20m up, 10m out you can still cut and hold a 1600kg lump of tree. That's some serious kit there. Huge admiration for people who are willing to invest it this type of kit.

I had been wondering about a 360 tele and a decent shear. Looks like an excellent set up. What will it cut and hold at maximum reach?

Originally I wanted to heat it from waste heat from our charcoal kiln. Never quite got round to it.

It used to take 6 heaped IBC at a time equating to about 170-180 net bags. We dried it for a week to get to about 18% moisture level (wood wasn't fresh cut, usually split it and let it air dry for a few weeks before going into the kiln). It only has the heat exchanger unit with it, power consumption will be dependent on what you use. A few hundred KWHs/£30 would be about right. Basic set up but worked for small scale.

Hello, I have a 20ft insulated shipping container and about 9 IBC cages coming up for sale. The container was a food grade stainless steel unit we adapted for drying logs. It has a vent axia heat exchanger mounted on the roof. Worked pretty well for us for logs but would also suit any kind of dry storage. Nice solid and weather tight. We are just repainting it with hammerite to fresher it up a bit but I'll put some pictures on shortly. Looking for about £2k no VAT. Will need a normal container lorry to shift it.

I did exactly what you are saying 5 years back. Didn't need a huge amount of diesel as it was just a mini digger and chipper. I bought a 640L tank from these guys. Hand pump was ok but ended up putting a 12V on it. You still get a ok-ish price on red for 500 litres+ IBCs tanks WWW.SMITHSOFTHEDEAN.CO.UK We supply tanks, IBC tanks, drums and fittings etc. Large stocks held including recycled and new - based in Gloucestershire 5 years and never had any issues with the tank, any drivers filling it, etc. Easy and £200 ish with delivery.

I was going to give them a try as they seem keenly priced. They are quoting a £1.50 a week based on me and one vehicle, I had another company quoting £1.50 a day and it seems pretty much like for like.

Thanks guys, Part 2. What are owner/operators (single driver in company) using for tacho analysis? I appreciate their are companies online offering the service but it seems they are more aimed at fleets with multiple drivers/vehicles. My situation is just me and one truck.

I like the look of this. I did log bags for couple of years and could see how it would work well but the biggest complaint I had was the back ache from being hunched over to tie the bags then lift. Not sure this would solve this though. Need to get everything on a level so no bending down at all.

Bit pricey but treated myself to some Stihl dynamic BT ear defenders last year. Battery lasts for days, good signal for the Bluetooth and comfy. I mainly wear them when doing mulcher work in the tractor. Engine is so noisy can't really hear the standard radio, ear defender work great. I'd recommend them.

It's their own one. It's pretty straight forward. I'm not 100% on the farmi though. I find quite a lot of shit accumulates between the rollers and the rotor. Way too much space in between. Its fine for the money butI feel it's a design flaw.

This isn't about levelling any playing fields etc it's all about increasing govt revenues. Plain and simple. Look at one of the main rationales: Part of the rationale of scapping the rebate is that if red diesel users are paying so little for their fuel, there is little financial incentive for them to switch to cleaner technologies. Please show my the alternative? The petrol/lpg/battery excavators, tractors, combines and so on. They don't exist. Why hammer the users, why not incentives the manufacturers to produce a cleaner alternative.

This is what I have on my 260. Remote control for the feed rollers. Doesn't control the rotate or angle for the chute (which would be ace) but its still really handy.

Ive been reading about the potential for doing away with lower duty rate diesel. Under the guise of the environment but I'm a cynic. I'm not sure it'll be the hardest hit for the arb industry but it'll still be costs up/returns down.

I'm looking everywhere! Old tractors seem to hold there money ridiculously. So I thought buy something newer and hold onto it. I have been looking online at tractors in France & Germany. Seem to be well priced. Deutz Agrotron 150 is on the list. Same Silver 130 but not many about.

I'm considering a 120-170hp tractor for running the chipper (farmi 260) and a bit of trailer work. I like simple! Looked at a Massey 7480 dyna VT which was a dream to drive (compared to my Same 86 manual box) but the fear of stuff that could go wrong with a complicated gear box got the better of me! I'm thinking up 2005 onwards. 40 or 50k trans, air brakes. Relatively straight forward mechanically. Zetor HSX 140? Any thoughts?

I have got a service manual (and I'm capable of a bit of spannering) but sometimes jobs are beyond my skills and I risk making things worse!

Anyone know of any mobile tractor mechanics that cover middlesex (or area formerly know as). I dont have any problems with the tractor, trailer, etc just tryong get someone for future work.

I had a exeter retort for a couple of years when I made charcoal. If you have a strong market and very low life costs then you might be ok but I found its an incredibly hard to make any return.
