  2. we had exactly the same happen this year at the college i was doing my RFS course at, i cant remember what are tutor said it was he showed us though just like this oak failed all roots shot no signs of decay. ill have to ring up my mate who was on the course aswell see if he can remember. scary stuff though just imagine walking up to that and thinking nice strong oak to climb today!
  3. you get what you pay for with camaras i say, but like i said the gopro is worth a look at a good price.
  4. makes such a difference not ringing stuff up. the pov1.5 or the pov 1 are both great also id look at the gopro i wouldnt go for the drift or drift HD though there to big and bulky with rubbish battarys.
  5. i charged £1800 for that tree then he wanted two more 30ft pops out at same time so i rounded it up to £2000. as far as i no he didnt have any more quotes. i looked at another job recently dead horsechestnut i wayed up how much it would cost for me with a crane or me spending a couple more days and alot more work and the crane worked out £200 more expensive. but ive told my self im not doing big trees without cranes now. unless no access because its just not worth the wear and tear on you and your workers bodys lifting big rings etc. the helmet cam is a Vio POV 1.5 hope this helps
  6. thanks, its far from perfectly done, and far from the fastest we could have done it some of the lifts were nowhere near what we could have lifted but its all in the learning curve better to take off to small than to big
  7. i have bought a camcorder just for filming from the ground, just need a decent job to film alot, ive got a big ash dismantle soon over 3 gardens nd garage so that might just do it. they have all gone for firewood im affraid , i wouldnt have thought poplar is any good for carving?
  8. it was a 25ton crane and at that outreach it changed from 1ton to 2 ton and up to 3 ton in places that he could lift. im rubbish with weights but that last peice of stem weighed in at about 2 1/2 ton the peice before it was about 1ton theres 3 1/2 ton on the last 2 bits so the whole tree must have been about 15tons i would imagine, if you got a 1000 ton crane in it has been known for people to lift complete trees out in a oner but you have to think is there space to lay it on the floor
  9. they were all just pre tensioned to much why they popped off suddenly.
  10. yer just ratchet strap around it but not tight tight.
  11. he told me to have a couple ratchet straps around it but not really tight, and if it still cracking bad to screw or glue a board to the underside of it.
  12. the ring i have has been drying in my shed since this job and there is only 1 largish crack appearing but hopefully should be able to make something out of it. will be a hell of a heavy table though!
  13. cheers for the positive feedback guys, still awaiting regs feedback which im looking forward to even though i no theres alot of improvement needed, ive quoted for 4 more crane jobs since this and hopefully will be some more vids soon
  14. more hedging today for me, would say it was nice but it was hawthorn and bramble with added ivy so wasnt nicest, but still couple hours work £20 tip and minute down road for a ice cream at the coast
  15. just have a sling chokered off with a crab clip a single line to your harness and thro the crab on the chokered sling and have a gri gri or ID at the base. if you have a acident the groundsman can lower you straight down from the floor instantly
  16. yer the grass was at waist height in places my lawn mower isnt up to that kinda stuff esspecially since i cut it when it was wet but ill go back in couple days and do it nicely now its short enough
  17. had this nice job today made a change to be doing a nice bit of hedging and lighter work for a change. i got call from lady who owns this cottage as a holiday home, obviously never gets down there and was a right mess. i got asked to fell the silver birch and a yew tree and to just tidy up. so basically left to do what i thought. need to go back and cut the grass again but other than that im happy with it such a big difference. anyways some pics that sum up my day.
  18. ive had today off to, had to work yesterday for a job on busy pedestrian shopping street so sundays most shops closed had take down big euc and i had 4 clippo ice creams yesterday ended up with really bad cramp half way through the day. i think i prefer the heat to rain
  19. i had my next door neighbour and a gardener start cutting his hedge next to my house at 5am on a monday morning, lucky for me ive just picked up a job next to his house other side and thats a holiday home so i can start that at same time for his pleasure.
