  1. Also chris, try speaking to Ashcroft transmissions. they are landy specialist and design and build some of there own units to suit different demands. They might be able to help you. Ashcroft Transmissions
  2. Landrover gearboxes are always going to suffer when loaded right up all the time. They are great all round when doing a bit of heavy towing and a bit of everything else but when you start doing heavy stuff all the time then they just never seem to be man enough to put up with the strain. Shame really cos it lets the rest of the vehicle down.
  3. Cant do next week im afraid but could do other times maybe if you needed. Pete
  4. Hi, Anybody had any experience of using these machines? Not seen them before really but fairly curious about them and keeping an open mind. They look like they might be ok on price too but thats just me making a random assumption. Discuss.
  5. I had one from a guy claiming to represent the emergency services mag. Usual scam. They almost had me and try to say weeks later that I had verbally committed but backed right off when I said I had trading standards on to them, th epolice investigating them for impersonating a police officer and sent them a letter as if it were worded by a barrister. All of a sudden they call to say sorry for the misunderstanding and they're sorry to lose my custom blah blah blah. Just scammers trying it on on got scared when they thought I was about to screw them dry.
  6. I use dewalt framers gloves from screwfix. They have loads of good features but not thorn proof. Only thing that is thorn proof are welding gloves.
  7. Hi Pal, I got nothing permenant but would have some odd days if it was any help. I am down in winchester, hants. Pete

  10. Whats the worst that can happen? You run out of money and have to get a job in tescos. even some of their jobs pay enough to get by. I was in the same scenario till 3 weeks ago. spent the last 10 years day dreaming and wondering at whilst at work wondering what it would be like to be free. Then BOOM! Just do it! Had so much private work that I did grass cutting till the sun went down. So i did a big push on here asking for freelance work here and there and combined it with my own work. Now I still dont have enough time to keep up with everything.

  15. Good advice thanks. This is what was concerning me. The big guys will have their own kit so i can count them out of the equation. Machine wise im quite impressed with the hakki carry 25. Going to show tmw. I cant get the idea out of my head that the machine is a bloody good setup but the business man in me needs to some how justify its purchase. There must be a market for it otherwise they would never sell any but its obviously a fairly niche, tucked away market that im going to have to search for.
  16. Hi Guys, Looking for opinions and trying to get a feel for this one so let me know what you think. Have some cords of my own to process but not much really. Was toying with the idea of buying a road tow processor and offering myself for hire with my machine to ppl around the country who perhaps needed a bit doing. My main concern was that I really dont know whether there is any call for this cos if theres not then it just aint worth me buying a machine. Let us know your thoughts.
  17. Will cost a fair bit at a dealer. its an easy job in itself just a little time consuming cos of all the stuff you got to take off to get at them. can do them in a day. Also dont buy "genuine" bearings as they are made by the same manufacturers just have timberwolfs mark up on. i got my bearings from ebay for a fraction of the cost. go for namede brand bearings such as nkn, timken etc and you'll be fine. my dealer told me if i didnt have genuine bearings they wouild break up in no time. rubbish! same bearing different name, he just wanted my money. unluckily for him i used to be a precision engineer so i knew what i was on about
  18. Thats a good outfit u got there. Your facebook page says your in andover. Will you travel to winchester for wood and also what sort of stuff are you after so i can bear you in mind. hard wood? soft wood? diameters?
  19. That might be an option. Do you have any contact details?
  20. Are there any ppl in Hampshire or the surrounding area that would be able to provide fairly regular sub work? Maybe 2-3 days a week either grounding or climbing? Have my own complete outfit in terms of van, chipper, saws, clmbing/lowering kit, ppe, insurance etc. Trying to break out from being imprisoned in my day job but not quite enough of my own to keep the family supported. Am 28, been in the game since 2001. Takes pride in work. Very competent in rigging and eyeing in reductions. Safe worker. Based in Winchester but will travel. If anybody has any suggestions then im up for listening. Can either pm me here. Call me on 07789644322 or email me at [email protected]. Cheers Pete
  21. I come from an aircraft manufacturing background where 9001 and 14001 amongst others are common place. I dont see how these standards could be implemented to any great degree. h+s, qualifications and safety procedure along with training progression. As for customer base then I dont think these standards are applicable to the domestic client as it is more corperations that look for it but to be honest not many of them truly know the ins and outs of it. A lot of bullshit that they are told "its a good thing" by there boss and told to look for it in companies. Maybe pursue it if you were really trying for big local authority contracts etc
  22. Im a CNC turner/precision engineer. Make anything out of any material down to microns inside. Big money, safe bit of a head **** sometimes but sooooo boring. Make stuff for boeing, lockheed, MOD etc. Wish I never left tree work. never get bored with that. Got enough work to do weekends and evenings but just cant seem to get enought together to go full time. Frustrates me so bad as i hate workin for other ppl. Like running the show myself.
  23. I also agree with this totally but on the politeness note, if I offer a job for ppl and they do contact me, I reply to everyone even if by that point i do have someone sorted just to let them know that they have been acknowledged and will bear them in mind next time. Really winds me up why I have responded to job requests only to hear nothing and left wondering "wtf is going on, is this bloke interested or not". Little rant over but I do still agree with the pm contacting thing originally stated. Politeness by both parties is essential i think
