  1. Easy, get murphs skid loader on your line and snap the top anchor out, thus pulling it to the ground. Also this gives it a nice bit of natural fracture pruning You could as i have started to do i tie my final point in with a dmm ring, this has less resistance than rope on rope. You can tie a bit of throwline into this too to help pull it down at the end, Sometime though if im not going back it will be midway alpine butterfly on the dead end so it reaches the ground and can pull the system out at the end.
  2. In exactly the same way you would with a hitch.
  3. most the time the Sooper Cooper hitch, but if its a really long haul i'll switch to the lockjack combo as it advances quicker. The SC hitch is very quick though and because of its tie is extremely rapid during the ascents and descents. So id probably say i prefer them both as much as each other.
  4. Yeah id agree with 30% more efficient working around the crown. Smaller trees it will probably be almost the same. Longevity in climbing its better too as the forces are applied to bigger muscle groups, legs, core and shoulder. Rather than on Drt where its arms, elbows, shoulders and back (a lot of force is on the elbow joints). Being able to drop a false anchor over the section of the tree you are, lets say reducing is a big bonus as it moves you GOG (centre of gravity) into a better position so your not fighting the pendulum as you work. Its really handy for chogging down stems too as theres no need to switch systems around unlike drt when you choose to place a bowline and fig8. Jake, your welcome, im just glad that there are so many people using SRt be it with a unicender, petzl systems or rope wrench systems. Best move i have ever made in climbing
  5. Whatever you have, i generally isolate my line for most the work with a double fishermans and a ddm ring at the top, so no base anchors for me. So mostly a 45m line is ample with some to spare. So basically if you want to move to srt all you need is the Rope Wrench itself. so whatever its cost is on Honey Brothers, go for it low and slow at first but as you get to grips with it progress as you deem fit. Lumber Jake, i wish i could take credit but im still very much learning SRT myself, every week i find a new trick or hone my technique a little more. http://www.honeybros.com/index.php?app=ecom&ns=prodshow&ref=SINGING_TREE_Rope_Wrench
  6. I hear that, im still working on the 3 large Wellys near me, i want to get up them set a traverse and sleep up them in my henessey hammock, I think the traverse is around 40m between each of them and the height is around 75ft-80ft.
  7. Hello, You'll probably have most the kit already, so a Wrench and pantin might be your only purchases you require. I use a few Dmm revolvers and slings for re-directs but until you have the funds natural crotches will suffice. You can see in the video myslef and Dan very rarely use hand ascenders, a bit of practice on body posture goes along way. If your thinking of going for it just do it immerse yourself in the change over. You will work different sets of muscles compared to Drt, i find my core is used considerably more and its helped me shift about half a stone since the start of this year.
  8. Thanks, its Karma Crazy by Magnetic Man:thumbup1:
  9. Cheers Paul, your too kind.
  10. Witton, near Brundall, a stones throw from the A47, theres also an Oak there not the tallest but still impressive with its spread.
  11. So we went for a play in this 75ft Cedar, i reckon from the ground to the top it took around 1min using srt to get up to the top, good fun and had a few blasts around the crown on a quite open side, great fun had by all and the temp didnt effect any of us much. Big respect to a young lad Rory who dan brought along he's only 15 and hadnt climbed much of anything, got all the way to the top with signs of being a superb climber. 13. Cheers, Parallels by In Case of Fire.
  14. All the photos here, Nomadic's take the Cedar | Facebook Great day, even if it was hitting 32 on site. Great fun, great climb, especially from young rory who got right to the top and hes only 15yrs old!!!
  15. We've been barreling around a cedar today and the Zk2 is much quicker on smaller ropes, im on Yale Kernmaster and its a dream. But like Kevin said, if you have one that works its all good. Kevin is making his product better but still does the same as the Zk1.
  16. Im still not sure what your saying, maybe because im tired today and missing the point, the new on has its bolts if against the plate with a domed profile so there is no risk of snagging. Obviously the attachment pin has to be big and strong enough for someone to open and close and keep an eye on with ease. No if they made a hole for you to clip into this makes it need to reach the requirements of PPE rated equipment like a petzl Croll, or hand ascender. But i would like to add if anyone really cares to know that these objects meet requirements for rock access and working at height access but do not comply with tree work requirements. I only found this out as Stein have/are making sure thier own foot, chest and hand ascenders comply to this. Any way so getting back on track. Its unlikely because it would fall out of the fig 8 category and into the spiderjack category etc. Personally, after spending time on it, you rarely need to create/ use chest attachments but for what throwing a lanyard over your shoulder costs or buying an inner tube the costs are pretty low.
  17. Really well the improvements on the low profile bolts are good and they use allen keys now No7 i think. Its much better on bigger ropes moves better on PI which before i found bouncy. Were filming it tomorrow on the cedar climb Me, Dan Curtis and Matthew Warden, so i will aim to show the two models side by side. Not sure how good we are going to look as its predicted to be around 28 degrees so we might look quite sweaty....... I'll also add as far as im aware there are some other improvements that have been done to the fixed tether but cannot say at this stage for reasons to avoid something like reg's arb trolly getting ripped off before the launch.
  18. The blots are all rounded edges, with one being fixed, the rear one being able to be released with an alley key and the top pin is the midline pin. Not sure if your looking at the old one and thinking its the new one?? Because of its size i have found its easier to pass branches as the rope runs close but in fairness, after a few climbs its really easy anyway.
  19. Really good, better on bigger ropes than the ZK1, Being able to add and remove a solid tether is handy, really good build quality. Price, release date - Not for me to say or know sadly - I only test what im asked to by Stein and ISC. It is anodized and was shiny but i have been using it in all conditions since may. Id like to see it in bright orange personally as i feel bland colours are easy to loose.
  20. Might be being thick, but every time i have used cranes in the past i had a ride up, cut, it got lowered, i waited for the slings then belayed down and cut. Just think its putting yourself in unnecessary danger. Am i wrong or missing something?
  21. I remember this one its one of my favorite tree videos on the web, that and some country boys blowing tree up.
  22. So Kevin Bingham gave me permission to go live with some pictures of the new Rope Wrench i took. I can now explain that i have been on this since May 2012. It had a ally tether but i hvae removed it as i prefer a non stiff tether for my wrench. I didnt post a picture but will later on this weekend when i take another set of shots.
  23. So who wants to see the pictures of the new version????? Rope Wrenches Innovation Continues | Facebook
  24. Bring him along, only 3 so far but thats better as its kind of good to have the cream climbing. Bringing all the filming kit and Kevin Bingham has said i can film the ZK2 which i have removed the tether as its too long to be fair. Should be some good views too, Sam went up to clear some hangers out on tuesday and said the view form just under halfway was pretty sweet.

  25. Ideally: Blast a line high up with a bigshot, then climb normally DRT or SRT it. Will be much, much easier than spike and strop. Or just get that 'Pilot' Old Mills used to fly close and collect data for you.......
