  1. wow is that drilling via these hawk moths?
  2. lovely images, superb.
  3. RobArb-Although I find you current cause very noble and worthwhile, I can't help but wonder how much of this is "preaching". Similar to the christian thread and how some rather devout christian force their message (not all by the way) on everyday folk... Is this thread really forcing it on anyone? like a T.V channel one only has to turn over, or ignore it, but the truth is deep down we ALL know the reality is we are on the brink. The brink of eco system failure, and on both a local and global perspective. In this statement he compares my "preaching" to that christian fervour that has throughout history been the cause of great problems. Yet what I am asking not preaching you all to do is take care of your ecosystem, and thats all. I AM asking you to have faith of sorts, but only in that we must have faith in our own power to turn this around. RobArb-It happens in all walks of life, beliefs of one thing or another that are truly believed and lived by that person that they take over and consume rationality (imo). And here we hint at the fact that I have an irrational perspective, that is to be expected from an academic, ones training coming to the fore. I like the following extract- In contemporary philosophy "irrationalism" is, inspired by Hindu and Buddhist philosophies, emerging into a new growing school of thought in which the importance of our intuitive capability is stressed. One such young philosopher, Robin Vermoesen (Belgium, 3 November 1978), states in his Dutch written book Rationaliteit is vals (translated: "Rationality is false") that every conscious is at the same time an individual being and total reality, thus as a consequence our rationalistic capabilities aren't enough if we truly want to understand reality in its truest form. For us to truly know reality we need to become it, we need to become our Self. He further states that there are four "knowledge relationships", (in growing order of intimacy: knowing, sensing, realizing and being) a being can experience, and all true knowledge of the Self, thus reality, must eventually grow into the most intimate of the four: being. Since rationalistic knowledge can bring us only knowing, it is, although a necessary tool, not enough to uncover reality. It needs to be balanced by other capabilities and framed in a patchwork that gives positive meaning to personal commitment. Robarb says-Again this is NOT a criticism, I am fully aware of the path you have chosen and commend you for choices, but it just feels as though a message is being preached, which I don't agree with. again rob, here you first apologise for the thing you say you are not doing just before you do it! not once but twice in one post, you must be serious, that is not a fair assumption? can one safely assume that when a man re iterates his point, and even uses the same word (preach) twice in the same post:001_rolleyes: I was disapointed because I expect MUCH more from you than this, I see a lack of insight to a bigger perspective in this post from you, and a fair amount of jade in the colouration. and that is where the kiddo comes from!
  4. take it as you will, but read the smilies too, you dont know me well enough yet to be able to form an opinion of me, nor I of you.
  5. not good news, Sweet chestnut blight is here, and of course its another import, why do we need to import castanea sativa! Sweet chestnut blight found in Britain | Gabriel Hemery

  7. Ben, that is a remarkable and very beautiful piece of wood, absolutely gorgeous, get a jig for a rocking horse and make one for that darling daughter of yours.
  8. got the butin myself, havent seen the FC one im sure its good though
  9. Listen, dont get your knickers in such a twist! Language is the hardest barrier in this format of communication, so choose your words wisely, I try VERY hard to do likewise, look back at the early days of hamadryad! Passion can get the better of us at times, but if my sins on this earth are being inspiring and generous with a little bit of getting the better of me, I know I will have lived well, that my path is the one I choose, and not the one dictated to me by anyone of my peers and certainly not some smart arse student:001_tt2: I have been aroud this old forest a long while kiddo:biggrin:
  10. I thinned AND reduced a BIT! a bit is to say partialy, not totaly, in places not overall, kapeesh!
  11. that is shocking, surely thats a lack of dedication to the clients needs!
  12. thanks johnp! heres two pines I thinned and reduced a bit a while back, even the T/O said it could not be done!
  13. fortunately, that "preaching" in your words (sad) is much more appreciated than criticised, which IS what your doing. Your using a derogatory term to describe your perception of my views and approach to highlighting and publicising the issues. That is a shame coming from you, I am disappointed, but thats your flow, i will choose to continue my flow like water flows around the rock in the stream. Eventaly even the biggest of rocks are worn to pebbles and trundle along in the currents of movement and flow.
  14. to be fair this hornet raid of the bees is unique to the asian hornet, our bees havent learnt the method of killing the scout that locates the nest so if the asian hornets get here our bes will have a HUGE issue
  15. Pinus sylvestris Fastigiata (Sentinel Pine) | Barcham Trees
  16. tree hugger, yeah, and youll appreciate that when there are none left and you live in a high rise cos there is no room for us to biuld anymore!
  17. I have a shot of them lower than this on a birch too somewhere:thumbup1:
  18. gutted for you, but welcome
  19. how about a fastigiate scots pine, a compromise
  20. did you move to this area and think its a nice place to live? do you not feel any empathy for the ecosystem that your house partly if not entirely displaced? if i was your TO i would meet your view halfway, and acept the long term fell option, BUT like you standing firm on your YOUR view on the fell, would maintain MY view that YOU must replace with what existed before:biggrin:
  21. That last part is something the industry at large is trying hard to eradicate, Your doing what you need to do to avoid being hung drawn and quartered in court, the advice that you need to follow and given thus far is solid and to re iterate those points... 1) Phaeolus schweinitzii is a known principal decay fungi of the roots and butt. 3) the tree is leaning toward and within reach of property (though likley to do minimal damage to house and even more unlikely to kill) 4) a written notice of intent sent to council TO giving 7 days notice should already be on route or emailed. 5) that this tree will cost between 350 and 650 as a rough estimate and take a day to complete depending on the firms individual setups team numbers. 6) that you will have the backing of many of us should you in the very unlikely event of a prosecution for felling a protected tree.
  22. that is your free choice, but bear in mind you have just exposed as so many others have a very narrow perception of that message. I guess some poeple will not acept the truth and the discomfort that goes with accepting that we are on a path that we will see end the reign of the human animal.
