  1. I would give it a good go! Ask the neighbour for evidence and give him 4 weeks to reply, if nothing comes back then send him the bill and wait another 4 weeks if no reply fill out a small claims court summons form on line (pay £25) and add that to the bill!! This is Just how I would go about it, weather it would stick or not is down to the people involved but I'm pretty sure from my experience that sooner or later somebody will pay.
  2. What a rubbish situation to find yourself in mate. Personally I would not get involved in the technicalties behind it all, I would have spoken to both customer and neighbour individually. To the customer I would say: we are leaving site now and if it Turns out that you should not have instructed us to take down the tree then you will be liable to pay the full bill. And to the neighbour I would say: we will leave site and if it Turns out that you had no legal grounds to stop us we will charge you the bill + hours spent/waisted on first attempt! I'm interested to hear how it ends up tho?
  3. I've had a guy put the socket of the chipper in up side down so the indicators are reversed (right flashing when indicating left...) a motorcycle then whent to undertake on left side as he thought the van was turning right and...... "bang!!!" Not a happy motorcyclist but stupid mistake and luckily nobody was hurt but lessen learnt!!
  4. I'm also looking at this course mate, would be good to get feedback from anybody who has been on it???
  5. Keynsham Carl ? Hasn't he got his own set up now mate?
  6. Are we talking sub-contractor rates here? If not then I would say you are very lucky indeed (or climb like superman on speed)

  8. Just looked at the sit, looks promising and I've asked for more info. Shame they don't offer a trial period tho!! Everything they state it does I can and do already do on my iPad/mac so it will come down to how user friendly it is and if it is worth paying for!!
  9. I'm guessing it's ure son?? Just gathered as you called him ure lad??
  10. that doesn't sound very clear to me mate:lol: I'm not trying to knock you down mate but honestly this was taken from the dot glove website ( be all and end all!!!) I would just double check to be sure you don't get caught out! Not that you're son will be grassing you in I hope:lol: I'm sure he gets/ had his fair share from you above his wages!!
  11. snooz you loose sucker
  12. There are different levels of NMW,*depending on your age and whether you are an apprentice. The current rates (from 1 October 2011) are: £6.08*-*the main rate for workers aged 21 and over* £4.98 - the 18-20 rate £3.68*- the 16-17 rate for workers above school leaving age but under 18 £2.60 - the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship If you are of compulsory school age you are not entitled to the NMW. Some of your other employment rights are also different. From direct gov site, as the guy has 5 years experience I would gues he was at least 21! Saying that I started working when I was 12!!
  13. Not sure about that one buddy!!! Il do some research but I'm sure minimum wage kicks in from leaving school(16)
  14. I'm sure that's below minimum wage?? Are you calculating that rate by what gets paid into you're bank? congratulations on getting a job tho mate!!
  15. But........ I really liked my plumber scenario!
  16. Hi mat, If you have all of this apple gear then you have everything you need, I'm not sure how or what program's you use but this is how I do things (it may be what you are already doing) Step 1: phone rings- open note pad, take details Step 2: cut from note pad and arrange date/ time with customer, and past appointment into iCal Step 3: quote job and fill spec into the notes section in iCal Step 4: say good bye and smile Step 5: customer rings up 6 months later "hi its mrs smith, remember me" Step 6: " yes of course I do mrs smith how are you(frantically searching for her quote in iCal) " yes I quoted you £15 to fell your 2feet high conifer!!!" Step 7 book into next available slot and pick which team to send from type of calendar Step 8: complete job, copy and past details into pages and e mail invoice Then add details onto a spread sheet (numbers) this way you can track when invoice is due.. I depend on my iPad and actually have 2 and 2 iPhones they are all synced and all teams have one, this is just a fraction of uses I have found for it and I am happy to share. Just ring (not tonight tho as I'm pissed!) 07825046597
  17. I think my plumber scenario was better
  18. I think they are asking us for "advise" and our "opinion" if you honestly feel like they are making the wrong choice and there is a valid reason for this then the correct and honest response should be to say "I don't think you should fell the tree because....." if I was to ask a plumber to replace my boiler because it made a funny noise or I just felt it was about time to be replaced then I wouldn't expect them to go along with my choice and replace it, I would expect them to be honest and tell me that it doesn't need replacing it just needs a service..... What I'm saying is some people simply do not know how old there tree is, or how rare it is, or how much others value it, or even that there are other options such as crown reduction!! so what's wrong with passing on our opinion and then if it's not taken then carry on and do the job in the knowledge that you have done you're bit???
  19. Lol never mind, by posting it again it made the pic bigger!
  20. What does it say I can't make out the last bit???
  21. I see both pints to, but I've got to admit I once reported an intention to fell a 200ish year old copper beech, it was in a front garden in the centre of a beautiful village, sand it was a beauty of a tree. the property was owned and built by the parents of the client, they have passed on and left him the house, I know this because I did previous work for them. The son moved into the house and was getting himself a new range rover sport to park on the drive "next to the tree" so guess what the tree had to go!!! I quoted for the job (tried to talk him out of it) but the quote was accepted, It didn't feel right so I informed the council that in three weeks I will be removing the tree, and If they want to slap a TPO on it then do it ASAP!! I heard nothing back so the tree was felled... I could have walked away from it but why let others benifit? if it had to be done then I'm happy to do it and I feel good about it because I feel I tried to do the wright thing???? others may not agree but I went with what I felt was the right thing to do!
  22. Groundsman only=£7.50 inexperienced climber=£8:75 experienced climber=£10 team leader=£11.25 +the odd cash bonus now and then Love to pay the guys more and as the business grows maybe I will be able to but by my calculations this Is what I can afford without running the business into the ground!! Cheers Rich
  23. Steph, this is a very interesting post..... Please can I have the details of the solicitor??? Happy ending for you then? Good on ya. Did the guys you purchased from try to get it lifted and if so what was there reasons and situation? Also at what percentage below the market value did you pay? Feel free to tell me to mind my own business if you wish!
