1. lol, made me look! im getting a new pup next year
2. Albedo, seeing you chatting away makes me realise how chilled out ive become! That maybe in part due to withdrawing from UKTC for a bit! you take it too seriously, no ones digging you out or on the attack! RELAX. Good stuff guys.
3. it is going to be a basic intoduction into fungi and decay, anyone should be able to follow, Im actualy having a hard time trying to keep the balance between too much info and not enough, and not treating anyone like well if its too basic youll think im wasting you time, too complex and I will just send you to sleep! and if that happens I will have to make you drink coffee "till blood comes!" as Claus would put it:lol: Its basic intro, nothing too deep, thats why I am asking so I get a rough idea how deep down that rabbit hole youll all want to go, but I guess we can do that in the questions.
4. It IS, I never meant to suggest otherwise! would not take his mony anyway, and YOU know it:001_tt2:
5. Will anyone attending please give me a heads up on Fungal or tree mechanics/VTA questions you particularly want answered so that I can make sure I cover everything in the time allowed and tailor things a bit for you all.
6. Thats fair, but if a freelance paying job comes up and the climbing is well covered I need to make paying bills a priority right now, behind on water, mortgage and TV liceance! Spent far too much on Jollies and books this year:blushing:
7. I could do with out the fuel expense if you guys have this covered to be honest hence the second option if all else failed, Ive cleaned myself out financialy with the Cumbria trip this weekend so would rather find a freelance job IF you dont need me.
8. Im happy to Felix, reckon this old boy deserves a bit of community support, just for the care he has taken of his wife and daughter let alone the services:thumbup1: I am well in if you want me. only got a top handle for the climbing, so if anyone else can bring the loggin saws, ive got the rigging kit
9. why was he banned?
10. So we have plenty of manpower on the ground for this one, a chipper, but has a climber come forward yet?
11. What this visit has highlighted for me (suspected it anyway) is that hydration is the key in maintaining function and resisting decays in the presence of massive wounding. Dr David Lonsdale made a superb presentation that went into the details of what exactly happens when we pollard and its the first time ive seen anyone really spell it out this way. He described the importance of the connection between Root and shoot and the maintenance of vascular channels, using the cage pollard as A1 prime example. I think Im going to talk to David about the presentation a bit more, I discussed the potential of the information to him but I am really keen to put something together and get this presentation out to arbs. Its how you and I think and feel our way through the proscess of a tree reduction pollard restoration but put into a format that is so easy to digest.
12. Thanks David, The ash pollard at the gate is with Polyporus squamosus- further demonstrating (due to numbers) that further north and certainly in wetter regions Poly is the predominant polypore over I. hispidus, and vice versa down south. There was a lot of pollarding going on in Langdale, some locals, others the new drive by NT to get out and restore those on the hills. The team hike 6 miles some days to get to a pollard out in the hills!
13. If no one else is definate on the climb I will act as second for a stand by, arrange your date (23rd) and if all else fails, I will put it on the floor. Mr Blair, your a good old boy.
14. This lovely old Oak Q. petrea was only held to the rock face by anchor roots, the entire tree completely overhanging a 20ft plus drop! A nice group of pollard sessile Oak Q. petrea in an enclosure of dry stone walling- to keep stock OUT not in! lot of early industry in the area, smelting, lime kilns and the production of gunpower. The Juniper of the area was the preferred charcoal for military products as it had a faster ignition rate. The ATF (Ancient Tree Forum) group checking out an old Oak with Ganodderma sp, not the buckling and body languages. A rather nice example (very large too) of the European beech F. sylvatica A nice Dor beetle The bug man checks out some beasties And the rare Bagot breed of goat thats causing a fair amount of damage, far more than sheep or cattle IME, but as the breed is named after the owners family he adores them! I can see his point, they are very handsome goats!
15. have you notice the old hazard beam crack! it was awesome up there wanted to stay but ran out of cash:thumbdown:
16. Its a long drive to the lakes, and this climb up loose scree was also a mission but I have to say, it was very very worth it, even for this chicken shot!
17. pholiota squarosus:thumbup1: not yet:thumbup:
18. one of the mxyos for sure but I cant remember the name of it offhand, found lots of it recently too, the slime moulds etc love this damp warm weather.
19. The day will come when the petrol pumps and the strip coal mines have to be shut down, and it will happen, so get used to it, the idea I mean, couple of decades and the truth will be less than debatable. The high tide will be lapping at the doors!
20. I am not for the record a doom and gloom kind of guy, I dont actualy think were more than 40% of the contribution to global warming, but then 40% is a lot on top of normal system fluctuations. The thread is really about discussing or thoughts and feelings regarding this issue, and you have just expressed yours. I think a lot of people are more worried than they let on in all honesty, many of you have children, that would worry me, for their sakes, I mean, what if its all true? doesnt matter whos right and whos wrong, wether its all BS or not, the fact of the matter is The EFFECTS are there, that much is undeniable, question is, will you care enough?
21. shall look it up, I might stay up here after friday, do the weekend on me tod kip in the car and rough it, its flippin awesome up here, in fact i might become a bushman and never go home!
