  1. These large pieces of fresh Beech bark were found underneath a large and very very old Beech tree. As you will see from the phone in the photograph they are very large pieces of bark. I would be interested to see what people think has produced / caused these. All pieces are fresh bark and all are fairly uniform in size. I can see no teeth marks or claw marks from squirrels etc.
  2. You could try Nik Johnson at Lincoln always got machines in North Lincs good operators as well 07860 366309

  5. I did exactly the same last week and hit my Knee cap. It came up like a balloon!! Somebody who worked for me was using one in the rain several years ago and the Hookeroon struck a glancing blow to his shin and he had a nasty hole in his shin and was off work for 5 days, following a hospital appointment. These tools are excellent if used correctly! But concentration is a must otherwise accidents happen.

  9. Steve This was the reply I received from the accountant: They had a strike on and just after 31 January which has hampered obtaining tax repayments, and if it is any consolation, you are not the only client of mine this has happened to. That is the official line, although as the country was supposedly running out of money in February, I suspect that the word came down from the Treasury to freeze tax repayments for a period. Certainly, whilst it sounds cynical, this would not be the first time I have seen this happen. After Pastygate, and the “self created” petrol crisis, (one way to get people spending and stop a recession!!), who can say??
  10. Steve Normally within a forthnight of uploading your VAT. I have been waiting for a Tax return for the last 6 weeks emailed my accountant who said that he had at least 20 other clients who were waiting for payment from HMRC for VAT or TAx to be repaid.

  13. Does anybody in the South West know of a reputable company that can repair the infeed conveyor belt on my firewood processor. Hasn't broken yet but likely to any day now. Have a new one on order but as the old one is breaking along the join I would like to try and get it repaired. Ideally a company in the South West of England but would consider elsewhere and has anyone a rough idea of the cost?

  15. I to saw the program, in the very early hours of this morning! Living in a National Park as well we are bound by Natural England, The National Trust and The National Park. The Planning department have a very much if your face fits you can get away with it!!! A tragic waste of a life in the program for someone who bought jobs and tourists to the area, only to thwarted by do gooders!
  16. Hello mate tried all of the normal pallet strapping systems. In my mind the best sort comes from a company called Cordstrap. With the system that they sell you can retension the product that you are securing. I have treid several and this is by far the best one. They had a big stand at the Forstry show at Cannock. Any problems or for contact details of the rep please pm me.

  18. For what its worth.. In a previous life I was a courier doing over 100,000 miles per year. My fuel costs were through the roof, I had an LPG conversion done by a company in Huntingdon, I think it cost me about £2,500.00 I halved my fuel bill over night and paid for the conversion within 3 months. The power reduction was negligable, but with a full tank of petrol and lpg I had a range of over 800 miles. The MPG was slightly less with gas if I can remember was getting 33-35 with petrol and 28-30 with gas, but gas was 30 pence per litre. My mechanic also said that the oil when changed was like new!! I changed from every 10,000 mile service to 15,000 so there was a saving again. With regard to garages selling gas, I never had a problem even when I went to stay on a friends estate near Abernethy, found a service station at Bridge of Avon? Its also possible to fill at home using conventional LPG bottles, just by a hand pump off fleabay and turn cannister upside down to get liquid rather than gas. The one downside that I had was that they dont allow gas vehicles on Eurotunnel due to the dodgy installations performed on the continenet particularly Italy and former Eastern block countries. Therefore I had to contend with bobbing about outside Dover docks in a force 10 gale for 5 hours!!!! If you want any further info please pm me. I also have for sale an 07 reg Renault Kangoo LPG petrol van
  19. Does anybody or has anybody successfully purchased Phytophora diseased timber and used it for Firewood? From what I understand it can be used by sawmills but not by firewood processors / log merchants. Any information would be welcome. North Devon and Exmoor is now rife with this disease. Yet we are told we cannot purchase it to use in the firewood industry due to the fact that we dont have control over where the end product goes: ie someone could buy a bag of logs and take them to Scotland to make garden feature and the disease would infect Scotland. In my opinion to little too late by the Forestry Commison!
  20. Wouldnt be without mine either! Use it like an extra long arm saves my back when picking up stuff, logs, rings etc. Much prefer the stihl one (I have 3) tried the oregon one but its too light more like and Ice Pick. Used a bale hook when I was younger maybe thats why I am so confident with it.
  21. :laugh1:Eggsarascal surely you as HR spokesman for this site Mr Bullman should be given a verbal warning first? A bit harsh to go straight in with a written one. Maybe he should get his union rep involved.
  22. Done that mate!! Definately not in my inbox. Even tried to access the message by going into browsing history nothing.......
  23. I have let steve know of the problem. Has anybody else "lost" Private messages when they have read them? It has happened twice now opened up a PM read the info contained and then logged out. logged in again some days later to act on the info and hey presto no sign of the PM. Is it me or are others having similar problems? Still the best arbsite in the universe though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  24. My D22 went bang in 2009 the local nissan dealer said that as it had passed 115,000 it will be ok!! regularly serviced oil changes etc suddenly a heavy tick tick tick if I had been able to stop it then the cost would have been £4-500 as it was it cost me £3,500 (ouch) as well as not having a truck to deliver logs in I lost customers as the garage doing the work took 8 weeks to repair the vehicle. I have since learnt that for about £300 you can get all of the modifications done prior to the big bang it takes about a day and you will get yourself an engine that should keep going. I love my truck and wouldnt be without it. So save yourself the aggravation and get the modification done!!
