutters do you usually go for? and do you know of a decent set of rebate cutters i could get?

    Routers

Still looking at the different routers available and will probably try and get a second hand dewalt or makita when i come across a decent looking one. Most of the work i will be using the router for will be rebates. Would i need to purchase a special rebate bit or will the straight bits do exactly the same job?
  15. Same as me, wish i had got the heated handle version but my local dealer didn't have it in stock . my hands usually get warm when ringing up big stuff anyway so don't miss it too much, but still would have been nice!!!
  16. Cheers Jon, How do you find the 660 on the 25"? thinking of using mine on that sized bar for a bit...

    Routers

Spent some time recently looking at routers and came across this one: Silverline 1/2 inch Router 240V | Toolstation I know its a cheep one but at £50 and 1/2" it might be worth a punt? anyone got or use one before?
  18. I posted this same thread on here about a year or more ago and thought i'd post it again to see if anyone's opinions had changed on saws they would now go for, as husqavarna seem to be the go to saw for at least the smaller saws at the moment now. So if you could only have three saws what would they be? I'd say 461,660 and maybe 560 (although no experience of using it everyone likes it)

What was the palm one like? been looking at a bosch one seems quite good and not overly expensive, although is it only good for small jobs?

Thanks for the information, i think blackspur is no longer available unfortunately as a cheepish router, but new may be a good option for me as it won't be used a huge amount of the time. Also with second hand units although it may be a good router you don't know what abuse it has been given by the previous owner. (unless you know the old owner!!!)

Cheers for the information guys, decided its best to try and get a 1/2" version then. The dewalts and makitas are upwards of £300 pounds new which is a bit steep for me. Apart from the Bay where is is a good place to look for second hand units?

I'm really starting to enjoy making things out of wood/carpentry and am looking to expand my tool kit with a router but not sure which one to buy? I'm not looking at spending a huge amount of money as it won't be used that often so would second hand be a option? I intend to use it for cutting rebates for some doors and windows i'm going to start making soon would a router be suitable for this? James.
  23. Heard good things about osmo oil is that worth a go?
  24. They certainly are nice... I think his may of been A LOT more expensive than mine though!
  25. In the end i went with the Japanese tataki chisels from rutlands and am pleased with how they look/feel (have yet to try them out). Got a few projects coming up soon so will hopefully put them to good use!
