  1. Ok Thanks again for you're feedback, So I think the answer is to get a copy of the Agricultural Occupancy condition and find out what I can and can't do and then find out what there definition of forestry is. Right the next battle on my hands and changing the subject slightly but does anybody have any experience in using the business as a joint mortgage partner??? I would imagine if I was to per chase a house with this condition then it would be expected to be a commercial sale, so does this come with any benefits (less deposit needed, lower rates) or negatives (mega high interest rates)??
  2. Thanks allot for you're response. This may be opening a can of warms but do we as tree surgeons officially come under the forest industry? Im going to get more info from the agent but I'm pretty sure forestry use is allowed!!
  3. Hi Guys, I have been doing a bit of research into buying a property which is under a Agricultural Occupancy condition. I am no expert in this field and I am struggling to get any straight answers by searching on-line so thought I would start this thread to see if anybody has delt or looked into this before. My situation is this: I have a small tree surgery firm based in Bristol I employ 3 men inc myself and we currently rent yard space in a local farm, My dream scenario would be to by a property to live and run the business from, I have came across a fantastic looking house with just about enough land to run our business from and I am wondering if our trade "tree surgery" will comply with the Agricultural Occupancy condition? also as this property has this condition I am assuming that there are no problems with running our business in terms of noise pollution and everything els that us noisy and messy arb guys get up to in the yard (storing chip and logs etc...) I am suspecting that there may be a clause as the business is not "farming a crop" on the land so I was wondering if I was to begin growing/farming a crop of Christmas trees would this qualify?? any thoughts/advise would be greatly appreciated and may benefit allot of other guys on here thinking of taking advantage of the perks of our trade!! Many thanks in advance Rich

I priced up using sleepers and rsj's but it was very expensive, im now thinking buying in a load of metal sheeting and fence posts. Not as robust but allot cheaper and the sheeting left over I will make a log shelter with :001_smile: How are you going about loading? Or do you have the kit for that? Cheers rich

    Wood Chip

This makes it sound a bit more appealing. Do you know the inns and out of the inspection and criteria? Does there have to be drainage, what if the chip is full of "conifer crap" is this acceptable, does the chip need to be at a low moisture content? Cheers rich

Is it worth all the hastle and cost of setting up bays, concrete base, loading and so on? I really want to start selling the stuf as it will make our lives allot easyer but I just cant justify the expence for the return! Or am I missing something? How do you go about the process? Cheers Rich
  9. sorry the start of that didn't make muh sense. I meant I sold the old one when I got the new one!!
  10. when I got my new truck I sold it and at the time was happy I made the right choice but looking back I slightly regret it as if I had kept hold if it for a year then I would now have a use for it as work has picked up. also I did consider giving it a spray and new graphics and just use it as a advertising board by parking it in busy areas!!!
  11. I am in the process of having a 110 hicap converted with this company, so I can't yet comment on the end result but so far the communication and advice from mark has been top notch and I'm confident i will still be smiling at the end of the month when I hand over all my hard earned cash and pick it up!!!
  12. Have a watch of this on i player mate its got some imteresting info on this topic: BBC Four - After Life: The Strange Science of Decay Speak soon rich
  13. I just cut the ring to 4" and drilled a hole right throgh the centre and then used a sharp axe to plane dowm the base of the tree to a point and weded it in "jobs a goodun" :-)
  14. I had an idea of cutting up a truck load of rings (coni logs) and taking them to a christmass tree dealer to use as stands in exchange for a few trees. I didnt end up doing it as the garden centre gave me one for free for a few loads of chip but it mite be worth a try!
  15. surely if your neighbour has gone out of his way to pay for a tree report then he is excepting liability/ownership of the tree!!
  16. I thought areal resque would be part of the level 2? Im on a level 4 at the mo and there are guys ther who have next to no working experience. I think its great and shows commitment to the trade and the want to learn.
  17. No I dont think so, The customer was watching as it happened and even wrote us a statement to send to the landlord explaining what little force was put on the wall to make it full, I wasnt on site when it happened but the lads rang me as soon as it did and I came around straight away and spoke to all of the effected neighbours even tho one of them did become very rude but I think she was just shocked! You are right tho its just the way things work out some times (wrong place wrong time) and I paid the price. Its just the attitude of people that got me going, I wasn't trying to hide from the fact that we had done some damage but they where trying to throw all sorts of rubbish accusation at us such as "trespassing" and "did we assess the stability of the wall before we started work" thats all good in hindsight but I usually take it for granted that if a wall is left standing then it is safe enough to do so. To many people are out to play the blame game and screw each other over as much as possible. Ive got to admit tho I do pay allot more attention to near by structures when quoting jobs now!!!
  18. I did consider this as an option and if the wall was 4 feet high then its what I would have done, but in this case it would seriously have put the tenants at risk (altho no more so then they originally where) but now I actually feel good that 1: the case is closed but 2: i really think it would have gone at any time and if it wasn't for us pushing the thing over it would have been the tenants kid kicking his ball against it!
  19. Finally we have a result, I got a quotation from a local builder to repair the damage that we caused and nothing more, it came in at £400! now my excess for insurance is £500 and it would have effected my premiums for next year so I figured this was the best option. I sent them a check with the quotation and 2 months later they have cashed it. Case closed and lessen learnt. Thanks for all you're replies guys Rich
  20. OMG this dude has just declared war on the intire arb industry hahaha I cant wait for this thread to pan out!!
  21. This is what I did and its amazing how much employers tend to take notice of youre job aps when you say you have just left the army, even tho I had no experience I walked into a job with ease. I dont think the army is the answer for everyone and also believe it or not its actually prety hard to get in at the mo as they are at full capasity, however the point im making is employers dont always look for what tickets you have as these can be perchased but proof of hard working ability, self motavation, and the drive to get things done is something that can not be perchases and is a priceless skill!!
  22. Im a tree surgeon in bristol, I have just stated to split and store logs for seasoning ready to sell by the m3 next year (prices to be confirmed) I do not want to start selling until I am happy that my logs are well seasoned. if you do not get any luck this year I will be happy to help you out for next years logs. Many thanks Richard 07825046597 Tree Arborist and Tree Surgeon Bristol
  23. What are the repercussions of being caught by vosa without the correct documents/licences??
  24. I take it your doing the level 4 with tree life then? Im on the course at westinburt and I also struggled with that one, I found the trees but hcouldn't get the info on reasons why they are better or worse!! Any ideas? I think I put it down to something to do with wall 1 blocking xzylem and phloem!!
