  1. A little Saturday morning job on old faithful. 2005 L200. Been hearing the odd knock and found the rear shackle bushes looking pretty warn so switch them out. As you'd expect on a 13 year old truck it was all corroded and took so encouragement to get out! Got greasable ones from Milner for £13. As repairs go this is refreshingly good value!
  2. Agreed. I always thought ally planks and stokboard should be more widely available. If you do build you own body have a look at monobolt rivets. Really strong and ideal for this kind of work.
  3. Got a new flight for the auger. 150mm tungsten tip. Have it out tomorrow hopefully.
  4. I think it was about £40 for a 3200mm x 400mm plank. They are still pretty hefty. Must be about 15-18kg for those. They look smart though and age really well in my opinion though.
  5. Yes. There are probably better or tidier ways of doing it but I was doing it all myself. I kept it all square and simple. Lots of rivets and some big nuts and bolts.
  6. Didn't take many pics annoyingly. I basically just made sides from the alloy dropsides with alloy channel sections (secured with rivets). then bolts to the steel. Good thing is I can unbolt it in 40 minutes or so. This was a small one. 800mm.
  7. I painted the steel with hammerite which seems to have worked well.
  8. Is it business to domestic (individuals) only? It doesn't seem to to cover business to business.
  9. I found it a bit bewildering when I first did mine but you can ring up a have a chat about it. I ending up buying the alloy dropsides as I liked the little lips they have on them for support. I have never tig welded so I built a still frame and used bolts and rivets to secure the alloy sides.
  10. They do a catalogue and the do bespoke shutters as well. http://www.servicemetals.co.uk/downloads/
  11. I have used services metals several times and it was quick and the lengths were pretty accurate to what I asked for. I think my closest depot was Essex.
  12. ex hire is hit and miss in my opinion. it might have been well looked after or might have been pressure washed and sent straight back out. There is a risk that when a company knows they will only keep a set number of years then there is less incentive to keep it tip top. Same as anything I guess.
  13. Perhaps unjustified but 4000+ hours on a 4 ton machine scarea me a little.
  14. Exactly this. I feel there is a bit of a niche for a 5 ton machine for me. I have lots of one or two day jobs where a 4-6ton machine would be brilliant. Ive found that to hire them anything over 2.5t machines have sizeable delivery/collection costs (best I have had is £75 each way) and they do a minimum of 3 day hire. Plus there is time lost waiting for a machine to arrive etc. So to do the 2 day job I've got 3 days of hire costs and £150 transport costs - around £300 cost additional. If i could find a hire place who would let me collect and just pay a day rate Id be better off but understandably a hire firm isn't necessarily interested in little cheap jobs like this. There is the argument of savings the jobs up and doing 2 in a week but it just doesn't seem to happen like that. I have got on well with my komatsu so I am looking st the pc45 and 55. The 121-3 seems 'more' common.
  15. gents, I am pondering getting a 5 ton machine. Not sure if it'll replace or go alongside my 1.7t komatsu mini. I'd like to run a tilt bucket, grab and perhaps a small flail head. Budget will be around £18k ex VAT. What would you be looking at? I fancy a U48 but they seem to be fairly old and high hours for my price range.
  16. Matt S gave me the idea and the more I looked into it the better it seemed. I came up from alpines so I wanted something that still felt comfortable on rough terrain. I've partnered it up with a 2.25m medium duty flail. When money allows I'll get a medium size flail arm and a 6-8t trailer (not decided on what yet).
  17. Works fine on the mobile forum. Is the app being fazed out? I'll get rid of it if so.
  18. I'm going to remove the app and reinstall.
  19. It won't even let me select an image so can be size. Plus I can add the image here (in the forum).
  20. I don't recommend a violent approach but certainly worth finding and explaining face to face you need paying. It's easy to ignore emails, calls, etc. Knocking at their house at midday on a Saturday is harder to ignore.
  21. I've been trying to send an image in a PM but it's says the forum administrator has disabled this? It that the case or is it me?
  22. Joined the full-size tractor club. Same Dorado 86. Been looking for a while and finally found one that suited me. Big thanks to Matt S on here for all the advice. I've got one to match his!
  23. Been shifting soil with the MO. EDIT. Can't seem to post a gif file?
  24. I gave up on Ebay. It seems to be more scams than genuine kit. There is also load of hassle with items not including VAT in the list price contrary to the rules. EBay doesn't care though. I've reported loads of dodgy stuff and they never even pull the advert.
