  2. Was in the woods today hunting for things with my little boy (he's only 4) for things for his school "autumn things find" and he suddenly got all excited and started shouting "daddy come over here"...? now considering i've never really taken him fung hunting before because its usually when i get a spare 5 mins at work, and i've only ever shown him the photos i've took i was surprised when i did go over to his calls only to be greeted by him shouting "FUUUUUUUNNNNGUUUUUUUUSSSSSS....!!!!"

  4. for the past 20 months i've had the oregon ones that to be honest have lasted but they were never that comfy to start off with and a bit big and cumbersome for climbing in hence why they aren't on the list and i would like to try something different.

  7. Ok i'm in the market for a new pair of boots as my sole fell off on friday... i've been looking through the forums for all peoples opinions on different boots, the pro's, the con's, the prices etc. But i can't seem to find one definitive post dedicated to the boot! So as there has been a recent poll on chainsaw pants i thought i'd make one on the boot. At the moment i'm torn between the Klima air tirol's, meindl airstreams and the Haix Airpower Gold but unsure on which to choose? All comments and opinions are greatly appreciated:thumbup:

  11. just found this How to Figure Tree Weight | eHow.com
  12. Has anyone ever thought of calculating tree weights? As in how heavy the tree actually is..! Also specifically, the breaksown of those weights into catagories for example; total green weight, dry weight, weight of carbon in the tree and the amount of carbon dioxide sequestered by the tree? I ask because a friend of mine (works in IT) has recently been trying to work on "green" project for his company wherein its been his job to calculate how much carbon dioxide each specific tree takes in that they plant. This is then corallated against the amount of CO2 used to make and sell a new PC, a kind of balance type thing (i think). It got me thinking into is there a method/formula/algorithm that enables a specific tree to be "weighed" and analysed for CO2 input and O2 output? I guess it would also be interesting to know how heavy any particular tree was and how accurately the weight could be measured when a lot of the tree is actually underground... (the roots) We also had a conversation today about how much "weight" a tree is theorised to put on in a year and then broke it down into weeks and days.. so for example if we were to prune a large tree by 20-30% and it was a bit of an awkward job and took 2 days, by the end of the two days how much weights had the tree actually put back on.? Anyone else ever thought along these lines or is it really only just me??
  13. found this nice little website from a guy who takes loads of fungi pics, some are really really good! The Fungi of Southern England
