hi guys call by a client to finnish of somebodies handy work from the weekend. nothing much left of the structure of the 'tree' so no overall pics sorry but what do you recon this is? some sort of Viburnum? grew as a single stem tree rather than a shrub (stem 12 inch across), clusters of flwers at the appropriate time of year. couldnt see any berries in amongst the remains. alternate, deep green leaves, buds at base of redish petioles:001_huh:
  4. sounds like a good idea - i know a guy in my area has started a venture- jamesw. perhaps you could contact him? bear in mind tho (if you havent already) - if it does take off. its hard enough fitting work, quotes and a social/ family life in, and stump grinding isnt always a restfull affair for your rest days. access is sometimes a problem - have you got somebody to help if you need it? not trying to be negative just a few thoughts to get the thread going for you.
  5. had a look at the rc 100 from coppards - looks a good price - what is the finnished effect like? suitable for replanting straight away?
  6. some builders etc leave a placcard out after having done work at a premises for a week or so - might be an idea- what are the legalities of sticking a banner above your local busy raod on a foot bridge?
  7. shame, those air burners look V impressive in the promo info.... think i like the idea of having a go with the mulcher over a flail - though will get a few prices. thanks CTS will give green mech a shout.
  8. ta james, :thumbup1:had thought of a flail but wasnt sure if it would cope with the hidden timber? the areas pretty flat. bit muddy here and there - but where isnt. £300 is that including opperator - guessing their pretty simple to run any how. any one in south wales got one out for hire?
  9. Hi guys been offered a project, part felling part clearing an area of failed crop that has been taken over by, mainly, bramble head height and the area of 2 football fields in order to replant with mixed broadleaf. any ideas what the most cost effective (and quick) way to deal with bramble city? been thinking of a ground mulcher - as lots of fallen dead timber in amongst it all which also need getting rid. any ideas guys ta:confused1:
  10. thanks Steve, was wondering who you worked for steve (i remember at one point you were looking for work). Dean
  11. btw, tracked 12-14m articulate prefered
  12. I know there a few guys on here from the southwales area on AT- any one got a mewp for hire or know of anyone who does? want to avoid HSS etc if i can as ive found them unreliable in the past. Ta
  13. Same goes with me (i use trust for the same reasons), but will do a bit more shopping around next year. dont think they are the cheapest but provide a good service
  14. Hi.... IMO recutting to repollard isnt realy an option as its only going to compound the problems now found, and the onset of bleeding canker may be its death nell anyways. Unfortunately removal and replacement may be the best option long term. a compromise??: reduce to sound wood in order to retain the tree in some form - asuming that the client is now educated of the problems the tree faces and is likely to manage it in the future? looks from the pic that its close to targets so some mediation needs to take place. my tuppence
  15. sorry my fungi ID isnt great but thought i'd throw in a suggestion: early oyster fungus?
  16. hi again guys have a potential client who requires 2 tomographs (neath area) anyone out there who can offer their services to me for this and other jobs in the future. need a rougth price guide to put into the quote.
  17. i'd second peter's comment - that it seems to be forming reaction wood, and as its leaning away from targets the risk could be mediated rather than removed altogether. on the other hand if the client wont accept this opinion then suggest a removal and replant to keep the continuity of the row.
  18. Hi i've recently bought a 110 with a "linktip" body.. though it was already on there it is very well made and of stronger constuction than ive seen on a lot of cabstars etc.

    stumps

have used the sp4012 on hire, great machine and good for access (width wise) but poor turning circle which can hamper it.
  20. thanks guys, :thumbup:may have been led down the garden path without that info. dont think i'll break my neck to get in with them, maybe use it to fill the diary at best.
  21. wow. :scared1:what action was taken with those? fell or habitat stump perhaps?
  22. price seems to be a key factor with the fc then, by the sounds of it:sneaky2: has anyone found that standard of work to important to them?
  23. interesting: guess they use the rate given as a bench mark thanks buzz, something to keep in mind. think i'll give them our standard rates then, suck it and see.
  24. thanks gibbon, hope you dont think its too personal a qeustion:blushing:...... how much is that? I'm charging around 350 a day (for a 2 man team but depending on skill level required) how do you think that stacks up competitively speaking?
  25. thanks for replying so quickly gibbon. and thanks for the info the work i'm looking at seems to be a small scale localised thing - rather than a contract out to tender - where they call us in, as and when, spreading the work around a group of contractors depending on locality and work spec. had a meeting with the guy involved today - we just have to meet their criteria -which looks fairly standard and go from there. have to give a day rate as an example and although i know what that is for domestic work - i havent got any experience with the FC:001_unsure:
