  1. No idea But if it was quiter before you took it to bits then take it to bits again and check your reassembly What where the big and little end bearings like (shouldnt tick but should be checked anyway whilst in bits) When you did the rings was it just rings or did you fit a piston kit ? if so did you take a note of the arrow on the piston crown i think this should point down towards the exhaust port as to fit the piston the wrong way up would mean the locating pin for the rings and ring gaps are in the wrong place and could do serious damage Is the exhaust sealed properly as a small blow here will sound like ticking Hope this is of help .
  2. As stated above valuing the business for the purpose you are asking will depend upon wether it is a one man band with few staff where the business is dependant upon him or if the business owner just sits in the office and goes out pricing and has a couple of crews doing the work for him as in that case selling it would from a customers point of view not change anything so the goodwill is worth more. I didnt mean to come across abusive as such but a tree surgeon wouldn't ask an accountant how to start a chainsaw and cut a tree down they would be expected to know and as you have pointed out it is specialist tax area and getting it wrong can lead to tax penalties so why ask a tree surgeon I just thought it a bit odd that as an accountant you where asking as when i asked the question to my wife she reeled off the answer as to how she would treat it straight away but you are the one with the clients accounts in front of you so value the business from that and then add for goodwill accordingly depending upon wether it is a small sole trader or one with a lot of staff
  3. As a sole trader turning LTD if the business is valued for the purpose with goodwill of say £20,000 then you as director of said LTD company then get to take £20,000 out of the LTD company tax free as you put it in in the form of goodwill. If you get it wrong at the changeover stage and get a tax investigation and the taxman says the goodwill should only have been £5,000 then you are liable for the tax on the other £15,000 is the basic explanation. It is nothing more than a paper excercise at the stage of forming the LTD company
  4. As an accountant should you not know the answer to this question yourself As a lot of people on this forum point out it takes a long time to learn about tree care and become proficient at doing a safe job for clients whilst there are a lot of unqualified have a go to make a few quid tree companys about with no idea. It also takes a lot of study time and exams to become an accountant with the relevant skills to advise people in business correctly as to do it wrong can cost them money in unnecessary tax. Are you a fully qualified accountant if so why are you asking as it is fairly simple to asses the correct course for the conversion to LTD company for someone suitably qualified. Anyway rant over in answer to your question straight from my good wife's mouth (fully qualified accountant and tax adviser) If the sole trader is a sole trader as in a one man band and any good will is down to him personally then if the business where to be sold there would not be the same element of goodwill as if he was a sole trader with a number of staff working for him and the business could be sold without him personally being missed. If he is able to theoretically sell up and transfer business and staff to new owner then there is goodwill to value. If he was to sell up as a one man band and the purchaser of his name would not be guaranteed the same level of business as customers are used to him then the goodwill is reduced for the tax purposes you are asking about It is no different a situation than you as an accountant would face if the client was a one man band plumber and wanted to convert to LTD company Hope this is of help just needed to get rant over as she has spent many years studying to get to where she is now and seemed to think it was a fairly simple matter for anyone suitably up to speed
  5. only for a clio but had me in stitches when i read item description 2005 RENAULT CLIO DYNAMIQUE 16V BLUE on eBay (end time 23-Mar-10 15:10:07 GMT)
  6. Cheers Chris have collected the bulk of it today - if anybody else wants the rest there are about 4 bits left 12" - 20" diameter about a metre long each. I daren't put anymore weight on my trailer so had to leave those few chunks and its not worth trecking all the way over from Hull for me for what i had to leave. Any takers give Chris a call on the number above
  7. Any one have or know where i can get the MS200T workshop repair manual in pdf format before i start taking it to bits Any help greatly appreciated Dave
  8. Sounds like a wicked splitter any pics of it yet and the guys details who makes them
  9. Thanks Chris will give Steve a call and arrange to collect sometime next week Dave
  10. Thats why the preference is for an 020t rather than an ms200t Cant really be bothered with messing with dodgy carbs if i can help it would rather have a slightly older better built saw without the inbuilt problems Dave
  11. Dont really have a budget in mind just a gut feeling that says for the occasional use it will get alongside my other saws i would rather spend on and older saw with a better build quality than a newer saw made down to a price If i had still been able to get chain brake parts and the few bits i needed to make the old 020avs safe to use i wouldnt even be looking for a replacement for it Dave
  12. I know i cant get a new 020t but as i am only looking at a used saw i just wanted a few extra knowledgeable heads to confirm what i was thinking - that buying used i was better off with the older saw rather than the newer one The 020av that i got rid of i would still have had if all of the things wrong with it i had been able to get parts for to fix but everytime a new problem cropped up and i went to stihl the parts where discontinued and not having a working chain brake made me call time on that old saw. Dave
  13. Thanks Guys I was thinking that the 020t was the better build quality and that stihl had slipped a little on quality with the introduction of the ms badging was only asking as i have just parted with an 020avs that i now need to replace so i was thinking the 020t was the better bet than the ms200t so is probably what i will go for as i have found a good used 020t for sale It doesnt need to be used all day every day so i dont need a brand new saw and knowing that there have been a lot of well documented (via forums) problems with carbs and general build quality on the ms200t's i will for now go for the older saw i think Dave
  14. Which is the better saw a i have heard and read about a lot of ms200t's with problems and although basically the same am i right in thinking that the 020t is a better build quality than the ms200's Any help appreciated Dave
  15. Whats the price over there at the moment
  16. If you cant find a seamstress with a suitable machine try someone who does tent repairs or sail makers or wagon sides or somewhere that does repairs to leathers for bikers any of them should have a machine up to the job
  17. In that case i stand corrected - i was only posting what i cut and pasted off the first page of hits on google .

  19. Ballario & Forestello if you google 'Ballario & Forestello dealer' you get about 300 + hits so you should be able to find what you are after in there Dave
  20. connys and small stuff will do me to get started the rest of the tickets i will look to take as and when i get around to it and as i gain experience and knowledge commercially - will hope to do a couple more within 6 months of the first couple depending on which ones i can do reasonably nearby as bishop burton college only does 30/31 and 32 so for the rest i will have to travel further to take them.
  21. I know a bit - enough to get started just taking on basic felling and clearing jobs i have a couple of books on the shopping list so i can learn the more detailed and complex stuff as i go along before i need it and anything i am not sure about i have a friend who has been doing this line of work for about 20 years that i can if needed call on for advice or help. I dont plan on calling him unless i really need to as he is always so busy it can take him a while to get around to coming for a look at things. I would rather turn down or get someone else to do i job i wasnt 100% certain of than to do it badly and damage a tree through incorrect knowledge. I plan on building a steady turn of work through a quality job and service and would rather not do something than do it badly Does anyone have any experience of Bishop Burton college (15 mins up the road from me) for the cs30/31/32 or should i look slightly further away .
  22. Have never done the certs as i have never needed to but i thought as i plan on now doing this work as self employed as i have been doing a bit more recently (last 2-3 years) it better to stay the right side of the law once i start properly and start advertising and charging
  23. I have done various things for work over the last 15 years ranging from engineering to taxi driving, running my own garage and selling camping / outdoor gear online - all chainsaw use over those years was personal and never for work other than small favours for friends / family
  24. the 17" bar is for the really hard knotty bits when i am cutting logs it runs a full skip chain with lowered depth stops so takes a decent sized bite and still never bogs down I have been using chainsaws for about 15 years now the 880 i got a couple of years ago as i had some large diameter trunks dropped of for firewood and always fancied one
  25. Looking to get myself some tickets and start on my own what do i need to comply with the law I will first do cs30/31 followed by cs32 and will be looking to work on my own with landrover and trailer and my saws (ms240 14", 025 14", 039 15" and 24" AND MS880 17" AND 36") Just looking for advice to keep me on the right side of the pen pushers.
