I get offers of Baltic firewood almost every week and I know a few lads locally that have went down this road and one managed to get ripped off after dealing with the same seller for a few loads. I guess it will run its course. I expect if oil price rises and with it the transport costs and the shift in exchange rate with the €uro it probably won't be as attractive before long. Also, I'd expect after Brexit transporting firewood in and out of EU member states could carry a tariff or at least an amount of customs declarations etc. Could even be a restriction on moving untreated timber to control disease. Id say you're bound to be close enough on the cost comparison there brushcutter. You'd need a fairly decent base tractor for that setup and I'm not sure what the max diameter you could handle with it. The Hypro 755 was mentioned earlier and here's the YouTube video for it. You don't quite grasp the concept of Low Impact Forestry. I don't care how experienced you are are you will Never keep up with the output of a one of these processors. I agree, there is a reason that the big purpose built stuff exists but to do proper first and second thinning in SSSI and estates ain't that reason. Everything has its place and purpose. The price is not £50k for the Hypro 450. Last time I checked it was around £35 and that was with the crane and winch fitted. The bigger 755 machine was about £50k but it works from inside the cab and can work from both sides. Much faster than a stroke processor. 4 or 5 times the speed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Rabaud do a winch option on the Farmer II series of log splitters. I saw them at a show a while back and it looked very handy but it did make a fair difference to the price. I suppose if you are using it all the time it would soon prove its worth. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Have you actually seen the falcon in real life? Higher, wider, (too wide!) heavier, 8 wheels but only 4 driven but only takes 4t at best. It's a Farma trailer and crane fitted to a "tractor". They've only actually built one of them so knows if it actually works now or will stand the test of time. I've seen it and everything about it is wrong in my opinion. The Malwa looks like a nice machine but I hear that it costs an awful lot more than the Vimek. As much as double some have said, but that's only hear say, I've not had an official quote for it. Maybe someone on hear knows the right price??

I have one of these Collino Saws from Oakleaf Forestry. The best I have seen. I looked at them all and this one is very well made and very good value. Been using it for almost 5 years now and never looked back. Conveyors are available for them too, looked at them at the time and alway planned to go back for one but never have (yet). 12 way split on dry Sitka is almost impossible for any machine. 16 way split?? I'd love to see it. Green Ash should be ok but I find it hard to get consistently in the right size and very expensive to buy in when I can get it.

I love the look of the vimek, has to be way more manoeuvrable in thinnings than a tractor and trailer. The Kranman looks ok but I think I would probably end up regretting not spending the extra money on the bigger machine. Wish list for this year would be a Vimek 606TT and a Hypro450XL
