  1. If there was a like button like fb then i wkuld apply it hear. Well said mate
  2. I think its just the attraction to working outdoors and using powerful equipment and the danger thing.. This trade is very similar to the forces in a strange way only the Taliban is replaced with a 70ft leylandii lol..
  3. Take the advise and go self employed mate, it costs you nothing and the tax return is easy, just get someone who is good with numbers to sit down one night with you and sort it out. This time of year there isn't allot of work around so when people say "il get back to you when it picks up" there not just fobbing you off, but if you where self employed ure not making them make any commitments so they will be comfortable in giving you the odd day hear and there. I left the army 3 years ago and this is how i did things and it worked. In my opinion being ex army makes up for the lack of experience. I know its daunting after having clarks do all you're paperwork for you but its really not that bad. If you where in south west i would help you out.
  4. Did you find that this had a big impact on winning jobs by adding vat? Im thinking positive about it but ive lost jobs before because the other guy has quoted £10 less!! As much as i hate to admit it i think the days of customers paying extra for a professional service are coming to an end!! "in most cases"
  5. Ive just changed accountant to a company recommended to me to be hot on VAT so il let you know what feed back i get in the next few days. I have briefly looked into the flat rate but to be honest i don't fully understand it so im gonna leave it down to the guys who get paid a fortune for this sort of stuff! Also the new accountant has advised that i look into going LTD as this can have some great tax relief benefits!! Im only a small company so all this sounds a bit daunting to me but im just gonna go with it and hope for the best lol "thats worked for me so far "
  6. Jim from riko contacted me today with a some great info and advise. Thanks allot.
  7. God i hope ure wrong, that was the only bonus i could see of going vat reg!!
  8. Speak to your accountant, im in the process of going registered and im pretty sure i will be able to claim back 3 years worth of vat for kit i have purchased! So no need to register early as you may be able to claim it all back at a later date when your turnover is at the threshold. Also think about the extra paper work and accountancy fees!
  9. Thanks for the reply jim i look forward to hearing from you. i understand that you may be under pressure but you must understand that i am also under pressure to get this equipment sorted as i have a potential deal that i need to make and will not be in a position to make it until i have arranged all of the machinery. I unfortunately do not have the luxury of having my weekends to myself as my business is in its early stages and the only way to keep up with the current competition is to eat, sleep, and breath work, to just keep above water. All i ask is a bit of communication and i would be happy to wait. Many thanks Rich
  10. Yeh your right but its just a shame as looking at what most other people have to say about them they have built up a great reputation for them selves so why throw that away by such a simple thing like customer communication!! Got my splitter now and so far seems great. Now looking into alternative trailers.
  11. I wish i could say the same about this company, I have been trying to contact them and have found that there customer service is disgusting. I have took the time to send 2 separate E-mails explaining what i was after (log splitter and timber trailer with grab) And waited a week and had no reply. I then made a call to them and spoke to "the technical engineer" who took all my details and promised to get a quotation to me asap. That was over a week ago and still no reply!! I have money waiting to give to them and they just don't seem to want it!! Looks like im going to have to look els where. Ow and one more thing. Before posting this i sent a personal message on here to the riko rep and gues what? He replied but only to say that he no longer works for riko lol! And this guy was moor helpful then anybody i have spoken to so far. I think it was Chris Shepard by the way. I dont like slagging off companies but i think there are to many out there that just dont give a damn about customer care and they should be named and shamed!
