  8. as long as the wood can ventilate (we brits tend to seal everything in!) is oiled on the outside it should be fine if no pre exising decays are within the logs prior to build. there are log cabins in the states that are from colonial days:001_cool: If a bit rots, go to the woods, cut a skinny pine down and replace the rotten log, no worries!

  20. sadly th biggest chestnut I ever saw (horse) blew over many years ago, I fished under it as a child and young man for perch in the wier pool, one of its kin was home to a bracket that was bigger than any i suspect I will ver see the likes of again. I ddint know at the time but it was rigidiporus ulmarius. it was almost the size of a small engine, like a mini engine.
